“Roman?” Selena called as his hands left her mouth.

“Yes. It’s me,” Roman said looking around.

He was lucky to have arrived in time. As he watched Selena step out of the bus, he noticed two men who had been following her. It didn’t take him long to realize that the men were working for the cartel. He had immediately positioned himself in the alley and waited for her, hoping that the men wouldn’t get to her before him.

Selena couldn’t believe that she would be relieved to see Roman. He had saved her from being abducted. She now felt guilty for doubting him and telling him to leave him alone. It was good that someone was watching her back even if she didn’t want that.

“Don’t worry, you're safe now,” he assured her.

Selena nodded at that. Her heartbeat had returned to normal and she was finally feeling herself once more. She couldn’t be more thankful for that.

“Come on, let’s get you home,” Roman said, grabbing her hand.

As they headed out the alley, five men converged at the en

“What?” The Viper Don asked, slamming his fist on the table. The man who was standing before him now was aching in pain. He was one of the guards who had just been beaten up by Roman Lacroix. After Roman left with Selena, he hurried Jack to let the boss know about this. “She escaped, sir,” the man said with fear in his voice. The Viper Don was infuriated by that. How could that have been possible? He had sent five men after hee which he was certain would be enough to get Selena. She was crucial in finding the artifacts that her father had stolen from him. Without her, the artifacts would be gone forever. “How could she have evaded five men?” He questioned. “Sir. She had help from someone. A man,” the man continued. The Viper Don raised an eyebrow at that. How could he help her? It could be someone who was after the artifacts too. The Viper Don wondered who would be after the artifacts. If they were people looking for his artifacts too then he had to kill them before they had the

Three black vans pulled over at the house of Jermaine. A black-tinted Cadillac followed shortly after. The vans opened up and armed men stepped out of the vehicles heading towards the yellow tape that sealed off the area. It was night now and everywhere was calm. The sudden erratic movements of the men would have caught a few eyes by now but it was late at night. One of the men stepped out from the front of the van. He had short blonde hair and was wearing a bulletproof vest with an AR in his hand. As the Cadillac pulled over beside the last van, the man walked towards it. A guard dressed in a black suit stepped out of the front seat and opened the door. The man with the AR walked towards the car. He stopped by the window not wanting to meet the figure at the backseat. “Jean Brogman, is that right?” Viper Don’s voice sounded. “Yes sir,” the man replied, nodding. “I’m hoping your men know exactly what to do,”Jean nodded once more. “Yes sir.”“Then get to work and find me those a

Roman Lacroix and Lydia Ryhs stepped out of the Lamborghini and looked at the building before them. They were both staring at an automobile company. Roman was surprised when he received a proposal from the company to inspect it for a possible investment deal. It turned out that Lydia had been working on this while she had been away. Roman had almost doubted her and her abilities. But yet again, she had surprised him. “Here it is,” Lydia said to him. “Helix Automobiles.”Roman nodded at that. “What are we waiting for?” He asked, walking towards it. Lydia chuckled and went after him. They walked into the building, and surprisingly, they were welcomed by the whole company’s staff who greeted them. After that, they all dispersed and one of them, a man feeder smartly in a purple suit walked up to them. “Hello, welcome to Helix Automobiles. I’ll be your guide for the day,” the man introduced. Roman turned to Lydia who nodded at him. “Fine. So where do we start?” Roman asked. The man

David Troyes gave Lilian his hand as she stepped out of the car. The paparazzi couldn’t stop flashing their cameras at them. They were finally here at the party. Lilian was still finding it hard to believe that Roman would invite them to a party. It didn’t make any sense. She was very sure he hated them. Why would he choose to let them in? It was confusing. “Thank you, David.”David kissed her knuckles and she giggled. “You’re welcome.”“Shall we?” He asked. Lilian nodded at him and they stepped into the event. It was big and she could see numerous people in there. At the stage were cars that were spinning in a slow revolution. It was obvious that Roman had gotten an automobile contract. While he was expanding, they were shrinking. It wasn’t going to be long until they had nothing left. Roman was slowly getting what he wanted. Their company. He was on his way to the revenge he had sought so badly. He had liquidated their stocks in the market making it worth less than a peanut. What

