''Go and tell your mysterious gang-affiliated ex-boyfriend to come and save you from me,'' Damien would say, anytime he was humiliating her.
It didn't take too much to upset Damien, and he would pounce on Laura as if she stole from him.On the other hand, Greg was trying to thrive. He was trying to get his business back on its feet.''I'm glad you eventually came out of your dazed state,'' Pedro said one time. He was tired of having to babysit Greg. A grown man. For the number of days Greg spent in depression, it took a lot from Pedro not to kick him out to live in the streets because Pedro was the only one footing the bills in the house. Greg was incapacitated and was not doing anything to get back on his feet at the time.
Now he had taken a quick job that could fend for a place for him to live for the time being. So he left Pedro's house.
''Forget about that bitch. Don't ever think about her again, because she's not worth it. Think about what she has put you through,'' Pedro told Greg the day he was leaving his house. He helped Greg convey his luggage to his new house, so he seized the opportunity to give Greg a pep talk.
''I'm not a kid, Pedro. You don't have to sound like you are scolding me,'' Greg queried.
Pedro shook his head.
''You know I'm not querying you. Just do the right thing, Mr. Wiseman,'' Pedro said and clicked his tongue angrily at Greg.
Greg rolled his eyes.
''You are running your mouth because I had a small setback. You know, ordinarily, you are no match for me. And I have forgotten about Linda,'' Greg replied.
''Indeed,'' Pedro said with a scoff.
''Seriously, what do you take me for?'' Greg asked. ''You expect me to keep that sort of person in my mind after what she did to me? Apart from the fact that I went to jail because of her, the humiliation, Pedro. I lost my damn house. I swear, if it's not Mr. Ban behind it, then who would do that to me? But it's all good. I am not going to dwell on my misfortune,'' he ranted.
''At least you are trying to make some sense because your depression of late has been pissing me off. But you went to jail, and it's a pretty big deal, so I allowed you to feel sad in peace,'' Pedro replied.
''Yea. Thanks, but no thanks,'' Greg answered.
While they were moving Greg's items inside his new apartment, Greg almost did something that would have made Pedro suspect him. He was going to lift a huge couch all by himself.
He had already lifted it halfway and saw Pedro's eyes squinting in surprise before he quickly put it down, pretending as if he could not lift it.
''What was I thinking doing that? Come on and give me a hand,'' he said to Pedro casually.
Pedro laughed sarcastically.
''Prison has made you delusional, right? You think you can lift a ton because you had a couple of fights with your fellow inmates and won some,'' he said between chuckles.
Greg smiled sheepishly and grunted.
''It must be the tea I drank earlier that's giving me the impression that you know? I am invincible,'' he said with a laugh.
''Ah, you had better watch out. By the way, all eyes are definitely on you after what you did at the wedding. You might need some real luck and prayer since you are deciding to continue living here. I suggested that you skipped town, but. I mean,'' Pedro said with a shrug.
''I am not leaving my home for anybody. I have forfeited my fiance, and my house, now you want me to exile myself, just because?'' Greg asked.
''It's not just because, anything, Greg,'' Pedro said. ''After all that drama at the wedding, do you think you don't have arch-enemies now? You think because you were able to floor all those gangsta's so you are invincible?'' he added.
''At least I didn't look for trouble,'' Greg said.
Pedro turned his neck slowly to look at Greg while he tried to put his house in order.
''You literally made me drive you to that man's wedding so that you could unleash your venom, yet you say that you didn't look for trouble. Were you invited to that wedding?'' Pedro asked.
''What was he expecting? That I would just let him go with my fiance like that? I'm not a coward, at least I put up a fight to indicate that,'' Greg replied.
''I agree, but, my point is that you looked for trouble. How can you say you didn't?'' Pedro replied.
''I didn't because he took my lady first. In fact, he started this as soon as he made that disgusting advance at her years ago, the one that sent me to jail in the first place. So, he started it. Not me,'' Greg explained.
