James raised his head coldly, his lips almost feeling hard..

" My sister didn't die. She was taken by the Tarlose and imprisoned for trying to expose their hidden secrets."

Hearing this, Kael was stunned, unable to react for a split second.

He stood straight with his hands clasped behind him, furrowing his brows. This new information was something unexpected for him.

‘’All these times, I had thought Winter was dead, and several times I have blamed myself for not been able to save her when she needed me.’’

James pulled himself up from the seat, his heart heavy with the sudden realization.

‘’During my days in the battlefield, there’s no moment I think of Emily, and I wouldn’t remember Winter, knowing I owe her too much for not saving her.’’

He maintained a straight face but the killing intent he exuded, refused to decrease.

Kael listened carefully to James, the frown on his face deepening.

He couldn’t believe the Tarlose had fabricated such a lie for them, deceiving them complet

Because of the sudden news, the ward had fallen into an abyss of silence, the tension palpable. Zhao observed the expressions of Leonard and Victor, hooking his lips mischievously. ‘’ It seems you are correct, Victor. Your guess is the truth.’’ ; Leonard’s face turned grave, a grim look clouding his face. ‘’What are you saying Zhao?’’‘’I don’t believe this!’’ Shaking his head, Victor snapped, disagreeing with Zhao’s sudden news. ‘’How can that shameless and penniless bastard be the god of war?! He is suspicious but he can’t hold that huge title! That will be disastrous.’’ A crease deepened on his forehead, as his eyes glinted with disdain!‘’ It is.’’ Zhao didn’t pay attention to Victor’s outburst. He snapped his fingers, ‘’ Bring me the files.’’ He ordered, his gaze lingering on Victor. ‘’ Recall carefully, your first encounter with me at the hostel. You told me something.’’ Immediately hearing this, Leonard faced his son, furrowing his brows deeply. He pondered on what Zha

Before they could take a step further, a deep unfriendly voice rang out, interrupting their movement….. ‘’ Hey! Who the hell are you, people?!’’ The bodyguard standing at the entrance of the media house, yelled as he pointed at them. He let out a sigh that was filled with disgust, his eyes seizing up James and Kael. James and Kael paused in their steps, their indifferent gazes swept across the bodyguard, who looked as if he was ready to stop them at all costs. Impatiently, Kael snapped at the guard, twisting his face out of irritation. ‘’ Do we have any business with you?’’The guard’s forehead furrowed, a sign of being displeased at Kael’s statement. Retorting, he marched forward angrily, ‘’ You don’t have any business with me but your presence is not needed! Sunshine Media House is a unique media house that stands amongst the list of large media houses in the country. Stinky and wretched people like you are not welcomed and don’t deserve to be here!’’His eyes narrowed, add

The first guard growled with hostility, and within a flash, he swung his hardened fists forward!!James remained rooted at his spot. When the fists were about to make an encounter with him, he shifted his weight forward, ready to strike back. In a swift motion, he raised his hands, countering the guard's fists. This stunned the first guard all of a sudden, blinking repeatedly as he watched James grasp both of his hands, holding them in place. Before he could react further, James had released the guard’s hands from his grip, pushing him a few steps away. With a huge slam of his hands together, the terrible force generated from the clap was enough to throw the guard off balance, sending him rolling twice on the ground! The pressure the guard felt made his head spin, and his mind started buzzing with different scenarios until his head smashed against the pavement, after rolling twice. Crack! The sound of a bone cracking could be heard, accompanied by a piercing shriek from th

Without warning, Kael lashed out his hands, delivering a series of nonstop slaps to Marcus' cheeks!! Pah!!!!!!!Immediately, Marcus' cheeks swelled up visibly, turning red. The pain numbed his face, making him unable to say anything. Once James gestured for Kael to round up the punishment, the latter stopped the slaps, stepping back from Marcus. The series of harsh slaps made Marcus dizzy, his eyes going round. He almost lost his balance, his feet shaking and warm blood trickled down from the corner of his mouth. Pointing at Kael, the chief Editor could only grumble, clutching his swollen chubby cheeks with his other hand. " Do you need some more?" Kael stood akimbo, twitching his lips as he taunted, " I bet you enjoyed it." A bottomless fury surged from Marcus' heart, while his face twisted into a snarl! He couldn't take this! How would high-ranking personnel like him be subjected to this sort of ridicule and humiliation?! After being slapped severely! This was a blatant sla