“Who’s this?” Roman asked but he then realized the line was dead. He took the phone from his ear and turned to Lydia with his face livid with confusion. Lydia was dissatisfied that the feeling was mutual. “Who was that?” She asked.“I don’t know,” Roman replied, placing the phone back into his breast pocket. “Where are you going?” Lydia asked. Roman was walking towards the door. He didn’t answer her. All Lydia could do was stare with a glass of champagne in her hand. She couldn’t believe that Roman was going to abandon his party. And worst of all, he wasn’t going to tell her what it was about. Could she call Ben about this? That wasn’t a good idea. Ben would tell her that she was overthinking. And he would tell her to keep faith in Roman and trust him—bla bla bla. It was hard to do any of that when Rylan barely trusted her. He was always being sneaky at times even though she had done enough to earn his trust. To her, it was somewhat tiring. She hoped that he would see that and w

Roman had left in a hurry for a reason she knew nothing about. He wouldn’t tell her. The crowd at the party was starting to reduce. Everybody was tired and began leaving slowly. Lydia didn’t know what to do. Where the hell was Roman and what was he doing?Lydia moved away from the crowd and drank the last of her champagne. She was tired of waiting. She was going to look for Roman. She didn’t care if he got mad at her for interrupting. He always found a way to get mad at her anyway. This time wasn’t going to be any different. Lydia placed the glass of champagne on a moving tray and wiped her lips dry. She headed out of the party and stepped into the cold night. All the paparazzi that had flooded the event at the beginning were gone now. The red carpet which had been buzzing a few hours ago was

Roman Lacroix opened his eyes slowly as he stared at his environment. It was dark and cold. He felt like he was freezing. Where was he? And what the hell happened? Everything came back to him in a flash. He had received a strange call to meet outside. That had turned into a trap step set by The Viper Don. He had sent men after him to abduct him. Roman had tried his best to fight them all but they were too many. They all ganged up on him and got him on his knees. As Roman tried to move his head, he felt a sharp stabbing pain at the back of his head. He grunted in pain as he tried to get up from the floor. He reached for his hands and realized that they were being held apart. What was this?“I think he’s coming around,” a voice said. The voice was familiar and Roman tried to picture where he had heard it from. As he thought hard, the stabbing pain came back. It felt like his head had been split with an ax. He was eager to see who had interrupted his grieving session. He had been to let all the pain out. The guilt he felt for watching his mother die and also not being there for his parents while they were alone hit him hard. He just needed that space but he wasn’t going to get that now. As he came closer, the figure sat at the couch with a tea cup in their hand. Roman squinted his eyes as he tried to recognize who it was. The figure finally turned around and faced Roman. Roman was immediately shocked by what he saw. “Nuo?” He called in surprise. Nuo Feng, who was dressed in her customary robes, rose from the couch and smiled at him. Roman was in disbelief. The last time had seen her was when he had visited Shanghai. That was because he had been hurt badly in a confrontation with Viper Don’s men which had left him paralyzed. But

Roman stretched on the bed as he woke up before opening his eyes. He looked around and realized that the morning sunlight had washed into the room, illuminating the bed on which he lay. Last night was amazing. After winning the award for the entrepreneur of the year, he had come back to the suite with Florence where they had sex. Just as she was about to climax, she said the magic words. I love you. Roman didn’t know what to say back then, but he felt he had an obligation to say what he felt about yet too. And he was going to tell her when they had breakfast. He turned to the other side of the bed to meet her only to find it empty. This startled him. He rose from the bed and looked around the room. There was no trace left of her being her last night. That was awkward for him. Roman rose from the bed stark naked and walked towards the bathroom. He opened the door and stepped into it. He found water droplets on the floor which meant that she had been here awhile ago. He reached

