Marcus crouched by the alley, his body sore from the guards’ relentless beatings. Blood smeared his face, his left eye swollen shut, and each breath he took rattled with pain.

"Ugh," he groaned, trying to pull himself together, but the pain that shot through his sides sent him crashing back to the ground.

"Messing with that James was a huge mistake," he muttered ruefully under his breath as he tried to pull himself away from the road to a hidden place.

He now realized he shouldn't have provoked James, his jaw clenching at the memory.

He could hear the footsteps of those damned journalists approaching him. They wanted to record his disgrace for the world to see.

Humiliated and ashamed, he ducked his head low, trying to avoid the flashing lights and pointed microphones.

As he heard them throw millions of questions per minute, he could only sob in regret at what had become of his bright career. It was now gone in ashes.

He pulled himself up, shutting his ears to avoid hearing the repo

“Let’s get her home."The words seemed to roll off Winter's ears as she stood awestruck. She had watched the scene unfold with wide eyes and white knuckles. Her vision, which was once blurry and dull, was now bright. Her slacked jaw finally gave way once James rounded off the last guard by giving him a bone-cracking punch on his nose. She found it hard to understand how her brother had suddenly transformed into such a warrior, but the awe in her eyes was unmistakable.Unable to form a meaningful sentence, she stretched her cold, slender fingers toward the bodies sprawled on the ground. The Chairman, who barely recognized James's identity as a god of war, was impressed. The slight upturn of his lips into a faint smirk and his hands casually tucked in his pockets revealed his admiration. The past few hours had been a harrowing experience that she thought she would never escape. Although she felt the pain from the torture and capture of the Tarlose, she was glad she was able to uncover t

The car screeched to a halt outside the large, ordinary-looking gate of the secret base. James stepped out, holding the frail but resilient Winter. Kael followed, his steps purposeful, his expression serious. Jason, still at a distance, couldn’t bear to take his eyes off Winter, who looked like a shadow of the lively woman she once was.“Winter...” Jason’s voice cracked with emotion. He stepped forward, gripping her hand gently but firmly, halting her movement. His fingers lingered on hers, as if letting go, would mean losing her all over again.James’s patience wore thin, and he pressed his lips into a hard line. “I’m not taking her away from you, Jason. She needs medical attention. Let her heal first, and then you can see her.” His tone was calm but laced with authority. With a resigned sigh, Jason released her hand, the weight of his emotions visible in his reluctant gaze. James, Winter, and Kael then headed toward the base entrance, leaving Jason and Chairman Cole by the car. As

After hours, the lights in the operating room turned off. "The surgery is complete," the doctor announced, stepping out. His expression was neutral, revealing neither positive nor negative emotions.Leonard stepped up in a frantic hurry, rushing to see his son without waiting to hear what the doctor would say next.Victor’s room was filled with a sterile silence. The only sound that could be heard was the loud beeping of monitors that showed his heart rate and the condition of some of his other vitals.Leonard's face dropped at how pale Victor looked under the hospital lights. His eyes remained closed. The doctor who had been writing down some things finally looked up with a smile.“The surgery was successful,” he started, his voice sober and calm. “The implant is in place. It was a long procedure, and it might take some time for him to recover fully. Soon, he will be back on his feet.""That will be better. The only thing I want to hear is good news." Leonard responded with an arrog

“Jessica,” he said, nodding at her. “I need to discuss something with you..."Jessica, wanting to hold Winter's hand as she stretched it forward, withdrew it.She glanced at Kael, narrowing her eyes before standing up. The lady patted Winter's back, gently reminding her, " Your body needs a lot of rest." " I know, Jessica. I won't stress myself in any manner." A satisfied smile crept on Winter's lips, assuring Jessica. Jessica smiled back at her and went ahead to meet Kael. During this interaction between the two ladies, Emily observed them both, realization dawning on her face. Jessica had won over Winter, using her profession as a gateway, she thought. Now, it was obvious Winter would stick to Jessica and the latter could take advantage of this chance.Damn! She had to admit Jessica was smart and witted in this aspect! Implementing her goals through a potential link. While James was her goal, the potential link turned out to be Winter. Great! The expression on her f

She paused, snapping her fingers. " Learn to stay away from what's none of your concern. I want James, and you aren't going to stop me because of what you feel about me. Get that clear! Your feelings doesn't count, the only thing I care about is James!''" This is what you have turned into, Jessica?" Kael said through gritted teeth, his knuckles turning into white as he continued fisting his palms! " This is not what I have turned into. This is what you believed that I am now." Saying this, she flipped her hair to one side, uncrossing her arms. She took one last glance at Kael, disregarding him and any of his words with her impolite look. " Stay out of this Kael, or will you be the shameless chit chat that would inform James about this new update? No one can change my mind! I will win over James, and he will be my god of war!" Afterwards, she strode past Kael, out of the room, as she withdraw her eyes away from him, clicking her tongue. A quick flash of frown appeared

