Her Wedding

Chris was in his late father's house when he received a call from an unknown number.

The latter was sitting on the old and only couch in the sitting room, with his legs crossed as he gazed up to the ceiling, resting his back on the couch, a lot of thoughts ran through his head, unanswered questions that had failed to be answered. The call jolted him back to reality as he took his small cell phone, frowning at the unknown ID.

Chris knew now wasn't the time to play funny games or joke with anyone. He declined the call and dropped the phone beside him but seconds later, the call came again, from the same person.

With a sigh, Chris reluctantly answered the call, not making a sound as a familiar voice resounded in his ears.

"Son, don't know what day it is?"

"Huh?"

Chris's eyes widened in shock as he remembered this voice belonged to his grandfather whom he met at the cemetery where his father was buried. And by what day is it, what did he mean?

"Grand... grandfather, I didn't know the caller was you," Chris said immediately.

"Don't worry about that, Christopher. It's two days now and I remember you encountering a lady at the cemetery." The man's voice resounded over the phone, as Chris's eyes widened in awe, making him sit at the edge of the couch. "Don't ask me where I got this information from. Just stand up and follow my every lead."

Chris was stunned speechless, he didn't know what came into that old man's head or was he drunk. He double-checked the caller ID to make sure the call hadn't diverted to a drunk person. Either way, Chris stood up and followed the directions given to him by the old man.

The old man's direction led Chris outside his father's old incomplete house. Chris examined everywhere but he didn't see anything worthy or extravagant outside the house that was covered with bushes.

"Something's at your doorstep." Came the old man's voice.

Chris's eyes moved down as he lowered his gaze to the ground where his eyes caught up with a package that was tightly sealed. He was hesitant before taking the package and going back to the sitting room where he placed it beside him on the couch.

"Get ready for the wedding. Like I said, those who mocked and humiliated you will go on their knees before you." The old man reassured him, his voice firm and filled with certainty.

Chris didn't get a chance to thank his grandfather because the old man hung up immediately after he finished saying his words of reassurance. With a sigh, Chris dropped his phone, recalling the day he met Liana at the cemetery.

"What? In two days? Her wedding must be today then!" Chris gasps in realization. He didn't know why he was overwhelmed by it as he immediately felt uneasy.

His eyes met with the sealed package as he took it and placed it on his thighs, examining the four corners of it before aggressively bursting it open with his fist.

"What the...?"

Meanwhile, Liana's wedding was going on smoothly in a large ballroom that glittered the extravagant interior decor. The air was filled with laughter and music as everyone in the ballroom danced to the tune of the song that was being played by the dee jay.

The couples, however, were still preparing to make themselves known to the congregation as they were in a room, getting dressed separately by their stylist.

Liana clasps her sweaty palms as she is nervous and anxious about her wedding. Her mother who was standing beside her while the stylist worked on Liana's hair, leaned closer as she placed her warm hands on her daughter's sweaty palm.

"It's your wedding day, Liana. You made the right decision of dumping that looser immediately during your graduation and now you are married to the most eligible bachelor in the city. Isn't that dream come true?" Her mother said with a smile on her face, creasing her eyes and making the wrinkles beside her eyes visible.

Liana looked up to her mother and adjusted her gaze back to her palm. She didn't know if she did the right thing by dumping Chris as his conscience started playing several tricks on her making her feel uneasy and regretting her decision.

She tried to take her mother's words to heart but it didn't settle with her. Not too long ago, the laughter of her friends disrupted the tense air.

Liana turned around and found her colleagues running forward the her with their faces brightened up with a smile as they approached her, congratulating her on her wedding day.

"Congratulations, Liana." They said in unison.

One of them brought out a phone and showed Liana a video. Liana's eyes shook immediately she watched the video that trended on the net when she dumped and cursed Chris in the presence of everyone.

She grabbed the phone from the person and ran to the comment section, thinking that she'd get a negative response to all that I'd watched the video on the net but thankfully all came out well as she handed the phone back.

For some reason, she started processing her mother's words in her head and she cursed herself inwardly for regretting why she ever dumped Chris. That son of a debtor.

Her colleagues cheered her up, while her soon-to-be husband kept on smiling while his suit was being done by his stylist. He couldn't help but smile, seeing Liana happily chatting with her friends with a bouquet in her hand. She was finally going to be his forever after a long time of their secret relationship.

"It seems you're in a really good mood." His best man noticed his sudden change of countenance and couldn't help but remark.

"Who wouldn't be in a good mood on their wedding day?" Richard chuckled.

"I just hope, things don't get screwed up."

Before they left the room. An announcement was made that the bride and the groom needed to make entrance to the reception hall.

Liana intertwined her fingers with Richard as they made their way to the reception hall. She kept a straight face as she didn't want anything to get screwed on her wedding but something kept sending shivers down her spine and goosebumps on her skin. She turned around to see who just made entrance to her wedding only for her to lock her gaze with her doom.
