HIS RESURGENCE CHAPTER 21Xavier slowly opened his eyes, his vision blurry. He blinked severally and tried to sit up. The searing pain he felt jogged his memory. He remembered the meeting and then going back to the hotel. He remembered the car that followed them to the airport, and then the gunshot. He remembered Scarlet and the frightened look on her face.“Be careful. You had a bullet in your stomach.” Scarlet said.He sat up with difficulty and turned to look at her. Her eyes were swollen and had dark circles underneath. HIS RESURGENCE CHAPTER 22“So, what you’re telling me is that, Dante Butera was killed in the police station and nobody knows who did it? How is that even possible?” Don Alfredo asked in disbelief.“Nothing came up on the security footage. The person who brought in the bottle of water was in the police uniform alright, but he wasn’t one of them. No one knew him. I guess with all the commotion, nobody noticed that he was a stranger. The guy had a face cap on, and he skillfully avoided the cameras. He’s vanished into thin air.” Xavier replied,devastated.“And are you sure Dante was telling the truth, that he wasn’t responsible for the attack in Argentina?”“I don’t think he was lying. We had his family, and the police promised to take care of them. But if he didn’t do it, it only means there’s someone else out there who wants me dead. HIS RESURGENCE CHAPTER 23“Monday mornings suck.” Scarlet exclaimed as she sank into her chair. She rubbed her aching foot and relished the relief she felt. Monday’s were usually busy. She had had to fill in for Xavier in some meetings while he attended others.She peeled into Xavier’s office to see if he was back too. He was in his office. He stood close to the widow, one hand in his pocket. He always took that posture when he answered the phone.“Sure dad, I can come over for dinner. It’s been too busy at the office, I rarely eat dinner at home.” He said“Then it’s settled then. I’ll ask Margaret to make something delicious. Bring scarlet along. I haven’t spoken to her in a while.”“Umm..sure.” Xavier replied reluctantly.“Whats with the reply? Do you not like her?” Alfredo asked.“She’s good at her job, I give her that. She can be annoying sometimes though.” Xavier replied Don Alfredo let out a laugh. “Well I’m glad you both are getting along. See you at dinner then, both of you

HIS RESURGENCE CHAPTER 24Leah grit walked into the fairly dark room. It was broad daylight but the curtains in the room was drawn. From what she could see, it was some sort of study. There were lots of books on several.shelves, a desk and chairs.“Have a seat.” She heard someone say. It was a woman. She was seated at a corner where it would be impossible to make out her face. She could tell from her silhouette that it was a middle aged woman, probably in her early fourties. She looked like a rich woman and her aura exuded power. She sat down, her hands placed on her laps.“You know why you’re here don’t you?” The woman asked.“Yes ma’am.” She replied.“And what exactly is that, tell me?”“I am going to be the face of your newly acquired company. I will only act and make decisions when you instruct me to. I’m the boss on the outside, and I answer to you.”“Very good. You’re a smart one. There’s a deal I need you to acquire. You went to business school so you’re not entirely useless.

The banquet was attended by only the privileged.Xavier had conducted his homework. It was difficult for J&K, a young company with little financial support, to gain such a reputation or grow to this level in only a few short years.He arrived prepared since he knew that closing this contract and collaborating with them would benefit his company.Everyone was mingling in the hallway and exchanging pleasantries when a big surprise appeared. "At least we have someone to share the risks with besides, the benefits supersedes the disadvantages."Xavier wasn't at all pleased with the three way partnership but Don Alfredo was right.He relaxed in the car and let his thoughts drift but was soon brought out when she felt a head on his shoulder. That was when he remembered Scarlet was in the car too, seated by him.She had fallen asleep. She must have been exhausted.He looked at her but by then she was fast asleep.She complain about how very uncomfortable her dress was and had stopped to change. She had on a white shirt and jean skirt and her hair was pulled back into a ponytail.She was looking very adorable now, curled up on the back seat with her head on his shoulder .His heart fluttered at the sight. HIS RESURGENCE CHAPTER 27Scarlet tapped gently on the door and opened it. She had gone to get Xavier some coffee. She placed them gently on the table.“How can you drink two cups of coffee? Too much caffeine isn’t healthy you know?” Scarlet teased.“I’ll need a lot of it today. We have a meeting with silicon housing. Mr Peter has sent in the project and his plans. We need to meet up and decide how best to go about the project.”Scarlet rolled her eyes in exasperation. “So we’re meeting with Leah grit. This is going to be a long meeting.”“It seems you don’t like her very much. Do you know her?” Xavier asked.“We went to college together. We were roommates. Let’s just say it wasn’t a great experience living with her.”Xavier sat up and crossed one leg over the other, his interest piqued. “Really?