Pedro shrugged.
''If you say so then. Who am I to say otherwise?'' He asked. ''I'm leaving. I have to see the ladies tonight at the club. Should I pick you up later?'' He asked Greg.
Greg shook his head emphatically.
''Thanks. I am not interested,'' he replied and Pedro scoffed.
''You need not turn yourself into a wallflower because you have been to jail. Step out of your shadow and enjoy life,'' Pedro said on his way out of Greg's house.
''I will enjoy life in solitude. Everybody is not the same,'' Greg said but Pedro slammed the door at him because he was not cut out to listen to Greg's dull point of view.
''Boring ass cunt,'' Pedro said as he let himself inside his car and sped off.
Greg smiled. He was happy to be alone with his thoughts at the moment.
Greg spent a lot of time arranging his new apartment to the taste he wanted, and then he fell asleep. His dreams still haunted him, just like they did when he was in jail. In fact, this time it was a little bit worse because there were more factors that disturbed his mind. Ordinarily, Greg had a phobia of things going drastically wrong in his life. In his dream, he would see Damien Ban grinning scornfully as he burnt down this new house that he just rented. Damien became one of his greatest nightmares and Greg had come to realize and accept the fact. At least, accepting that sort of thing was a good place to be in for a start, rather than fight it, because Greg felt tormented enough while he slept. When he woke up, beads of nervous sweat formed on his forehead, as he got out of bed. The only thing he could think of was taking a walk to calm his mind down, and grocery shopping seemed like a good idea at the time. As had been the norm for the past couple of days, he was strolling to t
Greg leisurely walked away from blocking Laura. He felt so disgusted concerning what was going on. He wished he could yell at her and push her into Mr. Ban's arms, but he was not interested in communicating with her at all. He hated her. ''I said, get into the car,'' Mr. Ban yelled. Laura trembled and hurried into the car, waiting for Mr. Ban to finish with Leo and dole out whatever punishment he had for her for disobeying him. But Mr. Ban would not be Mr. Ban if he did not gloat in front of Greg. ''You still miss your little miss pretty thing?'' He asked Greg with mockery obvious in his voice. Greg didn't respond, nor did he show off any facial expression other than the one Mr. Ban met him there, with. ''I thought I made it clear boy, you should not be anywhere close to her. She's mine now, as you can see,'' Mr. Ban continued to say to Greg with a wicked grin. Greg's thought was that Mr. Ban really owned Laura now, in all senses of the word, owned. Look at the way he comman
''Lucy,'' Greg muttered, although, she didn't hear him.Lucy arranged the grocery in the backseat of her car and then stood up to see that Greg was staring at her in disbelief.''Is everything okay?'' She asked him.''Are you seriously asking me that? Lucy. Who's car is this?'' Greg asked.''Oh,'' Lucy said in realization and laughed. ''Of course, it's mine. Whose would it be? It's with me, right?'' She replied.''Of course? I don't know. It could belong to a boyfriend or husband of yours for all I could care to think of,'' Greg replied.Lucy rolled her eyes.''I don't have a boyfriend, and I definitely do not have a husband,'' she replied, flashing her ring finger at Greg to indicate that it was bare.''Okay. A girlfriend then? Maybe?'' Greg asked mischievously.''What? No, Greg,'' Lucy replied and laughed heartily. There was a brief silence between them as Greg looked at her, expecting her to give him details on how she was able to afford this sort of luxury for herself. ''I have a
Lucy stopped in front of Greg's house and looked at him. Her eyes showed off how much pity she felt for Greg, she could only imagine what he was going through at this time. Recuperating from spending time in jail was not easy. ''Thanks, Lucy. I have to go and sort out these groceries now. I just moved in here today,'' Greg said as he tried to step out of the car. Lucy pulled him back ''Why are you acting as if everything is alright with you? Don't you need help?'' She asked him. ''Help? What sort of help?'' Greg asked her back. He maintained his pride as a man. Ordinarily, if not for what happened to him, Lucy would not have been so much more successful than him. It would only be by a small margin if she were more successful than him. So he tried to make sure that he maintained his dignity. ''Greg. You just left jail. You definitely have been cut off from society for three years. Where do you intend to start picking your life back up from?'' Lucy asked. ''I just got a job, rig