As soon as Chairman Cole processed all the words from President Richard, his face grew white, bloody draining from his skin rapidly! His head started buzzing uncontrollably as if he just realized he had done the worst thing in his life! " You .........are.........."' Richard waved him off immediately and said, " It's unnecessary to regret now." Chairman Cole's face turned pale with Richards's words and he rubbed his temple nervously. Marcus who listened to this, hissed immediately, refusing to believe what Richard just said. " Chairman Cole! Don't listen to him! The president has been brainwashed and doesn't know what he is saying!" Then, he skipped towards Chairman Cole with his fat belly, trying to counter Richard's words. " What the president said can't be true. It's all made up. The news is evidence of this. We have all witnessed how this James Donovan was dragged as the penniless and worthless live-in son-in-law of the Thompson. Please, let's not make a mistake and be

Once the call ended, Chairman Cole's face twisted into a vicious one, seizing the half-dead-looking Marcus. " You better get prepared cos this is just the start! His face resembled someone, that just had an encounter with a terrifying ghost! Without thinking, he knew he was finished! Chairman Cole paid no attention to him, sneering coldly. He turned away and rushed back into the media house, his heart thumping in his chest due to immense nervousness. One could even see how some beads of sweat had pulled out from his forehead, dripping slowly down to his face. As he pushed the door opened, his trembling eyes caught sight of James and Kael, talking to the receptionist. Quickly, he ambled towards them, patting his thighs to keep himself calm. He had no idea James was such a powerful figure. But why was he drag

Just then, a young man wearing a gold-rimmed glass walked forward, adjusting his glass calmly as he offered, " I can tell you everything you need to know about when Winter Donovan worked here." His words drove attention toward him, and everyone glared at him. But that didn’t stop him from heading towards James and Chairman Cole. ‘’ Hello, you can call me Jason.’’ He placed his right hand on his chest, introducing himself in a polite tone, ‘’ I am the clerk of this organization.’’As he made himself known, the journalists and receptionist raised their brows, unable to stop wondering what the clerk in the house was up to. Chairman Cole immediately turned to the clerk, Jason, a thin line appearing between his brows. How does this issue concern a lowly clerk? Who the hell is he? The man thought. His eyes glared at Jason, dripping with malice and he snapped, ‘’Do I have to remind you that you are just a clerk in this organization? What do you know about Winter Donovan?! You are just

I'm going crazy. I can't take it anymore. I want to see her right now!" Staring at Jason approaching him, Kael finally realized something in the former's eyes. The same thing James saw in Jason's eyes back at the reception. " Shut up!"'James irritatedly snapped at Jason who had seemed to go crazy after hearing Winter was alive. " If you can't keep calm in the face of the truth, then you don't deserve to know the truth." He lectured, without bothering to glance at Jason or Chairman Cole. His words pulled something in Jason and immediately his steps halted, slumping his shoulders like someone carrying the huge weight of the world. • CHAPTER 256

The drive back to the Radcliffe estate was quiet. The weight of recent events lingered in the air, but for the first time in months, there was a sense of closure.James glanced at Emily in the passenger seat, her head resting against the window as she watched the trees blur past.In the backseat, Sarah was fast asleep, her small face finally free of worry.“This feels strange,” Emily said softly, breaking the silence.James glanced at her. “What does?”“Coming home. No Syndicate. No immediate danger. Just... life waiting for us.”James nodded, his grip on the wheel tightening slightly.“It’s what we’ve been fighting for.”Emily turned to him, a small smile on her lips.“I just hope we remember how to live it.”Later that evening, the team gathered at the estate’s main hall for what felt like the first peaceful meal in years. The atmosphere was warm, but there was an underlying current of finality.Kael raised his glass, smirking.“So, this is it, huh? No more bunkers, no more ambushes

Winter’s fingers flew over her keyboard, her screen filled with data streams and encrypted files. The room was dimly lit, the glow of monitors casting sharp shadows on her focused expression.James stood behind her, his arms crossed, tension radiating from him.“You’re sure about this?” James asked, his voice low but firm.Winter nodded, not taking her eyes off the screen.“Positive. These files weren’t just buried—they were hidden in layers of false leads. Whoever did this wanted to make sure no one found them, not even Zhao.”Kael leaned against the doorway, arms crossed.“And yet, here we are. What exactly are we looking at?”Winter tapped a key, bringing up a series of interconnected names, companies, and shell organizations.“The Syndicate isn’t just regrouping—they’re rebranding. New names, new players, same game.”James’s jaw tightened. “Led by who?”“That’s the kicker,” Winter said, spinning her chair to face them.“These files mention leadership figures Zhao didn’t even know

