Gray thinks that this is a joke. It has to be because that's the only way he can make sense of his wife handing him divorce papers after meeting him after years.

His jaw is on the ground, but she sighs with impatience as she pushes it towards him.

“Are you stupid as well as blind? Take it!” She orders.

“Wendy, what's this?” He wonders, feeling around for it.

“Divorce papers, you dummy! I don't know what I was doing with you in the first place. How did I fall for a loser like you?” She hiss.

Gray is dumbfounded because he didn't used to be this broke. He was worth a few hundred thousand dollars and he spent all his money on Wendy, but now that she is seeing him in such a terrible state, she has forgotten all the good things he has done for her?

Wendy looks around and adjusts her glasses. Oh God, don't allow any of her friends to be here, or worst still, her new rich boyfriend, Mateo.

Immediately after Gary left for the army, she was scouted into a modeling agency that shot her into the top twenty in the city.

Her life has changed, she has met rich and elite people and suddenly, her soldier husband is no longer good for her.

She can't take him to red carpets, she can't take him to charity events, because he won't bid the highest on the pearl earrings that is probably hundred of years old.

Look at his shoes, look at his unkempt hair. Look at his worn out suit, look at his droopy eyes that seems to be sinking into his huge eye sockets!

The most annoying of it all is the fact that the government just announced the ten soldiers that have been honored by the president, but her stupid husband is not among any of them.

He has the audacity to come back blind when he should have died in the war and perhaps be honored like the great general Mars!

The fool has come back with blind eyes on top of it all! Argh, she can't wait to get this wretched man out of her life!

“Here, sign the damn thing already!” She taps on the envelope severally. “We are going to meet in court in a few days and the judge will officially break this tragic union.”

Gray feels pain grow in his throat. Tragic? She is calling their marriage tragic? He loves her! He gave her everything and if she ever needs it, he is willing to give her his beating heart.

No, he loves this woman too much. He is not going to sign this stupid papers. He pushes them away and shakes his head.

“No, Wendy, I am not going to divorce you.” He tells her.

Her face contorts with annoyance. “What?! I came all the way and you want to tell me no?!”

“I love you, Wendy and I don't know what has triggered you to do this. Maybe we should get a drink and think this over?... It's been years and I am sure you just miss me…”

“Miss you?” She scoffs and looks away. “You are asking me to have drinks with you, but I know that you don't even have the money for the drinks!”

Gray touches his pockets. She is right, he has only a quarter left.

“Wendy, let's not talk about a stupid divorce. We have other things to talk about…” he wants to ask her about the house, but she holds out her hand rudely in his face and shuts him up.

“Do not speak! I have had just about enough with you. I can risk people seeing me out with you! We have to meet in court in a few days and it's better if you accept this divorce and sign the papers!” She gives him a wicked chuckle as she stands up to her feet.

She opens her expensive bag and slaps a ten dollar bill on the table. “I know that you have been salivating since we came in here. Get yourself the cheapest food down the street. I need you to be alive for the judge to break our marriage!”

She stands up and walks out of the place, her hips swaying and catching the attention of other men.

Gray sighs as he runs his hand over his face. Why has his wife changed so much? Why is she trying to hurt him? Why does she want her divorce?

Gray is in a heartbroken place, but the security walks into him. The restaurant is too elite to allow a blind poor man in here. He has to go. The man is going to throw him out if he doesn't leave immediately.

Gray stands up and stands to hit his stick around, finding his way towards the door. He feels ashamed as some of the customers can't stop staring at him. He can feel their eyes on him.

He keeps his eyes down and he he bumps into a group of young men that are walking into the restaurant.

Poor Gary, he loses his balance and falls against a nearby table. A bowl of soup flies and pours on the expensive suits of the three young men!
