One day, she didn't come.
Thinking nothing of it, I came back the day after, and the day after that.
Over a week passed, and I still didn't see her.
Eventually, I rushed over to the country's capital. I hid in the clouds to go past the city's borders, and entered the imperial grounds from the air.
I sneaked into the palace, and eventually found her.
She was heavily guarded.
It wasn't for security, but more similar to safekeeping.
Made a new cover! The old one was quite ugly and was originally supposed to be temporary. After so much time, it was about time I spent a bit of time on it. That volume is what I wrote close to my burnout, in the middle of my depressive period and my adolescence, so it's a bit hard to figure out what exactly was going through my mind as I wrote. Sadness for sure, probably a lot of hate, seeing the timing, and the rest I can't figure out. What I know at least is that the devil was partly a metaphor for my own mental state back then, so I'm keeping that as a base for the devil, though I'll slowly get him further and further from my former self.

Sadness, nostalgia, and pain. I could think back forever about whether I could have done something. "If only", right? But it isn't realistic. Instead, I lose myself in my memories. I didn't know her for too long, but she marked me. She was unlike everything I knew. She was cheerful, and had true, pure kindness. For that, I had to find an idea that not only fulfilled that objective but also solved a big enough problem for the devils that no one would notice the implications. [...] I adjust my tie. The time comes for me to enter the devil Senate. The Senate is presided over by the Jade devil, an old devil known to be impartial. I feel the curious gazes of the members of the Senate on me as soon as I enter. -Our current system rates the merit of a devil based on their performance on a summon. While I will propose a few adjustments, it isn't the main problem this proposal tackles.Yes, this is for the second proposal, the one that is made to be rejected.-The main problem this tackles is supply.I take a small pause. It allows for my public to think a bit about the approaches that could be taken, without giving them enough time to get a solution nearly as good as my proposal.-If right now some devils are most likely to get more merits than others for the same work, we need to make sure merit is not judged by quantity, but quality. We need to avoid those devils good at their work being restricted in their achievements by supply issues. This is why I propose a supply coefficiGive me a word I'll make a world Volume 9 - A devil's sadness (6) - The Devil Senate

Everything went pretty well. While the voting itself is anonymous, for security purposes, but the vetoing isn't. The goal of this is to have the senate regulate itself. Any abusive use of vetoes would have the senate turn against that person, making the use of vetoes for personal and unjustified matters harder. And so, if everyone felt justified to use their veto on the second proposal, no one used it on the first. I made sure it was well tied together. Their reputation guarantees their current positions, and as such no one would want to risk their own reputation for that. Once the Jade Devil made sure to listen to everyone's objections, it was time for the actual voting. -Good. According to procedure, the second proposa

Do you want power? Money? Immortality?Today, however, I had an unusual summon.-None of those. These, we already have.Around me are 9 dragons. They are lying down, to have their eyes at my height, but their presence is still as imposing. I feel as if I am at the bottom of a valley, surrounded by mountains of muscles.I stayed si

Rabbits are usually their prey, so at most, I'd have expected them to have hunted so many rabbits they were out of food, or something. But instead, the rabbits are the hunters? -So you're telling me that the only dragons still alive in this world are refugees in the capital? That's the only way for the menace of razing their capital city to constitute a threat to their species. -Exactly. Just to be sure... -What kind of rabbits are we talking about? It is as I feared. They broke through the world's barrier without it coming to our notice. Once a new confinement solution is found, I guess most of the devils will be mobilized to solve this problem. At least, for now, I must find a way to contain the Torrent Rabbits in the Dragon world. Or, rather than I must find, the Dragons must find. I hope they're understanding of my current position, and will either revise their solution when I say it's impossible or leave me creative liberty. I look at the Dragons again. -So, what solution did you consider? According to the contract, I must be convinced of its viability within a year.Give me a word I'll make a world Volume 9 - A devil's sadness (11) - Tomorrow
An adolescent girl was in her room. It looked very characteristic of two problems. It had a domineering feeling of youthful error. And at its source, an excessive parental love. Too much pink, too girly. She was used to it, but she would never let anyone else into this room, which could make the blindest man feel blinded. But she would never admit she regretted her decision. To her, it was half her life ago, but to her parents, it was only a moment ago. While she did not share their outlook, she understood that simple fact just from their habit of mentioning her younger self as if it was yesterday with anyone, with no care for h
