Chapter Seven

Nathan looked at bill in front of him and started shivering. He knew that he did not have that amount to foot it but he could not back down and be embarrassed by Alex.

"Fine. Let's order the golden package," he finally said, gulping hard.

"Perfect," Alex said and returned the menu back to the waiter

The meal arrived ten minutes later and immediately it arrived, everyone dugged in.

The meal was so delicious and satisfying that no one paid much attention to Nathan and hence did not notice his distress while eating.

He was the only one that did not enjoy the meal that was being served in front of him.

He loosened his belt and gasped for air as he thought of how he would finally get out of the mess he had put himself in.

His new found girlfriend, Susan noticed his countenance and looked at him sternly.

"What the hell is wrong with you?" She whispered.

"I may not be able to pay for this meal," he whispered back to her.

Immediately, Susan looked at him and snorted.

"Well, find out how to sort it out," she said sharply and immediately went back to eating. All she knew was that she was not going to spend a dime of hers in paying for the meal.

She had just gotten that money from the old man she had slept with and she was not about to waste it because of her boyfriend's stupidity.

Alex couldn't help but notice the distress between them and he smiled to himself and continued eating.

Soon, everyone finished eating and the waiter came to clear the table. He returned a few minutes later with the bill.

"Your total bill is $100,000 sir," the man said calmly causing Nathan to choke on his drink.

"What?!" He said in astonishment.

"You are telling me that we just spent a grand?" He asked again.

"Yes sir," the waiter responded.

By this time, Nathan was sweating profusely. He did not have his part to pay and his heart was pounding loudly.

"What's wrong, Nathan?" Alex teased.

"Is the money too much for you?" He asked, drawing everyone's attention to him.

"Of course not," Nathan forced a laughter. "I am just worried about you," he said.

"Oh don't worry about me," Alex said and brought out his black card.

"Take $50,000 from there and the rest of the bill will be paid by my very rich friend Nathan here. Isn't that right, Nathan?" Alex teased again with a soft chuckle.

But Nathan's words were stuck in his throat. He could not say a single word.

"Okay, sir," the waiter said as he took the card and scurried off to take care of the bill.

"Are you sure you are okay, Nathan? You look a little flustered," Alex teased him some more.

"I'm fine," Nathan responded and everyone could hear the frustration in his voice.

Soon the waiter returned. "Your side of the bill has been cleared sir." He said to Alex.

"Sir, are you paying through cash or card?" The man asked Nathan.

Finally being on the spotlight with no way to turn, Nathan started shaking.

"Just give me a moment," he finally excused himself and rushed to a corner.

He immediately placed a call across to his father.

"Dad. I need your help. Desperately!" He said immediately the man picked.

"What have you done this time?" The man said, tired of whatever his son had to tell him.

"Well, dad, I need $50,000. I am in a very tough situation and I will be badly embarrassed if I don't pay this money."

"What? Do you know how much you are asking for? I just gave you your monthly allowance of $20,000 last week? Have you blown through that money already?"

"Dad, come on. That money is not even enough to get me out of this."

"I don't care. Now, listen closely to me, young man. I spend a lot of my time and energy working to get paid and I will not allow you to squander it as you deem fit. Now if you can't pay for that, then take it as a lesson to stop spending anyhow. Have a nice day," the man said and hung up.

"Fuck!" Nathan yelled and immediately called Susan.

"Babe, please come meet me. Please," he begged.

Groaning, Susan stood up to go meet him.

"What is it?"

"Babe, please you have to help me. I don't have that money to pay. But I have called my father but he isn't saying anything good. Look I promise you, I will pay you back as soon as I get it. Please."

Susan stood still, regretting her decision. She could not allow him to embarrass her like that. After all, if she did. She would be the one known for dating a man who couldn't foot a restaurant bill.

"Fine, but you owe me. You owe me big," he said and finally sent the money to him.

The duo went back to the table and Nathan hurriedly paid for his side of the bill.

Once the waiter left, Alex's friend asked him

"Alex, how were you able to pay for that?"

"Umm, I won a lottery," Alex said, not ready to tell them what actually happened.

"Are you serious?! Why didn't you tell me? Do you know how worried we were?" Dustin asked.

"Okay, Alex. I really had a good time today. Thank you for the early dinner and I would love to have you on social media."

"Of course," Alex took her phone and sent a friendship request to himself on F******k and immediately accepted it.

"That is wonderful. Now, I look forward to seeing you at my birthday party. Come with your friends, okay?" She said with a smile and left the restaurant.

Susan and her friends went into the bathroom to straighten their makeup and Susan wished she had stayed back.

"Did you see Alex? My God, I can't believe he won the lottery." Caroline said..

"I know. He is very handsome and now he has money. He is like every girl's dream man," Jasmine added.

Susan stood in disgust at what her friends were saying. She had just broken up with the guy and now he had money. She could not believe her bad luck.

"It's just lottery money. Trust me, it is going to finish soon and he will go back to being broke," she said out loud. Also trying to comfort herself.

"Let's go," she commanded them before they could say another word.

The trio stood outside, waiting for their Uber when suddenly a drunkard walked up to them.

"Ladies, looking good," he said, slurping his words

"Get away from here," Susan said as the man grabbed hold of her.

"Oh come on now baby. Don't resist me. I promise you, you will love it. Your friends can join too, if they want. The more the merrier," the man said.

This angered the girls and they immediately removed their shoes and started beating the drunkard with it.

Scared for his life, the man ran away.

"Yeah, you better run. You little piss of shit!" Susan yelled, desperate to get her annoyance and anger towards the night out of her system.
