“Hey, what’s wrong? Talk to me! Who hurt you?” Nathan asked his little sister, Kamsi, as he picked her up from school.

Other kids were happily hopping onto the school bus, but Nathan still struggled to pay her school fees and could not afford to pay for bus fare. So, Kamsi walked home everyday.

“There’s this girl in my class. She.. she laughed at my shoes and dress because they are worn out. Everyone in the class joined her and they called me an orphan.. even my teacher laughed at me!” Kamsi said between sobs.

Immediately, Nathan charged up and the only thought that entered his head was to hit the teacher and all the other students on their faces to teach them a lesson!

But he simply tightened his grip on Kamsi’s hands. He couldn’t afford to get into a fight with anyone. Once he gets locked in prison, there is no way he would be getting out.

He was alone in this big world and the only money that danced in his account was $2,050 for himself and Kamsi.

“I’ll get you new shoes and clothes soon, Kamsi. Ignore them. They are suckers!” Nathan reassured her as they walked down the busy street with expensive cars driving past them, a reminder of just how poor they are.

Getting to their tiny 1 room apartment on the end of the road, Nathan quickly took a cold bath and wore his poor clothes. He was getting late for his evening classes. He couldn’t afford to miss yet another class. His part time jobs strained him. The good thing was that he was an intelligent soul and would always catch up with lectures.

The poor boy was smart. He knew he could not afford to stay in the dormitory and he could not afford to keep paying for cab rides everyday. So, he rented a tiny apartment very close to the university where he paid $400 monthly.

Thanks to Amanda, his girlfriend of 2 years, he didn’t bother much about spending on a woman. $300 was all she requested for every week. Well, Nathan only wished she was a bit more grateful, considering the fact that he was not a rich dude in any way.

But he never complained. Who else would want to date a broke church rat like him? He was even fortunate, to say the least. Amanda was a pretty damsel. Though she warned Nathan never to address her as his girlfriend on campus, he was okay with it.

She was just so amazing.

Arriving at school, Nathan was welcomed with a scene unfolding a few metres away from his eyes. Many students were gathered outside just beside the student parking centre.

He couldn’t figure what was going on, but he knew it was big. Everyone was screaming happily.

As he began walking to the scene curiously, a hand quickly grabbed him and pulled him back! It was Marcus and Neil, his buddies.

“Hey pals, what’s going on over there?” Nathan asked, pointing to the crowd behind him. “Did the Maths lecturer die?” He chuckled.

Marcus looked at Neil and frowned before looking back at Nathan. “Hey man. Let’s just get to class. You wouldn’t want to see that!”

Nathan became suspicious. They weren’t smiling like oysters like they usually do when they saw him. They both had stiff faces like something bad was happening.

“I don’t understand! I wanna see what’s happening!” Nathan pulled himself from Neil’s grip and began walking towards the crowd.

“Nate come on! Let’s go! You won’t like..” but Marcus’ voice faded into the background noise.

Nathan struggled to find his way through the crowd when he started hearing everyone screaming ‘Amanda!’

‘Amanda!’

‘Amanda!’

Nathan was confused. But his confusion was finally drowned when he saw everything clearly.

His eyes bulged out as soon as he saw Amanda, his girlfriend, covering her face and smiling childishly as another guy slid a ring into her finger.

This guy was David. One of the richest guys in the whole campus. Almost everyone feared and respected him. His father was a millionaire and girls craved to be with him.

But what was more confusing to Nathan was the backdrop. Behind David and Amanda was a black car that looked brand new.

Did David buy the car for her? Because Dave had his own car which he bought just 2 months ago! Could it be that he bought it for Amanda?

Sitting on the car were two guys holding the sign that read:

‘Will you be my girlfriend, Amanda?’

Nathan’s heart leapt out of his chest. He felt his heart wrenching out when he saw Amanda allow David to put the ring on her finger. He felt tears escaping his eyes.

Did Amanda, his girlfriend of 2 years just…

But his tears and sobs were drowned by the crowd that were now cheering..

“Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!”

That was when Nathan rose to his feet and began walking towards David and Amanda! He was going to end this nonsense. Right here and right now!

Nathan walked angrily, but no one took notice. Just when Dave was about to place his lips on Amanda’s, Nathan fiercely pushed Dave to the ground. The whole crowd went ‘oooo’. See, Nathan was far from popular in Luxton university as a matter of fact, he was the least famous person in the school. It wouldn’t be out of place to say ‘No one knew him’, but it would not be true, because that will not be correct. A few months back, Nathan was walking into the lecture hall when a rat suddenly jumped out of his worn out backpack and scurried off! Everyone burst into heavy fists of laughter. They laughed like it was their last day on earth. The embarrassment was clearly spelt on the poor boys face. So, yes, Nathan was known by a few people as a church rat, literally. He wondered what his little sister would have to go through because they were poor. They had always been poor and that was the only thing he knew about their past. Luxton wasn’t just for him. If it weren’t for the NECA