It’s safe.”Emily sighed, the weight of the past few days evident in her posture.“Safe, James, but not sustainable. We can’t keep uprooting our lives like this.”James met her gaze.“It’s temporary. Just until we figure out our next move.”Inside, the facility was stark but functional. Sarah clung to Emily’s hand, her eyes darting around the unfamiliar surroundings.“Is this where we’re going to live now?” Sarah asked softly, her voice tinged with worry.Emily knelt to her daughter’s level, brushing a strand of hair from her face.“J

If anything moves, I want to know.”Kael, walking just behind him, let out a low whistle.“Too quiet. I don’t like it.”James nodded.“Neither do I.”The team reached the entrance to the bunker, its steel doors partially concealed by overgrown vines.Kael moved forward, placing a charge on the lock.“Ready to breach,” he said.James gave a quick nod.“Do it.”The explosion was sharp and contained, the doors swinging open to reveal a dimly lit corridor. The team entered cautiously, their weapons raised.Winter’s voice came through again.“You’re in. Be careful—this layout is identical to some o

Winter’s workstation hummed with activity as lines of code scrolled across her screen. She leaned forward, her brow furrowed in concentration. On a nearby table lay the charred piece of paper Kael had recovered from The Widow’s lair.It was encoded, a complex cipher that had taken days to crack.Kael leaned against the wall, watching her work.“You’ve been at this for hours, Winter. Got anything?”Winter sighed, her fingers pausing over the keyboard.“Almost. Whoever wrote this wanted to make sure it stayed hidden. But they underestimated me.”James entered the room, his expression sharp.“What’s the status?”Winter pointed to the screen.“I’ve almost got it. The code is... odd. It’s deliberate, but there’s something about it that feels personal, like whoever wrote it wanted us to find it.”Kael raised an eyebrow.“Personal? From the Syndicate? Doesn’t exactly sound like their style.”Winter’s screen dinged softly, and she sat back, a faint smile of triumph crossing her face.“Got it.

The boardroom was uncomfortably quiet as Emily entered, her heels clicking against the polished floor. The tension in the air was palpable, the kind of silence that only came before a storm. She set her tablet down on the conference table and looked around at the gathered board members. Many avoided her gaze, their expressions carefully neutral.Others met her eyes with a mix of defiance and unease.“Thank you all for coming,” Emily began, her tone sharp but calm.“I’m aware there have been... concerns about the direction of this company in the wake of recent events.”A man at the far end of the table, Greg Thornton, cleared his throat. He was one of the company’s longest-serving board members and had always been vocal about his disapproval of Emily’s leadership.“Concerns is putting it mildly, Mrs. Radcliffe. Some of us are wondering if your methods are jeopardizing this company’s future.”Emily raised an eyebrow.“Jeopardizing? Or exposing inconvenient truths?”The room shifted unea

Who’s pulling the strings now that you’re finished?”Zhao chuckled softly, shaking his head.“Finished? My dear Radcliffe, you give yourself too much credit. You’ve barely scratched the surface.”James’s jaw tightened, but his voice remained steady.“You’re alone. The Syndicate is in ruins. You have nothing left.”Zhao leaned forward slightly, his smirk widening.“Nothing left? Oh, James. You’ve only pruned the tree, not uprooted it. The roots are s

The headquarters was quieter than usual, but the weight of what they’d accomplished hung heavy in the air.James stood in the main briefing room, surrounded by his team, while Winter sat at her station, typing furiously.Screens around her displayed reams of data—records, account numbers, and connections all tied to the Syndicate.Kael leaned against the wall, arms crossed.“That’s it, then? We’re done?”Winter didn’t look up from her screen.“Not yet. The Widow’s fall gave us access to a treasure trove of intel, but there’s a lot to sort through. Sleeper agents, hidden funds, collaborators—we need to root out every last one.”James nodded, his expression grim.“Every loose end tied up. No one slips through.”Kael raised an eyebrow.“You think that’s even possible? The Syndicate had its claws in everything.”James’s voice was steady. “We don’t stop until it’s done.”In another part of the building, Emily stood in front of a mirror, adjusting her blazer. She was minutes away from addre
