CHAPTER 3

The ride to the police station felt long and excruciating. It was like a drive to the end of the world.

It was now clear to Nathan. Amanda was gone for good. She had abandoned him and there were no more doubts.

The tears from his eyes were cold.

He had always known that he was an orphan and that he and his sister were alone in this wild world. But today, it became clearer to him. Today, it became more evident that he was indeed alone and there was no one he could call family.

He began to regret his life. Why is he even alive? He is just a waste of space as Sueco said. If he dies today, nothing would happen. No one will cry. Not a single soul, except his darling little sister.

Soon, the police car pulled over and they alighted from the vehicle. The officers held him like he was some sort of hardened criminal.

He was taken to the interrogation room where was asked a few questions.

“Sir, I would never hurt anyone. He started the fight. He’s a bully and I hate him! I was only defending myself!” Nathan defended.

“This video doesn’t say so, young man! This is a charge of violence and attempted murder!” The officer played the video of Nathan mercilessly punching Dave on his face. The video must have gone viral judging from how many students recorded and must have posted it online.

This calmed Nathan down. But he smiled, knowing that he was stronger than that motherfucker.

“Please, sir. Let me just go home to my sister. I’m the only one she has in this world and she is sick. We have nobody and I can’t afford to stay here!” Nathan began to plead.

He was wise. Engaging in argument with an officer will only worsen the situation.

The officer sighed and excused himself from the room. He seemed to have felt empathy towards Nathan and was willing to help him get out freely. Maybe he was once in the young man’s shoes.

But upon his return, the officer frowned. There was nothing he could do to help Nathan.

“To clear your crimes, you’d need to bail yourself out with $7,000 or you’ll spend the next few days here in jail. I’m sorry kid. I did everything I could!”

A few moments later, Nathan found himself locked up in the old, stinking cell. He was shedding tears like a baby, but he tried to remain strong. Strong for his sister. They wouldn’t even allow him talk to his sister over the phone.

Fuck!

Nathan just sat there feeling hopeless and hungry and heartbroken! At this point, death would have been the only way to escape all this suffering. But that would be selfish for Kamsi.

So, will he be stuck here for the next 4 days? 5 days? In prison?

As those questions echoed in his mind, he began to slowly drift off to sleep, closing his eyelids to see what nightmare he would see this time.

Suddenly, he heard a loud bang on his prison door. He quickly woke up. The cell guard was opening his cell.

“Young man, you are free! You were bailed out!” The guard said and opened the door for him to move out.

Nathan didn’t understand. He was shocked. Someone bailed him out? Was it Marcus and Neil? His friends?

He quickly dashed out and went straight to the officer who interrogated him. The officer told him that someone called earlier and after confirming that it was really Nathan Reed, the man bailed him out with the $7,000, but he remained anonymous.

“He requested you wait for him on Norway street just a few blocks away!” The officer said.

Nathan tried to comprehend what was going on. Who would just bail him out? He had no parents, uncles or aunts. No extended relatives. Yet someone was kind enough to..

Quickly, Nathan left the station and walked into the night to Norway steet. It was already 8:37pm. He was going to kneel down and thank this person with all his heart before returning home to his sister who must have been worried by now.

As soon as Nathan got to the cold, lonely street looking tattered like a criminal, he found a spot to sit down and wait. He was tired and confused.

He raised his head up to the sky to count the stars. Something he did when returning from school with Amanda. He truly missed her. She messed up his heart. What a fool he was to think that a broke boy like him would–

Suddenly, his vision was momentarily blurred by the very bright lights coming from the cars that were driving towards him. 3 cars.

The 3 cars stopped right in front of him. Nathan knew very little about cars, but he watched FF9 and he saw exactly the same cars right in front of his eyes. They didn’t look cheap, like something even Dave could not afford. They looked very expensive.

He did recognize one of them to be a Bugatti Chiron.

Suddenly, a well dressed man opened the door of the car in the middle and stepped out. He was dressed elegantly. He wore a black suit and white shirt. He wasn’t exactly an old man, but he looked mature, like someone who could give birth to Nathan.

His hair was properly cut and curly. The strands of white hair was still visible in the dark.

Nathan swallowed saliva as he tried to comprehend what was going on. Was this the man the person who saved him? Who was he?

The man walked over to him and his cold rich voice spilled into the air. “Nathan Reed?”

Nathan nodded.

Suddenly, like a miracle, the man prostrated himself and bowed down to Nathan. “I am Frederick, sir!”

Nathan quickly stopped him by grabbing his shoulder and quickly pulled him back up.

Instead, Nathan then knelt down and thanked the man for bailing him out.

But the man shouted “Stop it please, Young Master! Do you want to get me in trouble?”

‘Young Master?’ Nathan asked. Is this some kind of joke or prank by Dave to humiliate him? Everything unfolded like the stories he read online where an average boy like himself suddenly becomes a billionaire! Is this it?

“I know you are confused young master, and there’s a lot of explaination to do, but please, just get into the car, sir. Grand Master would be overly exited to see you! We finally found you after 8 years!” The man said with a smile of satisfaction and offered to walk Nathan to the car.

“No! I am not going in there. I know this is all a prank and maybe, just maybe you are here to kidnap me! Look, I have nothing. I am just a poor boy with no family and…”

Nathan’s words were suddenly interrupted by a little girl that was smiling and waving at him from inside one of the expensive cars. She looked comfortable and unharmed.

It was Kamsi, his sister!
