Thick And Thin

"Liana, what's going on?" Chris asked with a shaky voice. He tried to speak further because he was more than confused and was betrayed by his voice.

The others had their camera on, Liana gestured to her lover, the son of the wealthiest man in college, to come closer and he did.

She held his necktie motioned him to lean closer and sealed his lips in a short kiss that startled everyone in the hall and Chris was exempted.

This was all happening in his presence. Liana is kissing another man in his presence. Chris's knees weakend as he wished for the ground to open up and swallow him as he didn't deserve the cruel treatment he was receiving.

"Everyone, listen. This man standing beside me is my fiance. We've been seeing each other for the past two years and Chris is not even an option." Liana declared to her colleagues.

Gasps and whispers filled the air. Her announcement broke Chris to the core. The latter was stunned speechless. He didn't know what to do, he didn't know how to react to what was unfolding before him.

"Liana, this isn't happening. You weren't faithful to me after all." Chris said, his voice shaky.

This same woman was the only person he had thought about his future with and he didn't know she was seeing someone else behind his back.

"Chris, we feel sorry for you. This is the biggest mockery of your life." A girl's voice resounded in his ears from the crowd.

It was indeed the biggest mockery of his life. This was shame and disgrace at the doorstep.

"Liana, this can't be. We've been through thick and thin. You can just leave me now." Chris stepped forward and grabbed Liana by her arm but she reluctantly pushed him away, making the latter stagger backward and hit his back on the wooden door behind him.

Chris kissed his teeth in frustration. This was the highest peak of betrayal, not when they were graduating from college.

"We've been through only thin together. You aren't thick, your pocket isn't thick. Nothing about you is thick." Liana yelled, her voice etched with betrayal and annoyance.

Her lover tried to calm her down from behind was she was too annoyed to face him right now.

Tears threatened to fall from Chris's eyes but he had to be as strong as the man that he was. He didn't want to be moved at again because crying in front of Liana would be an invitation for more mockery.

For all these years, Liana had a secret relationship with Mark, leaving Chris in the shadows.

All these were too much for Chris to bear as he thought about the good old days they had shared. When he helped her with her assignment, and her school project, and how eager she was to learn from him. But she just made it clear that she was only with him because of his academic intelligence.

Chris stared at the duo in front of him with a broken heart.

Before the Dean could address the graduating students, Chris walked out of the hall. His graduation was of no use anymore. He had to also stop his part-time job as Liana was the reason why he had to work part-time in the first place. Now that his father was dead and held a big debt, he had to pursue his father's business.

His colleagues' eyes followed in unison as Chris walked out of the door. Liana adjusted her gaze away from the door as she held Richard's hand in hand before taking the front seat as they were being addressed by the Dean.

Chris's name was mentioned as one of the best-graduating students under scholarship but because of his absence, the Dean had to pass the award on to someone else and that person was no other than Liana because of her relationship with Chris that the Dean was fully aware of.

While the graduation ceremony was going on, the graduating students uploaded the video of Chris and Liana to the internet where Chris was made jest of.

"Hmm...not man enough."

"This video just made my day, LMFAO."

"Jeez, that was uncalled for."

"The girl's new lover is a big shot."

The comments were all there to make fun of Chris who was currently at his father's grave, weeping, lamenting as he let out all the tears he held in the hall.

He was devastated and heartbroken. His heartbeat accelerated in an abnormal rhythm as he held onto his father's tablet, his tears soaking it.

"Dad, why would you leave me alone to suffer in this world and also pay your debts? You should have at least paid them before you die. How am I going to cope? Aren't you being unfair?" Chris lamented, sobbing, his shoulders trembling. "Mom was kicked out of her father's house because she got married to you. We all got tied in your shit and now mom is also in six feet. You both left me all alone to suffer." Chris wailed.

He fell back on the ground, sitting on top of the small grasses on the ground as he hugged himself, his graduation suit stained with his tears and the sweat from his body.

A man walked up to Chris's father's grave, removing his black cap as he cleared his throat to gain an audience from Chris.

Chris raised his head and his gaze met with an old man in a black tailored suit and we'll polished shoes, his aura screaming wealth and luxury.

Beside the man was two hefty men with a broad chest. Veins popped out of the neck as Chris shuddered at the sight of them.

"I'm sorry about his death." The man said, his voice calm and gentle. The way he spoke emitted the aura of authority and power making Chris curious about the man's identity.

"Who are you? How did you know my father?" Chris asked, standing up from the ground, as he dusted the dirt away from his palms.

"I am your father, Christopher Valgar." The man said, calling Chris by his full name.

Chris's eyes widened in shock as he exchanged glances with his dead father's grave and the prestigious-looking man in front of him with confusion etched on his face.