The instant the statement was uttered from her lips, a suffocating atmosphere blasted through the phone! "Ha!" Juliet yelled, her hands on the phone trembling terribly, shuffling a step backward. "The nerve of you?" A deep growl echoed from the other end of the call, sending an uncontrollable fear to her heart! " Tell me if you are tired of living, I will grant your request!" " No.........I....am....not." Juliet stammered, her voice above a whisper, and shook her head multiple times. " It was.....a mistake. ..I didn't mean to say such. ....I didn't think of what I just said..... please...pardon me." " Get me, Emily, and if you don't, get ready for your whole family to be burnt down to ashes!" Code Red commanded fiercely. " Only if you follow my wish can you enjoy your life and rise higher in status and wealth!" " Tell me a good news." He spoke up, answering the call excitedly. " It's better to be a good one worthy of my time or you will be fired!" " Oh yes, it is, Mr. Zhao." The secretary at the other end answered enthusiastically. " What is it?!" Zhao's eagerness grew immediately, brimming at his face. " Mr. Zhao, our plummeting stocks have risen more than thirty percent this morning, and we have got numerous calls about foreign investors willing to cooperate with the Song corporation. This would lead to more income, approximately some billion dollars, including our products that are now back in the market." Hearing the analysis of his secretary, Zhao's eyes lit up extremely well, suppressing his urge to scream out as he clenched his fists! Yes! He had done it! He saved his company once again! How he wished his grandson could saved majestically like this?! He would have been the happiest man among the world's eight billion population! Satisfaction roamed across his eyes, no

At the base house, James walked down the dimly lit hallway and entered the living area, where Winter was waiting. Her posture tensed, eyes scanning the doorway. She seemed almost restless as if the weight of the secrets were pressing down on her shoulders. James gave her a curt nod as he approached.“Winter,” he greeted her, his voice calm but with a hint of curiosity. He knew she had valuable information about the Tarlose family, which couldn't be delayed now. Winter met his gaze, her eyes sharp. “James, I told you I have solid evidence against the Tarlose,” she began. “I have tried to open my account through the available computer here. I know who’s helping them, and I know those that have been hurt by them too.”James nodded, encouraging her to continue. “That’s good. It’s exactly what we need. We can’t go after them without understanding who’s on their side,” he spoke up, his eyes calculating. “What else do you know?”Winter hesitated, glancing away before speaking, “Ther

The drive back to the Radcliffe estate was quiet. The weight of recent events lingered in the air, but for the first time in months, there was a sense of closure.James glanced at Emily in the passenger seat, her head resting against the window as she watched the trees blur past.In the backseat, Sarah was fast asleep, her small face finally free of worry.“This feels strange,” Emily said softly, breaking the silence.James glanced at her. “What does?”“Coming home. No Syndicate. No immediate danger. Just... life waiting for us.”James nodded, his grip on the wheel tightening slightly.“It’s what we’ve been fighting for.”Emily turned to him, a small smile on her lips.“I just hope we remember how to live it.”Later that evening, the team gathered at the estate’s main hall for what felt like the first peaceful meal in years. The atmosphere was warm, but there was an underlying current of finality.Kael raised his glass, smirking.“So, this is it, huh? No more bunkers, no more ambushes

Winter’s fingers flew over her keyboard, her screen filled with data streams and encrypted files. The room was dimly lit, the glow of monitors casting sharp shadows on her focused expression.James stood behind her, his arms crossed, tension radiating from him.“You’re sure about this?” James asked, his voice low but firm.Winter nodded, not taking her eyes off the screen.“Positive. These files weren’t just buried—they were hidden in layers of false leads. Whoever did this wanted to make sure no one found them, not even Zhao.”Kael leaned against the doorway, arms crossed.“And yet, here we are. What exactly are we looking at?”Winter tapped a key, bringing up a series of interconnected names, companies, and shell organizations.“The Syndicate isn’t just regrouping—they’re rebranding. New names, new players, same game.”James’s jaw tightened. “Led by who?”“That’s the kicker,” Winter said, spinning her chair to face them.“These files mention leadership figures Zhao didn’t even know

