Floyd Helix swung the door open and stepped into the study room. There, he found Viper Don sitting at the table with the lights on and his feet on the desk. This surprised him because Viper Don was always so serious when it came to hiding his identity. But tonight, he seemed so nonchalant about it.

Donald smiled as he watched Floyd step into the room. He could recognize the surprised look on his face.

“What the hell is going on?” Floyd asked as he came forward.

He had noticed that the number of guards around the house had increased. Were they expecting an attack? If they were, why would Viper Don invite him over? None of it made any sense.

As he walked forward into the room, he caught the sight of blood on the carpet, which made him frightened. What had happened? There was a lot of explanation Viper Don had to do.

“Good news, Floyd. I’ve found it,” he replied.

Floyd cranked his eyebrow in surprise.

“Found what? Roman’s corpse?”

Viper Don hissed.

“Even better. I’ve found the ma

Roman stared at his chest which was filled with stitches in the mirror. He wondered if he was capable of going through with the plan tonight. Did he have the strength to fight Viper Don? If he lost tonight, he was as good as dead. There would be no coming back from this. Viper Don would have everything that he wanted and not even he will be able to stop him then. If he had to do anything, tonight was the night. Roman clenched his jaws and wore his undershirt buttoning it up. He picked up his suit jacket and wore it next. Now he was ready. He looked gorgeous for tonight’s occasion. His black hair was combed backward and his silver eyes shone as he stared at himself in the mirror. This was all that he wanted. This could be his last night. Or this could be the night of his elevation. It all depended on the outcome. Roman walked downstairs and found Ben stacking a black duffel bag with guns and ammunition. They were not messing around tonight. Ben felt he had something to prove. Befor

The door swung open and Selena was brought into the room by the guard who was gripping her by the hair. Selena was in so much pain and tried to free herself but to no avail. The man’s grip was too strong for her. Donald smiled as he watched Selena being dragged into the room. She was the key to his prize which made her very priceless to him. Nothing could happen to her tonight when she held the keys to his victory. There was nothing that could stop him from getting what he wanted, and her struggle was only going to make things harder. “Thank you, Tyson.” The guard nodded and stepped out of the room. Selena held her head as she tried to wiggle away the pain that was running through her veins. She was tired and hungry and was hoping that this nightmare would end soon. But it was only the beginning. She still had to help Viper Don locate whatever treasure the map hid. Selena felt that the treasure would be enough to buy every entrepreneur business in the city. This would make Viper

“Did you hear that?” Adam asked as he cocked his gun. Eric clenched his jaws and nodded. He was staring at the estate now where the sound of a gunshot had come from. Something was going on there, and they had to go in and find out what it was. They were cops. It was in their nature to respond to the sound of gunfire. “Are you sure Behrens isn’t going undercover to solve this case?”Eric turned to Adam in shock. “This guy tried to kill you about three hours ago, and here you are still trying to support him?”Adam stared at his gun before turning to Eric and shrugging his shoulders. “All I’m saying is that we need to be sure about what we are doing.”Eric shook his head. He didn’t have time for this. There could be people in there who could need their help. There was no way he was going to sit here and argue about which side Behrens was truly on. He opened the door and stepped out of it. “You could sit here and think about them while I go in and help people that actually need sav

A black SUV pulled up to Viper Don’s estate parking just a few meters away from the gate and a police vehicle. A figure stepped out of the passenger’s seat all dressed in a black suit. It was Roman Lacroix. Roman straightened his suit and looked around the empty street. It was weirdly quiet around here tonight. This was all the signs that something back was about to happen. The back seat door opened and Florence stepped out of it in all her glory. She was holding two guns in her hands. This made Roman smirk. “It seems you’re ready for this,” he said, folding his arms. Florence scoffed at him. “I still think this is too dangerous for you,” Roman said, coming towards her. “Let me and Ben handle this.”Florence arched an eyebrow at him. “There’s nothing that you’re going to say that is going to keep me out of this Roman. I’m going in.”Roman clenched his jaws. “You should listen to her, Roman,” Ben said, stepping out of the driver’s door. “I think she can handle herself.”Roman l

