Borrowed Luxury

The wedding was going on smoothly, Liana seemed happy but her countenance was unreadable. Her husband stood beside her as they addressed the congregation. Everyone cheered and they were happy for the newlyweds.

Chris stood by the doorway, darkness surrounding him as he walked further to stand amidst the congregation. Liana's gaze locked with his, sending shivers down his spine but Chris was not bothered as he watched the woman he had loved dearly get married in his presence and she had no shame and also invited him to her wedding with his shamelessly attended.

Both of them lack shame.

Chris was dressed in a black tailored suit alongside black shoes that one could easilp see their reflection on. He stood tall amidst the crowd as no one was able to recognize him but his eyes met with the colleagues who mocked and cursed him after his father died leaving him his debt to pay.

He smirked at the sight of the happy couple but he knew something was off with Liana. The latter was faking a smile here and there but he didn't want to crown himself as the reason. Maybe she was just nervous or anxious since it's normal because she's getting married.

But why will she be anxious and nervous when she's getting married to the man of her dreams, a billionaire? That was something that troubled the mind of Chris.

When the official toast was over. Everyone engaged in dancing as they cheered the couples who led the floor.

Richard took Liana's hand as he led her to the center of the dancing floor. With a smile on his face, he held her waist gently while she wrapped her hands around his neck as they danced to the tune of the slow song.

"I love you, Liana. Thanks for accepting to marry me." Richard smiled.

Liana's face flushed crimson as she nodded knowingly, returning his smiles. "It's my pleasure. I love you too, Richard."

Both of their lips sealed in a devouring kiss making Chris adjust his gaze away from them, trying his best to to tear up. Everything was just too much for him to handle and he didn't know why his grandfather would force him to attend this wedding when he knew fully well that he was going to be cursed and humiliated.

When the dance was over, Liana excused herself since it was everyone's turn to dance. Richard approved of her excuse and started chatting and drinking his his best man.

Liana spotted Chris trying to get some drink for himself and stopped his actions right away making the latter's eyes twitch as he gave her a questioning look.

"What's that for?" He asked, trying not to raise his voice at her.

"Are you pained?" She chuckled, examining his outfit and well-polished shoes.

Chris scoffed, "Pained? Why should I be?" He asked, pushing her hand as he helped himself with a glass of wine.

Liana's jaws dropped but that didn't give her enough reason to stop with her humiliation. "Where did you borrow this expensive suit and shoe from? You don't even look appealing even with the borrowed luxury." He chuckled.

Chris paid a deaf ear to her words. It was her wedding day and he didn't want her to make a scene that would draw the attention of their colleague.

No way! He wouldn't be able to handle that.

"Would you stop ignoring me? Are you that pained to the extent your mouth ran out of words?" She said yelling, her hands clutching onto her gown as she furiously glared at him.

"I didn't have anything to say to you. You probably didn't invite me here to insult me. It's your big day." Chris spoke calmly as he took a quick sip from the wine.

Liana groaned as he angrily slapped his hand making the wine spill on his inner white sleeve and the glass fell on the floor, drawing the attention of the people that were behind and beside them.

"You'll forever remain a pauper and as you can see my life will always remain luxurious even after marriage." She laughed evilly, causing everyone's attention on her.

Chris was stiff, he continuously gazed at his stained sleeve. Thinking about how expensive it was and the trouble it had cost his grandfather to get it for him. He was more concerned about the expensive cloth that was stained with wine than the insult Liana was throwing at him.

One of their colleagues recognized Chris and stepped forward. "You have no shame but to appear at Liana's wedding. Aren't you tired of being humiliated? You stink of poverty." She spat.

Liana laughed without revealing to the others that she was the one who personally invited Chris to her wedding.

Chris remained calm as he had faced this several times.

He turned to leave but Liana blocked his way. "Don't you dare ignore me? You are caused. How are you going to work on the damages caused by you on your borrowed outfit?"

"He can probably wash it off, he's jobless after all." A colleague said as everyone engaged in a peak of hilarious laughter.

Chris was surrounded. He turned around slowly and saw everyone laughing at him. His shoulders dropped as he wished he could disappear from this place or still the ground should open up to swallow him.

Richard, however, saw the bunch of crowds and how everyone deviated from dancing to surrounding someone that he didn't quite get a clear picture of.

"I'll go check what's going on." He said to his best man as he dropped his glass of wine before leaving.

When he walked towards the crowd, his gaze met Chris making him startled as he brought his phone out, exchanging glances with Chris and the photo of his phone.

"What the heck?! This can't be!" Richard muttered under his breath, confusion etched on his face as he stood frozen, his gaze locked on his phone with his hands trembling.
