HIS RESURGENCE
Chapter 4
Those words were not ordinary words to Xavier, he was tempted to leave but he knew he owned nothing to his name and if he dared to leave, his father would definitely make sure that he would bear the consequences.
“What do you want?” Xavier finally asked. He turned towards his father, staring at him almost in tears. He has done his best, he has done everything just to please him and now he is exhausted.
All he had wanted was to be loved like a son, to be treated like he meant something to them but Alas! Who was he kidding?! He can never measure up to the golden boy; his step brother, Alexander Whitlock.
“Go back inside your room and ponder about your life, I want you to think hard and think of the effect of last night and how it has affected us” his father said.
“Exactly what I intend to do but I intend to do that outside, I would be back soon” Xavier replied. Left for him he would have left the house but he couldn’t, not yet, until he finds a means of living he couldn’t leave the Whitlock’s mansion no matter how much they have hurt him.
Benjamin Whitlock stared at him and finally had a second thought then nodded.
Xavier left the house in anger, he was not thinking anymore all he wanted was to let out his pain and sorrow on something, he wished to voice it out, for someone to listen to him just for once.
He could still feel his father’s gaze watching him but he did not care anymore. Right now he was hurt and needed to nurse his hurting heart.
All he could think of was leaving everything associated with the Whitlock family behind but he couldn’t, it was like his life was tied to them.
He would have gone to where his car was parked and driven away but he remembered that he had rammed it into the bar last night.
There were other cars that were in the garage but he didn’t want to drive them anymore since they were with the Whitlock family name.
He tapped his pockets hoping to find his phone but he couldn't find it. With all the ruckus of last night, he may have left it somewhere, probably in his car , he wasn't sure anymore.
Xavier gritted his teeth in annoyance as he remembered the entire situation, he just stormed off, stopped a cab and went away. Away from everything, at least for the meantime.

Xavier found himself once again in a bar doing more drinking and reminiscing.
He had the intention of eating since he had had so little to eat the previous day, but yet more bottles were sprawled on the table where he sat.
"Another bottle please!"
His grumpy voice alerted the waiter who did as he requested by bringing another bottle for him to drink.
Xavier was short of options at the moment, he had every intention to just leave everything behind him and walk away for a fresh start.
But where will he start from? He had nothing else other than the Whitlock's name to his name aside from that he was poor as a church mouse.
If he chooses to leave, the only place he could think of would be the street since he won’t be able to provide a roof over his head. ‘What about feeding?’
"Jeez! I feel like a prodigal son right now,” he laughed after his statement. He was so drunk that he couldn’t differentiate between his two fingers.
“The prodigal son was actually given his inheritance before he left but I’ve got none!” He yelled, startling those who sat on the next table.
“Jeez! My head hurts"
He slumped his head defeatedly on the table and resigned to sleep.
***
When Xavier had woken up it was past midday. His head was still throbbing from the headache, but not as much as before.
He managed to stagger out after paying for the drinks. He supported his head with his hands as he was feeling his head was too big for his neck to carry.
He stopped a cab and ordered to be taken to a restaurant where he managed to get a burger for his grumbling stomach before he left for his home.
The home that felt like prison to him.
With a heavy heart, he arrived back at the Whitlock mansion.
He stood outside for a few minutes contemplating his actions, still indecisive of if he should go in or not.
Coming back would mean he is ready to accept his father's decision despite how much it will hurt him.
He consoled himself with the fact that he had no choice and no place to go should he leave.
With a heavy heart.
Xavier walked back in ,but he did not find his father in the sitting room like where he had left him.
It was a good thing, since he was not ready to face the man who had fathered him yet again.
"I knew you'd be back!” The cold voice of Mr. Benjamin Whitlock met Xavier’s ears, immediately his stomach churned.
"Admit it Xavier, without me you are absolutely nothing. I see you have come to see that now, haven't you?"
Mr. Benjamin said with a huge smile on his face as he walked into the living room to meet Xavier.
Xavier could feel the pride and arrogance from his fathers words and it annoyed him even more yet it was so saddening to him because it was true.
"I..." Xavier tried to say but was interrupted abruptly by his father.
"Not a word anymore Xavier! Or you can just leave and rot in the dump where you belong. " Mr Benjamin chided.
Xavier could not say anything but just looked at his father and tried not to break down in his front. He refused to let him see him cry after what they had done to him, he wouldn’t let them know how deep the scar of the pain he inflicted on him ran.