It’s safe.”Emily sighed, the weight of the past few days evident in her posture.“Safe, James, but not sustainable. We can’t keep uprooting our lives like this.”James met her gaze.“It’s temporary. Just until we figure out our next move.”Inside, the facility was stark but functional. Sarah clung to Emily’s hand, her eyes darting around the unfamiliar surroundings.“Is this where we’re going to live now?” Sarah asked softly, her voice tinged with worry.Emily knelt to her daughter’s level, brushing a strand of hair from her face.“J

If they’re there, they’re keeping a low profile.”James adjusted his headset, his eyes scanning the terrain.“Understood. Stay on the sensors. If anything moves, I want to know.”Kael, walking just behind him, let out a low whistle.“Too quiet. I don’t like it.”James nodded.“Neither do I.”The team reached the entrance to the bunker, its steel doors partially concealed by overgrown vines.Kael moved forward, placing a charge on the lock.“Ready to breach,” he said.James gave a quick nod.“Do it.”The explosion was sharp and contained, the doors swinging open to reveal a dimly lit corridor. The team entered cautiously, their weapons raised.Winter’s voice came through again.“You’re in. Be careful—this layout is identical to some o

Winter’s workstation hummed with activity as lines of code scrolled across her screen. She leaned forward, her brow furrowed in concentration. On a nearby table lay the charred piece of paper Kael had recovered from The Widow’s lair.It was encoded, a complex cipher that had taken days to crack.Kael leaned against the wall, watching her work.“You’ve been at this for hours, Winter. Got anything?”Winter sighed, her fingers pausing over the keyboard.“Almost. Whoever wrote this wanted to make sure it stayed hidden. But they underestimated me.”James entered the room, his expression sharp.“What’s the status?”Winter pointed to the screen.“I’ve almost got it. The code is... odd. It’s deliberate, but there’s something about it that feels personal, like whoever wrote it wanted us to find it.”Kael raised an eyebrow.“Personal? From the Syndicate? Doesn’t exactly sound like their style.”Winter’s screen dinged softly, and she sat back, a faint smile of triumph crossing her face.“Got it.

The boardroom was uncomfortably quiet as Emily entered, her heels clicking against the polished floor. The tension in the air was palpable, the kind of silence that only came before a storm. She set her tablet down on the conference table and looked around at the gathered board members. Many avoided her gaze, their expressions carefully neutral.Others met her eyes with a mix of defiance and unease.“Thank you all for coming,” Emily began, her tone sharp but calm.“I’m aware there have been... concerns about the direction of this company in the wake of recent events.”A man at the far end of the table, Greg Thornton, cleared his throat. He was one of the company’s longest-serving board members and had always been vocal about his disapproval of Emily’s leadership.“Concerns is putting it mildly, Mrs. Radcliffe. Some of us are wondering if your methods are jeopardizing this company’s future.”Emily raised an eyebrow.“Jeopardizing? Or exposing inconvenient truths?”The room shifted unea

The interrogation room was colder than usual, or perhaps it just felt that way.Zhao sat at the table, handcuffed, his posture relaxed despite the weight of his situation. His smirk was firmly in place, as if he were the one holding all the cards.James entered, his footsteps deliberate and echoing in the silence. He placed a folder on the table, its contents thick with evidence of Zhao’s crimes.Without sitting, he leaned on the table, his eyes locked on Zhao.“This is your last chance,” James said, his tone sharp.“Who’s still out there? Who’s pulling the strings now that you’re finished?”Zhao chuckled softly, shaking his head.“Finished? My dear Radcliffe, you give yourself too much credit. You’ve barely scratched the surface.”James’s jaw tightened, but his voice remained steady.“You’re alone. The Syndicate is in ruins. You have nothing left.”Zhao leaned forward slightly, his smirk widening.“Nothing left? Oh, James. You’ve only pruned the tree, not uprooted it. The roots are s

The headquarters was quieter than usual, but the weight of what they’d accomplished hung heavy in the air.James stood in the main briefing room, surrounded by his team, while Winter sat at her station, typing furiously.Screens around her displayed reams of data—records, account numbers, and connections all tied to the Syndicate.Kael leaned against the wall, arms crossed.“That’s it, then? We’re done?”Winter didn’t look up from her screen.“Not yet. The Widow’s fall gave us access to a treasure trove of intel, but there’s a lot to sort through. Sleeper agents, hidden funds, collaborators—we need to root out every last one.”James nodded, his expression grim.“Every loose end tied up. No one slips through.”Kael raised an eyebrow.“You think that’s even possible? The Syndicate had its claws in everything.”James’s voice was steady. “We don’t stop until it’s done.”In another part of the building, Emily stood in front of a mirror, adjusting her blazer. She was minutes away from addre