He wondered if the universe was finally paying him back from all the torture he had undergone at the hands of Viper Don. But that didn’t matter much to him. If that was the case, then he would gladly accept it. The door of the suite was closed and he turned around to see Florence coming in with her purse in her hand. She still looked amazing, and he was surprised that he hadn’t noticed that until now. She was amazing in her black dress which exposed her cleavage. Roman found it hard to look away. He reached into the envelope and brought out a letter from it. After reading for a few moments, he was left in awe. Ben noticed the change in Roman’s facial expression which made him more curious about what could be in the letter. “What is it?” Roman read the letter one more time before turning to him. “It’s an invitation,” he said. “To where?” Ben asked. Roman walked through the hallway of the precinct as he headed towards the other entrance. He had contemplated this for days, and he had finally come to a decision—he was going to get the key to the city. He deserved it. Oliver had made him realize this. After saving his life on multiple occasions, he realized that there were a lot of things that he had done that went unnoticed. He had been able to take three powerful men down with Viper Don being the strongest. It hadn’t been easy, but he had done it. The last mission made him feel that he could do anything if he put his mind to it. Saving Susan from the mighty drug lord, Frederic El Mataso, made him realize that there was more to his capabilities than he knew. Eric and Adam were waiting nervously just as the mayor went to the podium to give a speech. They were still inside the building waiting to be summoned. It was a big day for them, but that didn’t stop Eric from wearing his trademark black leather jacket. Adam on the other ha

Brooklyn, New York. 6:45 AM.“Well, that was fun,” Oliver said as they stepped off the jet. They were greeted by the morning’s golden light which washed upon them as they walked out of the hanger. Oliver still had the black duffel bag in his hand but it didn’t contain ammunition anymore. It was money. A whole lot of it. They had cashed out on all their artifacts last night and made their way with the excess of it. Roman was calm as he walked out of the hangar. He was dressed in a new black suit and his hair was combed neatly. He looked all refreshed. Last night was hilarious, and it was hard to believe that it had happened. They had made their way with one of the most expensive jewels ever, and all Roman did was blackmail him. They couldn’t say that Frederic El Mataso wouldn’t come after them but who cared? They had hit the jackpot again. Roman had the ring in his hand and he stared at it as he made his way towards the crew. At a distance, a black Cadillac was heading towards them

  • CHAPTER 193

Frederic El Mataso wasn’t fazed by the sight of the guns being pointed at him. He had been through much more than that. What he was worried about was the men at the table with him who were already terrified at the sight of the men. “If you don’t want to end up like the guards there, I strongly suggest you all leave,” Roman ordered. The men looked at each other before running out of the room. The door shut behind them and they were left alone in the room with Susan and Frederic. Susan rose to her feet and went immediately to Oliver, pulling him into a hug. Roman, on the other hand, lowered his gun and walked to the poker table, sitting on the other end of it. He had one of his guns pointed at Frederic who still didn’t seem fazed by this. “I know who you are,” Frederic said. “You’re the famous Roman Lacroix.”Roman smiled at that. Sometimes, he forgot that he was known throughout the country. First, it was the Russian mafia leader, now it was El Mataso. He was making a name for him

“Bring her in here,” Frederic El Mataso ordered. The door opened and Susan was dragged into the room. Her hair was ruffled and her face was drenched in sweat. She had just spent the whole day in the basement and now she was about to be given a death sentence. The room had a poker table with men seated around it, Frederic included. Frederic El Mataso was a plump man with a weird mustache and heavy eyebrows. He was dressed in a black suit with his bloated stomach trying its best to stay in the white undershirt he wore. There was only one thing that caught Susan’s eye. It was his ring. The ring was glowing as he rubbed his chin with a grin on his face. “Bring her closer,” he ordered. The guard dragged her on the floor as he brought her to him. Susan was kneeling before Frederic now who was still rubbing his chin as he stared down at her. “You piece of shit! You think you’re going to get away with this?” She yelled. “She’s a feisty one,” he said to the men at the table who chuckle
