The ride to the police station felt long and excruciating. It was like a drive to the end of the world.
It was now clear to Nathan. Amanda was gone for good. She had abandoned him and there were no more doubts. The tears from his eyes were cold. He had always known that he was an orphan and that he and his sister were alone in this wild world. But today, it became clearer to him. Today, it became more evident that he was indeed alone and there was no one he could call family. He began to regret his life. Why is he even alive? He is just a waste of space as Sueco said. If he dies today, nothing would happen. No one will cry. Not a single soul, except his darling little sister. Soon, the police car pulled over and they alighted from the vehicle. The officers held him like he was some sort of hardened criminal. He was taken to the interrogation room where was asked a few questions. “Sir, I would never hurt anyone. He started the fight. He’s a bully and I hate him! I was only defending myself!” Nathan defended. “This video doesn’t say so, young man! This is a charge of violence and attempted murder!” The officer played the video of Nathan mercilessly punching Dave on his face. The video must have gone viral judging from how many students recorded and must have posted it online. This calmed Nathan down. But he smiled, knowing that he was stronger than that motherfucker. “Please, sir. Let me just go home to my sister. I’m the only one she has in this world and she is sick. We have nobody and I can’t afford to stay here!” Nathan began to plead. He was wise. Engaging in argument with an officer will only worsen the situation. The officer sighed and excused himself from the room. He seemed to have felt empathy towards Nathan and was willing to help him get out freely. Maybe he was once in the young man’s shoes. But upon his return, the officer frowned. There was nothing he could do to help Nathan. “To clear your crimes, you’d need to bail yourself out with $7,000 or you’ll spend the next few days here in jail. I’m sorry kid. I did everything I could!” A few moments later, Nathan found himself locked up in the old, stinking cell. He was shedding tears like a baby, but he tried to remain strong. Strong for his sister. They wouldn’t even allow him talk to his sister over the phone. Fuck! Nathan just sat there feeling hopeless and hungry and heartbroken! At this point, death would have been the only way to escape all this suffering. But that would be selfish for Kamsi. So, will he be stuck here for the next 4 days? 5 days? In prison? As those questions echoed in his mind, he began to slowly drift off to sleep, closing his eyelids to see what nightmare he would see this time. Suddenly, he heard a loud bang on his prison door. He quickly woke up. The cell guard was opening his cell. “Young man, you are free! You were bailed out!” The guard said and opened the door for him to move out. Nathan didn’t understand. He was shocked. Someone bailed him out? Was it Marcus and Neil? His friends? He quickly dashed out and went straight to the officer who interrogated him. The officer told him that someone called earlier and after confirming that it was really Nathan Reed, the man bailed him out with the $7,000, but he remained anonymous. “He requested you wait for him on Norway street just a few blocks away!” The officer said. Nathan tried to comprehend what was going on. Who would just bail him out? He had no parents, uncles or aunts. No extended relatives. Yet someone was kind enough to.. Quickly, Nathan left the station and walked into the night to Norway steet. It was already 8:37pm. He was going to kneel down and thank this person with all his heart before returning home to his sister who must have been worried by now. As soon as Nathan got to the cold, lonely street looking tattered like a criminal, he found a spot to sit down and wait. He was tired and confused. He raised his head up to the sky to count the stars. Something he did when returning from school with Amanda. He truly missed her. She messed up his heart. What a fool he was to think that a broke boy like him would– Suddenly, his vision was momentarily blurred by the very bright lights coming from the cars that were driving towards him. 3 cars. The 3 cars stopped right in front of him. Nathan knew very little about cars, but he watched FF9 and he saw exactly the same cars right in front of his eyes. They didn’t look cheap, like something even Dave could not afford. They looked very expensive. He did recognize one of them to be a Bugatti Chiron. Suddenly, a well dressed man opened the door of the car in the middle and stepped out. He was dressed elegantly. He wore a black suit and white shirt. He wasn’t exactly an old man, but