His father entered the room and then went back to sit on his favorite chair and from there he looked at Xavier.
"Just look at how much of a mess you are Xavier. If it wasn't for the fact that you are my son I would have given you to the dogs for your worthlessness but that would be an insult to the dog as they wouldn’t get anything useful from you" Mr Benjamin said and his expression contorted like he was staring at a cow dung.
Still yet Xavier said nothing, but stood there and took all his father’s insult.
"Well I'm glad you are back, heaven knows the shame you will bring to the family if I let you do as you please. And since you are here of your own accord, it goes without saying that you will do everything I say.”
Mr Benjamin reminded him again that Xavier was living under his mercy.
He continued.
"I have taken care of the mess you made last night and I hope for your sake, this kind of thing does not repeat itself again. For if it does, I wouldn’t be this nice”
When there was no response from Xavier, Mr Benjamin glared at him and Xavier nodded in understanding.
"So back to what was at hand, Clara will marry your brother Alexander in a week and to prepare for this. You will invite the Prime Minister and all our business associates. I want a grand wedding for this event, it will be broadcasted worldwide to showcase our family influence and also a means to get more influential families on our side”
Xavier hearing his father say it again made his heart bleed and hatred brewed inside of him. He hated his father for coming up with the idea, he hated Alexander for agreeing to it and he hated Clara for accepting their proposal. It still felt like a dream to him that the woman he loved would be the one to betray him, her betrayal hurt more than any other.
'But what would have made Clara choose to marry his brother just days away from their marriage?'
'Had she been having an affair with him even whilst they were engaged?’
'Did his father threaten her or win her over with money?'
'Just what would have made her behave like this?’
Xavier kept thinking and with eaCh thought he was at the verge of bursting into tears. The only thing that made sense to him was that Clara and Alex had been involved even before their marriage was announced.
"Are you listening to me?"
His fathers voice drew his attention back to the room and he nodded weakly.
“I’m all ears father”
"Do you have anything to say Xavier?” His father asked.
Xavier shook his head since there was nothing he could say to his father at that point, besides he was exhausted already and just needed to get away from their toxicity.
"Good, now go in, you have a wedding to prepare for, make it like it is yours” Mr. Benjamin smiled complacently.
Xavier nodded and then walked upstairs to his room, he got in then shut the door and that was when the tears dropped finally from his eyes.
HIS RESURGENCEChapter 5It was already a week after Xavier had returned back to the mansion and had accepted his fathers decision. A week which means it was the day Alex and Clara were getting married.Alexander his brother stood on the altar with the priest dressed in the most regal and expensive suit and smiling waiting for Clara; his soon to be wife to join him for their vows.Clara walked in, beautifully dressed In white with a charming smile on her face with her father alongside her as they approached the altar. The crowd were awestruck at the beautiful wedding scenery and kept clapping and cheering at how beautiful and handsome the couples looked. He had come to terms with his father’s decision, but still watching it did not make it any easier for him, his heart was bleeding as he watched them.'That was the woman he was to marry ' he thought as he looked at Clara and how beautiful she was in that white elegant dress.'It should have been me standing there and not him' his hea
HIS RESURGENCEChapter 6Xavier was angry as he moved away from his father and the Smith family. His father hadn’t only ruined his life but had also made a marriage arrangement for him without his consent. He clenched his fists as he kept on walking. He bumped into someone without noticing as he was walking blindly, deep in thoughts."I'm sorry”He said without taking note of whom he bumped into, all he was centered on was leaving the premises. He snatched a drink from the tray carried by one of the waiters passing by, he gulped down its contents and then dropped the glass back on the tray. Xavier didn't care what people were saying about him anymore, he just wanted to leave. He could still hear their snickers and murmurs but those were the least of his problems at the moment. He undid his tie and unbuttoned his suit as if to release the tension and anger he was feeling. Why should he care about how he looked when it's not his wedding besides no one would notice him anyways aside fr