As Florence rushed into the living room, a bullet whizzed past her head which brought her to an abrupt halt. Roman who was behind her joined her, stopping. It was then he realized that they were being shot at. Roman immediately pulled her to the ground, landing on his back. Florence fell on his stomach and turned to him. Roman flashed her a smile and she rolled her eyes. “Be careful,” he said. “I am,” she said standing up. The shot was fired once more and it prompted Roman to find another hiding spot. He crawled towards one of the couches in the living room and hid by it. The shots came towards him. It seemed the house was heavily guarded by Viper Don’s men. Roman felt like they knew they were coming. There was no way that Viper Don’s house would be this heavily guarded twenty-four-seven. Roman waited until the guard stopped to reload. Then, he pulled out of the couch and aimed at the guard, before firing at him. The butler pierced through his skull and the guard dropped to the f

Eric was startled by the sounds of the gunshots. He had been searching a room when he picked up the sounds of the gunshots. It wasn’t just one but many like there was a war going on downstairs. He had separated from Adam a while ago and he feared that he might have gotten into trouble. The thought of Adam being killed frightened. Adam hadn’t been sure about doing this without back up but he had managed to convince him into doing so. Eric left the room and immediately he was caught by a guard. The guard immediately pulled out his firearm. But it was already too late. Eric already had his gun in his hand and he pulled the trigger at the guard. The bullet caught the guard in the chest and he dropped to the floor dead. Eric stared at the man on the floor realizing that he was going to attract a lot of guards. But that shouldn’t seem like a problem. They were all probably fighting whoever it was. He had to find Adam. That was the only thing on his mind. And he prayed that Adam would be

Roman slammed both feet on the chest of the guard. The guard flew and hit his back on the wall before falling to the ground. As Roman stood back to his feet, a bullet whizzed past his ear. He turned around and pulled the trigger at the guard behind him. The bullet caught the guard in the chest and he dropped dead. The hallway was clear now. All they had to do was go about Viper Don. There was no way he was going to let him escape him. Not tonight. They had already wasted too much time and it was going to be long before the painkillers faded away. When that did, he would be powerless. “Are you okay?” Florence asked as she came to meet him. Roman nodded. “We need to move. We can’t let them escape.”And with that, they headed through the hallway and arrived at the door. Florence's face was filled with horror as she realized where the door led to. “No! No! No!” She said as she rushed towards it. “What is it?” Roman asked, confused. Ben just arrived behind him reloading his gun. The

He was eager to see who had interrupted his grieving session. He had been to let all the pain out. The guilt he felt for watching his mother die and also not being there for his parents while they were alone hit him hard. He just needed that space but he wasn’t going to get that now. As he came closer, the figure sat at the couch with a tea cup in their hand. Roman squinted his eyes as he tried to recognize who it was. The figure finally turned around and faced Roman. Roman was immediately shocked by what he saw. “Nuo?” He called in surprise. Nuo Feng, who was dressed in her customary robes, rose from the couch and smiled at him. Roman was in disbelief. The last time had seen her was when he had visited Shanghai. That was because he had been hurt badly in a confrontation with Viper Don’s men which had left him paralyzed. But

With the bouquet in his hands, he stepped forward and stood before the headstone of both his parents. With a smile, he picked out one of the yellow roses and placed it on his mother’s grave.“Hello, mum. I’m back,” he said with a smile. He moved to the next headstone and dropped another flower on it. This was his father’s. Roman clenched his jaws as he stared at his father’s headstone. He could feel the guilt consume him as he looked at it. The only reason he remembered him was the pictures in their old house, and the video of him leaving th

Roman stretched on the bed as he woke up before opening his eyes. He looked around and realized that the morning sunlight had washed into the room, illuminating the bed on which he lay. Last night was amazing. After winning the award for the entrepreneur of the year, he had come back to the suite with Florence where they had sex. Just as she was about to climax, she said the magic words. I love you. Roman didn’t know what to say back then, but he felt he had an obligation to say what he felt about yet too. And he was going to tell her when they had breakfast. He turned to the other side of the bed to meet her only to find it empty. This startled him. He rose from the bed and looked around the room. There was no trace left of her being her last night. That was awkward for him. Roman rose from the bed stark naked and walked towards the bathroom. He opened the door and stepped into it. He found water droplets on the floor which meant that she had been here awhile ago. He reached

