My goal is to change the law in a roundabout way that would help me.

For that, I had to find an idea that not only fulfilled that objective but also solved a big enough problem for the devils that no one would notice the implications.

[...]

I adjust my tie.

The time comes for me to enter the devil Senate.

The Senate is presided over by the Jade devil, an old devil known to be impartial.

I feel the curious gazes of the members of the Senate on me as soon as I enter.

ClemCa

I delayed naming him as long as possible, but it's not possible anymore. I really have a terrible naming sense. And that’s with the help of a generator… Anyway, I hope you enjoyed my use of discourse! I'm not usually great at writing dialogues, and I never wrote actual straight political argumentations, so I hope I conveyed the lawfulness of the devils right. Anyway, it's not finished, it's going to continue next chapter!

-Our current system rates the merit of a devil based on their performance on a summon. While I will propose a few adjustments, it isn't the main problem this proposal tackles.Yes, this is for the second proposal, the one that is made to be rejected.-The main problem this tackles is supply.I take a small pause. It allows for my public to think a bit about the approaches that could be taken, without giving them enough time to get a solution nearly as good as my proposal.-If right now some devils are most likely to get more merits than others for the same work, we need to make sure merit is not judged by quantity, but quality. We need to avoid those devils good at their work being restricted in their achievements by supply issues. This is why I propose a supply coeffici

Everything went pretty well. While the voting itself is anonymous, for security purposes, but the vetoing isn't. The goal of this is to have the senate regulate itself. Any abusive use of vetoes would have the senate turn against that person, making the use of vetoes for personal and unjustified matters harder. And so, if everyone felt justified to use their veto on the second proposal, no one used it on the first. I made sure it was well tied together. Their reputation guarantees their current positions, and as such no one would want to risk their own reputation for that. Once the Jade Devil made sure to listen to everyone's objections, it was time for the actual voting. -Good. According to procedure, the second proposa

Keywords: Dragon/Rabbit/Torrent/Raze (2) I throw a suspicious look at the 9 dragons around me, but they all seem serious. Rabbits are usually their prey, so at most, I'd have expected them to have hunted so many rabbits they were out of food, or something. But instead, the rabbits are the hunters? -So you're telling me that the only dragons still alive in this world are refugees in the capital? That's the only way for the menace of razing their capital city to constitute a threat to their species. -Exactly. Just to be sure... -What kind of rabbits are we talking about?

It is as I feared. They broke through the world's barrier without it coming to our notice. Once a new confinement solution is found, I guess most of the devils will be mobilized to solve this problem. At least, for now, I must find a way to contain the Torrent Rabbits in the Dragon world. Or, rather than I must find, the Dragons must find. I hope they're understanding of my current position, and will either revise their solution when I say it's impossible or leave me creative liberty. I look at the Dragons again. -So, what solution did you consider? According to the contract, I must be convinced of its viability within a year.

An adolescent girl was in her room. It looked very characteristic of two problems. It had a domineering feeling of youthful error. And at its source, an excessive parental love. Too much pink, too girly. She was used to it, but she would never let anyone else into this room, which could make the blindest man feel blinded. But she would never admit she regretted her decision. To her, it was half her life ago, but to her parents, it was only a moment ago. While she did not share their outlook, she understood that simple fact just from their habit of mentioning her younger self as if it was yesterday with anyone, with no care for h

It's tomorrow. I used up more energy than I expected so it took me almost 14 hours to recover. I said I was going to visit her, but to do so, I need to get a summon. By a human summoner, with that. I need to be in the right world after all. A few hours after waking up, I finally get a summon to answer. The waiting time was shorter than I expected. I answer it. My apparition could be way faster, but I would lose credibility and theatricality. So I slowly appear. Bit by bit. I come up through the circle, eyes closed.

