Chapter 21

I assumed Wayne, my Uber driver, felt he had to escort me into Mrs. Tannell’s terrifying house because I was a minor and he was an adult.  Running through his head must have been thoughts of liability and a dead little kid that he had just dropped off at a horrifying black house.  There was no way he was going to leave my side now.  That kind of made me more comfortable but as soon as the shit hit the fan, he would run, that was absolutely certain.

Pushing the door open resulted in the creepiest creaking sound you could imagine.  The sound seemed to last for hours until we refocused on the muffled moaning coming from the upstairs.  If there was even the slightest shard of light anywhere in the area, we could not see it.  Wayne was shuffling his feet, careful not to trip over anything or kick something that he would have to replace.