he looked mature, like someone who could give birth to Nathan. His hair was properly cut and curly. The strands of white hair was still visible in the dark. Nathan swallowed saliva as he tried to comprehend what was going on. Was this the man the person who saved him? Who was he? The man walked over to him and his cold rich voice spilled into the air. “Nathan Reed?” Nathan nodded. Suddenly, like a miracle, the man prostrated himself and bowed down to Nathan. “I am Frederick, sir!” Nathan quickly stopped him by grabbing his shoulder and quickly pulled him back up. Instead, Nathan then knelt down and thanked the man for bailing him out. But the man shouted “Stop it please, Young Master! Do you want to get me in trouble?” ‘Young Master?’ Nathan asked. Is this some kind of joke or prank by Dave to humiliate him? Everything unfolded like the stories he read online where an average boy like himself suddenly becomes a billionaire! Is this it? “I know you are confused young master, and there’s a lot of explaination to do, but please, just get into the car, sir. Grand Master would be overly exited to see you! We finally found you after 8 years!” The man said with a smile of satisfaction and offered to walk Nathan to the car. “No! I am not going in there. I know this is all a prank and maybe, just maybe you are here to kidnap me! Look, I have nothing. I am just a poor boy with no family and…” Nathan’s words were suddenly interrupted by a little girl that was smiling and waving at him from inside one of the expensive cars. She looked comfortable and unharmed. It was Kamsi, his sister! The drive to the unknown was a long and silent one. Nathan held his sister’s hand firmly. He wasn’t going to let anything happen to her. If this man were speaking the truth, he was going to find out today! Kamsi on the other hand felt more comfortable. She just kept smiling and admiring the car features. Not her fault. She was just a little poor girl who barely ever got the chance to enter any car. Nathan as well began to feel more comfortable. Someone older and richer than him was addressing him as Young Master? That was an expensive title. One moment, he entertained a painful heartbreak from Amanda. The other, he was in prison thinking about how to end his life. And now, here he was in a super expensive car going to meet someone who had been waiting for him for years. He wondered what will unfold, what will happen. He only hoped it would be good! He have had enough bad news in his life. He needed good news at this time. Finally, after a 1 hour and 30 minutes drive, the ca
The walls of the interior was breathtaking! Nathan kept scanning through the wonders of the art and architecture. There was always a sight to behold on every corner and on evey wall. But he was eager to meet this person who would just give the order to bail him out of prison and who has been waiting for him for years now. It was going to be an absurd story he couldn’t wait to hear. Or could it be his dad? Nathan had no single idea where he came from. All he knew was that he grew up in an orphanage. As to who took him and his sister there and how the whole situation unfolded, he never asked and was never told. So he sub-consciously kept things that way! He just stuck to the belief that his parents must have been dead a long long time ago! After walking inside the billion dollar house for a while, Fred, Nathan and a security guard came to a big hefty door. The door looked ancient, but it was rich. There were chunks of gold that sparkled, reflecting aura and wealth. “It’s time
“What are these papers for?” Nathan asked the lawyer who was seated perfectly on the chair on the other side of the desk as he scanned the series of documents in his hand. “Well, sir, your father. Mr. Daniel Reed, owned many companies. He ranked 4th on the list of world billionaires before he died, though he decided to remain anonymous.” “These companies included NECA, the art-tech company worth over $190 Billion, LetFod; the automobile company worth over $680 Billion, Brymid; the hospital chain worth over $300 billion, and numerous other ventures spanning various industries," the lawyer explained, his voice carrying the weight of the immense wealth and responsibility being passed on to Nathan. “Hold on. Did you say NECA?” Nathan asked calmly. He remembered that NECA was the company who sponsored his scholarship examination into Luxton University. He also knew LetFord. In business class, they always used it as an example for top automobile companies in the world, even competing