HIS RESURGENCEChapter 7 Xavier arrived home looking tired and really out of it. He did not understand how he was the prime suspect when there were thousands of people who might have set the building on fire.He wasn’t surprised to see his father waiting for him when he arrived, perhaps his father was waiting for his arrival in order to rain insults on him.Xavier greeted his father and was about heading to his room when his father stopped him."Xavier, did you do it?" Mr. Benjamin asked with a low serious voice Xavier was literally surprised and disappointed at the question but then what was he expecting? That his father would believe he didn’t do it? What a hope!. They saw him as nothing more than the black sheep of the family."What do you think?" Xavier asked as he stared at the man who is more of a sperm donor than a father to him. "Did you do it Xavier?" Mr Benjamin asked again, this time with a harder tone and Xavier could hear the hinge of anger in his tone."No, I didn’t,
HIS RESURGENCE CHAPTER 8Xavier woke up to the beeping of the ECG. He slowly opened his eyes and tried to make sense of the unfamiliar environment he was in. He looked at his hands and saw that a drip had been connected to his veins.“Ughh. I’ve been winding up in hospitals lately .“ he thought to himself. But this time around, he felt like shit. His head pounded as though he had been hit by a truck. And then the memory came flooding in.He remembered running into David and getting an envelop from him. He remembered opening the envelop and being run over by a car.“What the hell. Here I was thinking my life couldn’t get any worse”The door opened and a nurse walked in.“You’re awake” the nurse stated, a hint of relief in her voice.“ how long have I been here?” He asked impatiently “ it’s been three days sir. You’ve been unconscious for three days . You were hit by a car and you fell pretty hard . The impact was quite severe but you recovered quickly .“Xavier stopped listening whe
HIS RESURGENCE CHAPTER 9Xavier woke up with a splitting headache. His head was throbbing violently and he suppressed the urge to throw up. That feeling was very familiar to him now as he had gone to bed drunk on many occasions. He opened his eyes and was greeted with a blinding light streaking inside the room from the window panes. He winced and sat up. That’s when he realized he was in a strange place.“Hmm. At least it’s not a hospital this time.” he thought and chuckled at his sad joke.“You’re awake”. He heard a voice sayHe turned around startled and saw a vaguely familiar face staring back at him.“Here’s some water. There’s coffee too if you’d prefer that”. The man said.“Water will do,thank you”. He replied and collected the cup from him.“Oh,you do have some manners after all” Alfredo replied with a slight chuckle. That’s when he remembered how they had met. He remembered screaming and venting at him at the pub the previous night and how he had cried. He remembered the old
HIS RESURGENCE CHAPTER 10It has been a week since Xavier’s meeting with Lisa. The day he dreaded was not so far away anymore. He did not want to marry Lisa. He knew he would never be happy if he did. On one hand, he was trying to deal with his own family treating him like a piece of trash. Lisa’s family wasn’t any different. Mr Smith already made it clear what he thought about him during his last visit and even at his brother’s wedding reception. To them he was just a worthless kid whose only good quality was having the Whitlock name. He was nothing more than an inconvenience they had to put up with for the sake of the sake of their business.Xavier’s mind wandered as he dressed up for a meeting with a potential client. He planned to stop by the bar after his meeting. He had been meeting up with Don Alfredo quite frequently and they had formed a bond. Mr Hernandez treated him like a father more than his own father had treated him his whole life. Mr Hernandez was smart and had a lo
HIS RESURGENCE CHAPTER 11Rodriguez stopped in front of his brother’s mansion. He stepped out of his SUV and headed straight inside the building. He hadn’t visited his brother in a while now so he decided it was the perfect time to do so.“ who’s home? Come out little brother!” He calledAlfredo stepped out of his room into the living room where his brother sat, his walking staff beside him.“I’m an old man now Rodriguez, I don’t think ‘little brother ‘ suits me anymore”. He replied with a chuckle.“You’ll always be a little brother to me Alfredo. Come, sit.”“Your leg still giving you problems?” Alfredo asked pointing at his walking staff resting on the chair.“Yep. But I’m still up and about. It’d take more than a bad leg to keep this old man down. Rodriguez replied, half laughing.“I can see that. What brings you by after all this time brother?” Alfredo asked.“I don’t need a reason to come visit my little brother now do I? Besides, I heard you’ve just been discharged from the ho

Xavier’s wedding was in a few hours and everyone was Busy trying to get things in order.Xavier paced from one corner of his room to the other. He was restless. He didn’t know what to expect. When he called Don Alfredo the previous evening, he had told him that he’d take care of everything and that he wouldn’t have to marry Lisa smith. It was only a few hours to The wedding and nothing had happened yet. They had decided to use the Whitlock mansion for the wedding since it was big and magnificent.
