Barter, desperate to secure his status in the city, started to rack his brain concerning the recent development. ''The only way to get your boss very upset about this, is to put it to him that Laura's disappearance has something to do with Greg stepping up the ladder!'' Barter's friend, Leroy, advised him. Barter frowned. ''Wait. Why have I never thought of this?'' He asked, rhetorically. Leroy smiled. ''I was wondering the same myself.
