“You’ve been very patient Xavier” Don Alfredo said over the phone. I’m glad you didn’t rush it, you would probably have made a few mistakes if you had let your anger get into your head.”

“I waited two years to re-emerge and set my plans in motion. I wouldn’t do anything to jeopardize it.”

“What about Scarlet. Is she alright with all this? You know, with her past experience with Alex it must be difficult for her.”

Xavier was surprised. “You knew about it?”

“I was friends with her father before he died, he used to work for me. We talked and he told me a few things. He told me how His nephew’s death affected Scarlet. She wasn’t the same after that. She withdrew into a cocoon and it took her a while to get over it. His brother and sister-in-law were so broken. But the Whitlocks were too powerful. They were afraid to go against him. They left the country too with their only remaining daughter. She couldn’t grow up in that environment.”
