(One of the most courageous decisions you’ll ever make is finally letting go of what is hurting your heart and soul.)

Alex looked at Olivia, a storm of emotions brewing within him as he saw the look in her eyes.

“Olivia, you never loved me!?”

Olivia already gave up and she sneered, “You are so stupid, Alex. I’ve been hanging out with Owen long before you came into the picture. Can’t you see the truth!?”

Alex felt his world had been turned upside down again. He could not just accept the reality that was unfolding before him.

Alex said, yelling, “Why, Olivia!? Why!? Why would you do this to me!?”

Olivia was equally furious.

She had tried to live with this man but now, she was so tired of holding back. “I wanted a better life, Alex. You can’t provide that for me. You are poor and you’ve got nothing to offer me!”

Alex was frustrated and hurt, “Olivia, what are you saying?”

“Yes! You are so poor and it’s hard living with you. Why should I choose you over Owen!?” Olivia said adding another layer to the depth of Alex’s hurt.

Owen nodded his head in agreement.

“Oh, by the way, Alex, the amusement park you rented? It belongs to my family” Owen mocked.

“What?” Alex asked in surprise.

“Yeah… it belongs to my family and Olivia knew what you were up to from the beginning.”

“What!? That’s not true!”

Alex turned to look at Olivia and shook his head in disbelief, “He is lying right? You had no idea about the surprise. Right!?”

But Olivia’s silence confirmed it.

“So, you knew I was planning a surprise for our anniversary and you still decided to have that interview with him on the same day!? Olivia, do you even have a heart?” Alex asked in shock.

She knew all along and decided to mock him like this.

“Alex, she knew and she even chose to let you waste your money on purpose.”

Alex lost control.

“Olivia, I demand an explanation from you!”

“Fine… you want an explanation? Fine!” Olivia yelled.

“I knew about the surprise you were planning for the anniversary and decided to let you go on with it. Look, I never cared about your feelings or whatever. I love Owen and he takes care of me.”

She paused for a moment then continued, “Come to think of it, if you were wise, you would save up all that money and use it for something much more important than a lousy party! You knew how much we were suffering in the house without food sometimes and you used all your savings to plan a party!? That’s so stupid!” Olivia blamed him for his financial status.

Alex just stood there and allow her hurl insults at him.

“I really tried to keep up with you, honestly. But, I could not just love you and you disgust me.” she said with an indifferent tone.

Owen laughed out loud when he heard Olivia say this and kissed her on the cheek.

Alex was fueled by a mix of anger and betrayal.

He attempted to punch Owen again but before he got to him, Olivia seized a vase and swung it hard at his head.

His head was bleeding profusely.

Alex, bewildered, looked at Olivia in disbelief, “What the hell, Olivia!?”

“How dare you touch him!?” Olivia yelled.

“Olivia… I…” Alex was too stunned to speak.

Owen laughed again and taunted him, “Now you know who she truly loves and who she belongs to. Only me!”

As Alex grappled with the intense pain he was in his head, Owen pulled Olivia closer and kissed her deeply.

“Olivia!” Alex screamed in agony.

The room felt suffocated with tension as Alex almost fainted from the shock.

Owen provocatively looked at Alex and even plunged in for more.

Alex looked at Olivia in shock.

He could not believe his eyes.

He was right here! In front of her.

How could she do this!?

Olivia was out of breath and pulled Owen away gently.

Then she turned to Alex, “Why are you still standing there? Give us some privacy!”

“In our matrimonial home?” Alex thought to himself.

Owen started to kiss Olivia again and pulled her towards the bedroom.

“We are going to enjoy our time, for the second time today, right here on your bed, Alex. If you are comfortable with it, you can decide to stay there and listen in.” Owen said in a mocking tone.

The door closed behind them, leaving Alex in a state of shock.

The echoes of laughter and intimacy seeped through the room.

Alex cried profusely.

Olivia was sleeping with another man on their matrimonial bed.

The blood on his forehead matched the emotional wounds that was inflicted by the person he trusted the most.

Amidst the broken pieces, Alex decided to let Olivia go.

“She was never mine, anyway.” he whispered to himself.

He purposed within himself never to shed tears for Olivia again.
