Chris's eyes widened in awe as he saw the woman in his arms was no other person than Liana. He immediately let go of her as she regained her posture and stood back on her feet with a mockery gaze tinted on her face.
"Surprised aren't you?" Liana smiled at him, slapping him across his shoulders and Chris was quick to dust it off. He adjusted his gaze from her as all the humiliations he had faced in the graduation ceremony flashed in his head. He rolled his eyes as he threw shades at the smiley woman standing before him.Seeing that he didn't respond to her question, Liana proceeded with the talking. "About what happened at the ceremony, it's supposed to happen and you can't blame me for not being faithful, blame yourself for being poor." She said a scowling look on her face as she kissed her teeth.Chris just stood still, his eyes twitching at her statement. Was it supposed to happen?Chris was dumbfounded. He didn't know what to do but to walk past her as he unknowingly stepped on a bouquet that was on the ground."You've ruined my flowers." She yelled. She ran over to him and picked up the flowers from the ground.Chris wondered what the latter was trying to do and what she was doing around this secluded area."Too bad you're too poor to even afford one to place on your father's grave." Liana laughed as she handed over the ruined bouquet to Chris who subconsciously accepted it. "I know you can't afford one as it'll affect your daily expenses and besides I received your award in your place.""What? How could you?" Chris was forced to retort."If only you were there to receive it." She folded her arms across her full chest with a smug look on her face as she kissed her teeth. "Tsk, tsk.""Liana, what do you want?" Chris still holding onto the flowers as he was tired of her continuous drama. Wasn't cheating on him enough?"I followed you here." She informed, letting out a sigh."Why? You stalking me?"Liana burst into a peak of hilarious laughter. "Me? Stalk you? Who the hell do you think you are." She asked as she continued with her laughter.Chris rolled his eyes as his jaws dropped. He wasn't expecting her to laugh at his questions as he was being serious. He tried to walk away but she stood him in his tracks."You don't leave while I'm not done." She instructed.Chris's grip tightened on the flower as he clenched his fist, undermining the fact that he couldn't do anything at the moment."Liana, you're wasting my time. I need to go make some applications." Chris interjected but his words fell on deafening ears."You poor thing!" She dug her hand into her inner pocket brought out a card and hit it on Chris's chest. "That's my boyfriend's card or should I say, my fiance. Let me help your poor life.""Didn't ask for it." Chris retorted as he was about to return the card to her but she bluntly refused, still claiming that she wanted to help his life. For some reason, Chris wanted to bring out his grandfather's card and show it to her but now wasn't the time."My fiance is the head of the Evans Group HR and you can drop by with your applications to apply for a job if you're deemed fit at least you can invest with your brain."Her words made him realize that she indeed stayed with him all through high school and college because of his intellectual skills and how he had been helping her with her school projects and homework. Chris silently regretted all of that and wished he had never met such a horrible human."Is that all?""No, that's not all." Again, she dug her hand inside her pocket and brought out a sealed envelope. She unsealed it and handed it over to Chris.Chris ran his eyes on the envelope and saw Liana's name boldly written on it and that of her fiance the head of the Evans Group HR."You're getting married?" Chris's eyes widened in shock. For some reason, the latter was surprised as this was too sudden. It hadn't been up to two days and barely a day before they broke up and now she was giving him her wedding card. What a life! Life happens to be cruel to Chris as the latter didn't know what he did to deserve such cruel treatment.Liana nodded her head in response. "I'll be getting married in two days and I just want to inform you, that's the sole reason for me following you here and yes, I stalked you after the graduation ceremony."Unbelievable!Chris threw the bouquet, his hands trembling as he gazed hard at the wedding card. He didn't know why he was pained but everything was uncalled for."I guess, I have no business with you until my wedding day. Be there and watch me slayyy." She winked at him before turning him back to leave.Chris watched her as she disappeared from his sight. The woman he had spent almost all the years of his life with just invited him to her wedding. He had dreamt of her walking down the aisle and how they'd exchange their vows at the altar but not anymore as that was just a dream since she was going to do that with another man. His hands trembled as he held onto the wedding card, a tear dropped from his eyes and fell on the card.He couldn't believe how cruel and heartless Liana could be to the extent she had the guts to invite him to her wedding to watch her slay.Chris thought about asking his grandfather for help as he didn't know if he'd attend the wedding or not but one thing was sure Liana would regret ever leaving him.Chris was in his late father's house when he received a call from an unknown number. The latter was sitting on the old and only couch in the sitting room, with his legs crossed as he gazed up to the ceiling, resting his back on the couch, a lot of thoughts ran through his head, unanswered questions that had failed to be answered. The call jolted him back to reality as he took his small cell phone, frowning at the unknown ID.Chris knew now wasn't the time to play funny games or joke with anyone. He declined the call and dropped the phone beside him but seconds later, the call came again, from the same person. With a sigh, Chris reluctantly answered the call, not making a sound as a familiar voice resounded in his ears."Son, don't know what day it is?" "Huh?" Chris's eyes widened in shock as he remembered this voice belonged to his grandfather whom he met at the cemetery where his father was buried. And by what day is it, what did he mean?"Grand... grandfather, I didn't know the c