Roman Lacroix opened the door of his suite and stepped inside. On the other hand was his award which he couldn’t quite wrap his head around how he had won it. He had been stunned when his name was mentioned. After making a speech, he received the award which made him feel better. That was two awards he had won now, but who was counting? He wondered if the universe was finally paying him back from all the torture he had undergone at the hands of Viper Don. But that didn’t matter much to him. If that was the case, then he would gladly accept it. The door of the suite was closed and he turned around to see Florence coming in with her purse in her hand. She still looked amazing, and he was surprised that he hadn’t noticed that until now. She was amazing in her black dress which exposed her cleavage. Roman found it hard to look away. Florence noticed Roman looking at her and she couldn’t help but smirk. They had decided to spend the night in suits and travel back to New York the

He wondered what he could do there. “What is it?” Roman asked. “I think it is for you,” Ben replied, handing over the envelope to him. Roman, confused, got the envelope and immediately tore the seal. He reached into the envelope and brought out a letter from it. After reading for a few moments, he was left in awe. Ben noticed the change in Roman’s facial expression which made him more curious about what could be in the letter. “What is it?” Roman read the letter one more time before turning to him. “It’s an invitation,” he said. “To where?” Ben asked. Roman turned back to the letter. “It says here, Dear Roman Lacroix, amazed by the works you have carried out in your hometown, Brooklyn. • CHAPTER 195

Roman walked through the hallway of the precinct as he headed towards the other entrance. He had contemplated this for days, and he had finally come to a decision—he was going to get the key to the city. He deserved it. Oliver had made him realize this. After saving his life on multiple occasions, he realized that there were a lot of things that he had done that went unnoticed. He had been able to take three powerful men down with Viper Don being the strongest. It hadn’t been easy, but he had done it. The last mission made him feel that he could do anything if he put his mind to it. Saving Susan from the mighty drug lord, Frederic El Mataso, made him realize that there was more to his capabilities than he knew. Eric and Adam were waiting nervously just as the mayor went to the podium to give a speech. They were still inside the building waiting to be summoned. It was a big day for them, but that didn’t stop Eric from wearing his trademark black leather jacket. Adam on the other ha

Brooklyn, New York. 6:45 AM.“Well, that was fun,” Oliver said as they stepped off the jet. They were greeted by the morning’s golden light which washed upon them as they walked out of the hanger. Oliver still had the black duffel bag in his hand but it didn’t contain ammunition anymore. It was money. A whole lot of it. They had cashed out on all their artifacts last night and made their way with the excess of it. Roman was calm as he walked out of the hangar. He was dressed in a new black suit and his hair was combed neatly. He looked all refreshed. Last night was hilarious, and it was hard to believe that it had happened. They had made their way with one of the most expensive jewels ever, and all Roman did was blackmail him. They couldn’t say that Frederic El Mataso wouldn’t come after them but who cared? They had hit the jackpot again. Roman had the ring in his hand and he stared at it as he made his way towards the crew. At a distance, a black Cadillac was heading towards them

Frederic El Mataso wasn’t fazed by the sight of the guns being pointed at him. He had been through much more than that. What he was worried about was the men at the table with him who were already terrified at the sight of the men. “If you don’t want to end up like the guards there, I strongly suggest you all leave,” Roman ordered. The men looked at each other before running out of the room. The door shut behind them and they were left alone in the room with Susan and Frederic. Susan rose to her feet and went immediately to Oliver, pulling him into a hug. Roman, on the other hand, lowered his gun and walked to the poker table, sitting on the other end of it. He had one of his guns pointed at Frederic who still didn’t seem fazed by this. “I know who you are,” Frederic said. “You’re the famous Roman Lacroix.”Roman smiled at that. Sometimes, he forgot that he was known throughout the country. First, it was the Russian mafia leader, now it was El Mataso. He was making a name for him

“Bring her in here,” Frederic El Mataso ordered. The door opened and Susan was dragged into the room. Her hair was ruffled and her face was drenched in sweat. She had just spent the whole day in the basement and now she was about to be given a death sentence. The room had a poker table with men seated around it, Frederic included. Frederic El Mataso was a plump man with a weird mustache and heavy eyebrows. He was dressed in a black suit with his bloated stomach trying its best to stay in the white undershirt he wore. There was only one thing that caught Susan’s eye. It was his ring. The ring was glowing as he rubbed his chin with a grin on his face. “Bring her closer,” he ordered. The guard dragged her on the floor as he brought her to him. Susan was kneeling before Frederic now who was still rubbing his chin as he stared down at her. “You piece of shit! You think you’re going to get away with this?” She yelled. “She’s a feisty one,” he said to the men at the table who chuckle