The ride to the police station felt long and excruciating. It was like a drive to the end of the world. It was now clear to Nathan. Amanda was gone for good. She had abandoned him and there were no more doubts. The tears from his eyes were cold. He had always known that he was an orphan and that he and his sister were alone in this wild world. But today, it became clearer to him. Today, it became more evident that he was indeed alone and there was no one he could call family. He began to regret his life. Why is he even alive? He is just a waste of space as Sueco said. If he dies today, nothing would happen. No one will cry. Not a single soul, except his darling little sister. Soon, the police car pulled over and they alighted from the vehicle. The officers held him like he was some sort of hardened criminal. He was taken to the interrogation room where was asked a few questions. “Sir, I would never hurt anyone. He started the fight. He’s a bully and I hate him! I was onl

The drive to the unknown was a long and silent one. Nathan held his sister’s hand firmly. He wasn’t going to let anything happen to her. If this man were speaking the truth, he was going to find out today! Kamsi on the other hand felt more comfortable. She just kept smiling and admiring the car features. Not her fault. She was just a little poor girl who barely ever got the chance to enter any car. Nathan as well began to feel more comfortable. Someone older and richer than him was addressing him as Young Master? That was an expensive title. One moment, he entertained a painful heartbreak from Amanda. The other, he was in prison thinking about how to end his life. “What are these papers for?” Nathan asked the lawyer who was seated perfectly on the chair on the other side of the desk as he scanned the series of documents in his hand. “Well, sir, your father. Mr. Daniel Reed, owned many companies. He ranked 4th on the list of world billionaires before he died, though he decided to remain anonymous.” “These companies included NECA, the art-tech company worth over $190 Billion, LetFod; the automobile company worth over $680 Billion, Brymid; the hospital chain worth over $300 billion, and numerous other ventures spanning various industries," the lawyer explained, his voice carrying the weight of the immense wealth and responsibility being passed on to Nathan. “Hold on. Did you say NECA?” Nathan asked calmly. He remembered that NECA was the company who sponsored his scholarship examination into Luxton University. He also knew LetFord. In business class, they always used it as an example for top automobile companies in the world, even competing

Papa Sam had promised to take her to amusement parks of her choice anytime she wanted. She was now rich and would be able to get everything she had always dreamed of having. This sight made Nathan happy. In fact, the bed he slept on felt like an automatic massager. It was just so comfy. The AC made his sleep smooth. But his happiness was short-lived. Marcus had called him the night before to remind him of the schoo

This calmed Nathan down a bit. “But for minor purchases, young master, you can simply use the funds in your bank. A transfer of $1,000,000,000 has been sent to your account. Vivian shrugged. "He left me no choice." Lightning split the sky. The revelation, though not entirely surprising, still hit Anita like a dagger to the heart. "You’re a monster," Anita whispered. Vivian chuckled, finally stepping back. "And you? You’re still my daughter. No matter how much you run, my blood runs in your veins. You can’t escape it." A heavy silence fell between them, only broken by Rachael’s continued sobs in the background. Enrique sighed impatiently, dragging Rachael up by the arm. "Enough of this drama. We have a flight to catch." But before he could move another step, Anita pulled something from her coat pocket and aimed it at him. A gun. The entire family went still. Vivian’s smirk widened. "Oh, Anita… What exactly do you think you’re going to do with that?" Anita’s hands trembled, but her grip on the gun was firm. "I think it’s time to end this nightmare." Vivian scoffed with a hint of approval etched into her soft smirk. “Impressive. You have learnt ho

"Let her go." They all froze. Enrique’s grip loosened, and Rachael slumped to the ground, her tear-streaked face turning toward the source. Standing there, soaked to the bone and holding an umbrella that had been battered by the wind, was Anita. Her sister. The one who had walked away from the family’s toxicity years ago. The one who had vowed never to return.Anita’s gaze was cold, her voice steady despite the chaos around them. "I said, ‘Let her go now!’” Anita screamed. The family was stunned, Vivian looking at her sons in awe and then looking at her run-away daughter. How and why was she here? It no longer mattered. The family was now complete and

And then she saw them: Enrique, Donald, and her mother, Vivian, standing in the doorway. Enrique’s hand was extended, a gun smoking in his trembling grip. Her head throbbed, not just from the shock of the gunshot, but from a deeper, more primal fear. Her gaze locked on her brother, the smoking gun, the raw terror in his eyes, and a wave of nausea washed over her. What had he done? And suddenly, she looked outside and… yes. Her nightmare came true. The man her heart was bleeding for, just a few seconds ago was lying there under the rain. Yes, Gerald was… motionless. He was gone. Rachael’s breath caught in her throat as her mind raced to piece together what had just happened. The raindrops blurred her vision, but she didn’t need clarity to see the dark crimson pooling around Gerald's body, mixing with the water and disappearing into the cracks of the pavement. London had been no refuge; it only deepened the fractures within the family. Vivian sat in the salon, her nails being shaped and polished to perfection in preparation for the journey. The rhythmic hum of drills and the smell of acetone barely registered as she scrolled through her phone, her mind lost in other thoughts. Enrique, on the other hand, was in his room, alone. His phone was in one hand, the other resting near an empty bottle of lotion and a pile of used tissues. His indulgent habits were a well-kept family secret, and he wasn’t planning to break that routine anytime soon. Donald and his wife, Sar

But this time, he saw what felt like 12 men, all armed with muscles, some with knives, daggers, and even batons. They all turned around, keeping mute and allowing the air to get tense.