'Dude, what have you been doing with your life? Lucy is rich as fuck. She drives a Porsche,'' Greg said to Pedro with excitement. Pedro sat up from bed abruptly. ''A what?'' He asked Greg. ''A Porsche, bro. She just left my house from dropping my poverty-stricken ass off after grocery shopping,'' Greg replied with humor. Ayra sat up as well, wondering what made Pedro suddenly so excited. ''Is everything okay?'' She whispered to Pedro, but at the moment, Pedro could not think of anything else, other than the fact that he had just confirmed how much of a wuss he had been for the past ten years. He drove a Volkswagen, an old model for that matter, and he was hearing that a girl that used to be his classmate back in college had started to swim in luxury. ''What club are you people going to?'' He asked as he nodded at Ayra to tell her that there was no serious issue and that he was just having a conversation. ''How the fuck would I know? She said she was coming by later to pi
Lucy laughed. ''I don't know where my uncle got these bouncers. They are so wild. You won't believe it that the first time I came to this club after it was opened, they sent me out,'' Lucy said as she stood up, urging Greg to follow her to the entrance to save his friend. Greg looked at her with shock in his expression.''How? Where you not rich yet as at then?'' He asked. Lucy giggled. ''I was. But they were in their element, and I didn't come with one of their usual mafia gangsta bosses, so they were upset, I guess. Most of the females here are usually whores so seeing me on my own upset them,'' Lucy explained.Greg shook his head. ''You don't even know your job. How can you ask just anybody you see to leave? I can pay for everything here,'' Pedro exclaimed at the bouncers and threw a wad of low denomination cash at them. Before Pedro showed up at that club, he withdrew more than half of his entire savings from a nearby ATM, just in case he was met with this sort of embarrassm
Greg's ears twitched, and he glanced at Brian nervously. He didn't know that news of him being in jail had spread that far. Brian was an ex-classmate, but he was a distant acquaintance, so how did he find out about Greg being in jail? "Brian, you shouldn't talk like that. How insensitive," Lucy queried Brian and shook her head aggressively."Lucy, what are you doing with an ex-convict? I bet your uncle won't be happy to see you with this kind of guy. I mean, he looks so off. Have you seen every other person in here? Nobody looks as haggard as him," Brian ranted, while the rest of the crew that was with him, contributed to laughing at Greg. "Okay great then, why don't you go somewhere else where you have your likes there? Hmm? Go over there, look, there are several people as wealthy as you in the room. Leave Greg alone," Lucy said. Meanwhile, Greg was nervously hoping that Brian won't trigger him into making a wild scene in the club. He already felt very uncomfortable being there, h
Brian sneered at Greg after the gangstas left. "Lucy, I maintain my stand that you should do better than this hoodlum. Look at how that worthless gangsta disgraced you just because you are hanging out with this..." Brian whispered aggressively to Lucy."You have made your point Brian, I think you should leave now. I have heard you. Besides, he is no longer in jail, and he was arrested for something unfair. So get lost before you attract another gang this way," Lucy replied to Brian impatiently. Brian glanced at Greg one last time and turned to leave. "Where's Pedro?" Lucy asked when the entire coast became clear."Right here, Lucy Ban," Pedro replied from right behind Lucy. Lucy and Greg turned around hastily to look in the direction from where Pedro's voice sounded. "Pedro, I thought you left, where did you show up from?" Greg asked with surprise. Pedro shook his head gently. "I bet you didn't think that I will hang around all that violence that was brewing? I went away so tha