-The terms "anyone or anything" should have an exception, so you are not able to change the terms of the contract after signing it. It is after all possible to change it so long as both parties agree, and the wish that is fulfilled would allow you to be the only party whose will matters. I see. She thought. And: -Seems fine with me. She answered. -Wait for a while while I prepare the contract. The Devil said. She already expected it, so she was not surprised when he eventually took a contract out of thin air. Compared to his appearance or to the scale of her wish, it was nothing.

As I get down the stairs, I seriously consider the utility of actually going. I have about 6 hours and a half of courses in the day. Minus 4 hours it makes it down to 2 and a half. Minus the time to eat, and the 30 minutes to walk all the way there, it would eat 1 more hour into it. In the end, is it worth walking 1 hour in total to have 1 hour and a half of courses?

How troublesome… Lately, it seemed to be the only thought getting through his mind. As the Secretary of Defense of the United States, he was supposed to have some level of authority, but, with the recent events, things had too much of a tendency to be out of his hands. With supernatural matters that could threaten national security visible to the public, he felt like he visited the President's desk more than his own. It could almost be seen as enough to warrant the creation of a highly secure internal mailing system, if such a system wasn't deemed to be eventually broken through. In fact, it could be observed that he was seen in the White House than the cans of coke the president kept drinking. Today was no different.

She wasn't feeling much. In fact, both her senses and awareness were limited, for she was currently part of a gigantic mass of flesh. She was right at the center. Maybe it was because her individuality was slowly disappearing, but she had a small moment of clarity. Right as her zombie part was slowly integrating into a greater consciousness, her human side, which had disappeared ever since she became a zombie, reappeared. As her reason came back, it was hit with a truckload of memories, and she was met with horror. It wasn't just what she became or what she did, but also where she was. She could only see darkness, she could hear nothing, she could only feel a wriggling wall of flesh all around, as if she was bathing in it.

Seeing how difficult my choices are becoming, it is likely that my sister is faced with considerably difficult choices too. Preventing negative consequences might not be the best way to deal with things. Sometimes, doing a trade-off might be better. Of course, I have no way to know if my sister also has choices and not another form of using her angels, but it doesn't change the fact that I trust her ability to pick the best path. If she decided that sacrificing Sydney was necessary, then I trust her. While I might be a bit short-sighted, I believe she has t

  • Some news

Over the past 4 days, today included, which is when I usually write this novel in the week, I've not written anything. I've been a bit out of it lately, and while I've had reason to attribute it to fatigue up to now, as I was genuinely constantly tired, I've had time to sleep more since then, and I'm still not better. Overall, I feel a lack of inspiration, and a lack of will to do anything. I've still been able to pump out quite a few good chapters, but I think I reached the limit. I know it sounds sudden, but I'm going to take a break for a short while. Back in June was when I started writing everyday for my various novels, after a month, I was a bit burned out and took a break. I then was back 3 weeks later and have been since then. Originally, it was more about testing my limits, and it turned into an habit, but I still think I should still stay within the bounds of being well enough to write quality chapters. Anyway, less than a month ago, I was g

After all, it wasn't figuratively, but literally going through Sydney. Sydney wasn't the capital of Australia, but it was definitely its biggest city by population. A position that it would definitely lose to Melbourne after the current disaster striking it is finished. If it is ever finished, and if there is any way to compile the body count. Meanwhile, the prime offender was absorbing people at an extremely fast rate, as it was storming through the city. It was rolling through the city. Yes, rolling. Whatever it was, the collective entity quickly understood that rather than focusing on

When talking about such an elusive concept as a Warp Drive, there were multiple areas of expertise that needed to reach a certain level to develop one.Of course, science fiction, which was originally inspired by science, had now long turned around and influenced several generations of scientists and physicists. And so, a lot of people already worked on it. While saying it was your main domain of research would attract scornful glares, and some did attract such glares since 1994, but working on a few papers several times in your career wasn't a problem. In fact, the implications of warp drives on the current model of quantum physics made it a pretty interesting research subject for various specialties. And this was why, when in early 2021, a paper proposed a theoretical model for warp drive, it attracted a deep inte