Mornings in the opulent Reeds’ mansion were usually quiet and boring. Especially Monday mornings like today. Only lawn caretakers, security guards and other service workers could be seen walking around the building. But it was different today. Kamsi was seen playing with Papa Sam on the playground close to the huge garden. Kamsi was the happiest she’d ever be. She was getting better and stronger. Papa Sam had promised to take her to amusement parks of her choice anytime she wanted. She was now rich and would be able to get everything she had always dreamed of having. This sight made Nathan happy. In fact, the bed he slept on felt like an automatic massager. It was just so comfy. The AC made his sleep smooth. He also found out that he had Alexa in his room and so he decided to sleep with a soft R&B by Billie Eilish to remember fragments of memories from his life with Amanda. But his happiness was short-lived. Marcus had called him the night before to remind him of the schoo
“He’s a loser and a brokie, sir! He shouldn’t even be allowed in this college!” Dave shouted. After a series of tough questioning, Mr. Donald finally let Nathan go. Being a smart kid, he was able to answer all of the professors' questions. This made Dave heat up, but Nathan didn’t care. He was feeling on top of the world. At this point, he could literally buy the whole of Luxton university and it wouldn’t cost him anything. From time to time, he would exchange glances with Amanda. He honestly loved her and he had always thought she felt the same. They never kissed, not even once. But Nathan was okay with it. The thought of just having one of the campus beauties as his girlfriend was more than enough for him. But he learned in a painful way that she was just a gold digger who would follow any man with money. If only she had stayed with him, her life would have been better. He shut his eyes in slight pain for Amanda and disgust for Dave. He was going to make sure they paid
Nathan pulled out his iPhone and called Fred immediately. “I was embarrassed in public today. Is this a joke? What is going on?” Nathan started. He couldn’t shake off the feeling knowing that now, everyone would be right about him. He was just a broke kid. But Fred’s response was shocking. “Sir, you are aware that the card in your possession is an exclusive card. This means that the card cannot be used just anywhere. Being an exclusive card, it can only be used in luxurious places like restaurants, hotels and shopping malls!” Fred explained to him everything in detail. This calmed Nathan down a bit. “But for minor purchases, young master, you can simply use the funds in your bank. A transfer of $1,000,000,000 has been sent to your account. In places where you cannot use your exclusive debit card, you can always switch!” Nathan began to walk out of the school with so much confidence and determination. He was secure. Whatever had happened today was a positive thing. It show
To everyone’s absolute surprise, Nathan pulled out a black card and swiped his card in the machine, waiting to hear the beep sound. Nathan slowly began to entertain fear. He remembered what happened to him just hours ago. He was publicly embarrassed after he couldn’t make a single donation. If this doesn’t work out too, then it would be the.. “Transaction successful!” The lady on the counter said scarily. Her hands shook as she held the VIP card and handed it over to Nathan. She gulped in saliva countless times. Many things might have been running through her mind. She must have wondered how a young man like Nathan could be this rich! Why would he spend $1,000,000 on a membership card? Why he looked tattered and wasn’t dressed up as the billionaire he was. She wasn’t the only one who felt that way. Other people in the restaurant began whispering about it. They couldn’t believe that the person whom they were irritated with just purchased a Gold card. It was insane and surreal
“Wait, you know him?” Nathan asked surprisingly. Selene quickly lowered her head and bit her lips. “You broke up with me to date this poor rat? Do you even know who he is? He’s an orphan and a brokie. He has no penny and he’s a nobody! I’m fucking sure he has been lying to you just as he lied that he wanted to donate back in school! He’s just a brokie!” Nathan was disappointed, sad and mad. He didn’t know what to feel especially seeing that his ex-girlfriend, Amanda joined in the insult. Turning to Selene, he asked the question. “You know him?” He asked her calmly. “Shut the fuck up and leave this place! You don’t belong here. Look at your clothes and shoes! I don’t even know who let you in here!” Dave roared. Selene's eyes darted nervously between Nathan and Dave, clearly uncomfortable with the sudden tension. She shifted uneasily on her feet, unsure of how to handle the situation. Nathan's expression hardened, his disappointment palpable as he processed Amanda's presen