The wedding was going on smoothly, Liana seemed happy but her countenance was unreadable. Her husband stood beside her as they addressed the congregation. Everyone cheered and they were happy for the newlyweds.Chris stood by the doorway, darkness surrounding him as he walked further to stand amidst the congregation. Liana's gaze locked with his, sending shivers down his spine but Chris was not bothered as he watched the woman he had loved dearly get married in his presence and she had no shame and also invited him to her wedding with his shamelessly attended. Both of them lack shame.Chris was dressed in a black tailored suit alongside black shoes that one could easilp see their reflection on. He stood tall amidst the crowd as no one was able to recognize him but his eyes met with the colleagues who mocked and cursed him after his father died leaving him his debt to pay.He smirked at the sight of the happy couple but he knew something was off with Liana. The latter was faking a smil
Richard saw the commotion going on. He found his newly wedded wife beside the man who shared a resemblance with the man in the photo. He saw how his wife was pointing fingers at him and laughing. The others weren't exempted even the people who didn't know him before joined in the laughter. This made Richard shudder even more."How am I going to handle this?" He asked rubbing his temple in frustration as he started biting his fingernails. Richard gazed at his phone one more time, seeing the photo and the man who was being humiliated made him go weak on his knees. "What should I do now? Liana is a deep trouble."His best man, Larry, saw Richard's shaking figure from afar. He knew things weren't going well with the latter as he approached him making Richard startled."Gosh, you startled me," Richard said in shock."What's the matter? Why are the seats empty? Your mother-in-law and the others are waiting for you and your bride in the room." Larry informed. He focused his gaze on the congr
"You can't humiliate my boss in my presence." Were the words that came out of Richard's mouth leaving Liana completely dumbfounded. "What? Your boss?" Liana asked in disbelief.Chris stood there frozen, he tried to mask his confusion with a smirk on his face as he was the one to mock Liana with a mockery smile on his face. Liana almost lost it as she tried to make her husband get up but he pushed her away for the second time."I'm so sorry, sir. I didn't recognize you on the day of the graduation ceremony. Please accept my apology, boss." Richard bowed.Everyone gasped.Liana's mother came out of the room after waiting patiently for the bride and the groom and they didn't show up, she decided to come get them herself."What's going on here?" She asked, angry etched in her face.Liana went to meet her mother, her hands trembling and her legs threatened to cut off. Her movements weren't stable until her mother helped her posture."Mother, can you see what Richard is doing? He's bowing
Days passed and Chris didn't hear from either his grandfather or his ex-girlfriend including her husband. He remembered vividly what happened on the day of her wedding when his secret identity was revealed. While listening to some calm songs, he swiveled the wine glass in his hand and had a sip when his doorbell rang.Chris tiredly stood up from his seat, dropping the wine glass on the small stool in front of him. He thought of moving to his grandfather's mansion but he decided to give it some time as he was displeased with staying in this small house when he had a great identity. He opened the door, only to find a package on the ground. "Did grandfather send another luxurious suit? What's the occasion now?" Chris rolled his eyes as he took the package, placing it on the floor beside him as he continued sipping from the wine glass while sitting on the couch. While thinking about what happened during the wedding, he couldn't help but smile to himself. "So that's what the old man meant
Before Liana hung up, she urged Chris to open the package she sent but Chris was reluctant. He didn't narrate to her what transpired between him and Richard as he was in a hurry to hang up.He dropped his phone on the ground, heaving a sigh as his eyes met with the package. Chris stood up and walked to where he kept the package, the package looked suspicious so he had to stand his ground and he took it and placed it on the stool, beads of sweat formed on his head as his hands shook while he was trying to open it."Hope it's something good." He muttered inwardly. With his eyes closed, Chris opened that package, but immediately he was about to get a glance at its content, the buzzing sound of his phone disrupted his motive. The caller id was unknown but when he answered the phone, his grandfather's voice resounded in his ears."Christopher, you need to move out of that house." The old man's voice was loud and firm.Chris face palmed himself as he sighed in frustration. "Why the rush, s
A deep frown settled on Chris's face when he turned around and found Liana behind him, panting as her attempts on trying to hijack him failed. The latter had a black mask on, trying to conceal her identity."What the fuck? Are you okay? You keep stalking me." Chris yelled, raising his hand."Do you want to hit me? Go ahead and do it." Liana said, removing the face mask she had. "You didn't read the letter I wrote to you, did you?"Chris leaned on the wall, the frown on his face still intact, he folded his arms as he threw shades at her, his gaze not leaving hers. "What letter?""I sent you a package. You didn't even open it even when I called you to." Liana said disappointment etched on her voice."Hmm." Chris pinched the bridge of his nose. He didn't want to spend so much time with her as he knew his grandfather's men were waiting for him. He brought out his phone checking the time. "Do you have anything to say? Make it snappy."Liana clenched her fist beside her. What was he trying
The drive to the Chairman's mansion was long and tiring. Chris unknowingly slept off on one of the men sitting beside his shoulder. He was woken up by the buzzing sound of a ringing phone."I'm sorry to disturb your slumber. The chairman wants to speak with you." The man sitting opposite him said as he handed over the phone to Chris.Chris cleared his throat and wiped the saliva that was at the corner of his mouth with the back of his palm. The man sitting beside him used a handkerchief to wipe the little sweat and saliva from Chris off his shoulder but Chris wasn't aware of his actions. The Chairman's voice resounded in his ears, everyone seated was silent and the car stopped moving. "My very own grandson, how's the ride?" Came the chairman's voice."It's a boring one but I'm good," Chris said, shifting his gaze to the window. His grandfather laughed over the phone. "I like you for your honesty. My men aren't the type to engage in conversations but rest assured they're good people."
