5. Their Modest Empty Home

I followed the instructions, drawing energy from within my body. I could feel it flowing like blood in my veins, gathering around my heart.

The energy radiated from my fingers and traveled through my sister's forehead, directly to her heart.

"Mmmnn, Brother, I feel warm, the pain is gone. What did you do, brother?" After a little while, my sister left my embrace, looking at me with happiness and excitement.

"I'm glad you feel better. From now on, you won't feel pain, and I promise you'll be completely cured in a few days!" I smiled at her, though inside, I felt upset as the holographic screen showed a similar condition as before with only minor changes.

[She has eased her breathing, reduced her pain, and stabilized her condition. This would offer a temporary respite while she awaits a heart transplant.

[Note: You need to awaken your divine powers if you want to fully cure your sister.]

'So, my divine powers still need to be awakened, but how can I do that?' I pondered, glancing at the hint provided at the bottom.

Just as I was wondering, the holographic screen changed to reveal what I really wanted to know.

[Stage 1: Novice Healer

- Healing Count Required: 10 people

- After healing 10 people, you will awaken your divine powers, and become a Novice Healer.]

'Huh, I need to treat ten people before I awaken my divine power,' I was genuinely surprised to see "Stage 1" mentioned there.

"My dear sister, take a little rest while I have a chat with the doctors, alright!" I wanted to give my sister some time to rest while I'll try to buy some time for both of us.

"Okay, brother, hehe!" She smiled and lay down to rest as I left her room.

I couldn't just approach patients and claim I could heal them with magical abilities. No one would believe me, so I needed to come up with a plan.

"Hello, Dr. Chambers! I'm here to apologize and request some more time. I'll definitely pay the fee by the end of the day," Aarav entered Dr. Ethan Chambers' office and immediately bowed as he apologized.

"Oh, Mr. Veridian! Don't worry about the fee; someone has already covered it," Dr. Ethan looked up to see who had interrupted him and, upon recognizing the person, said it softly.

"Huh, paid by who?" Aarav looked confused.

"Yes, it was Ms. Rossi," Dr. Ethan replied.

"Oh, it's Elara," Aarav was surprised to hear Elara's name.

He had never expected that she would end up paying for his sister's medical bills after she had declined to lend him money.

"Thank you, Dr. Chambers, for always taking care of my sister. I'm truly very grateful for it," Aarav expressed his gratitude to the doctor who often looked after his sister in his absence.

"Well, I suppose she found it convenient to throw some crumbs your way. It's quite amusing how your fate is in the hands of those who see you as nothing more than a burden," Dr. Ethan chuckled, turning Aarav's gratitude into a bitter realization, leaving him with a heavy heart.

Though sympathy lingered for the brother and sister, Dr. Ethan knew there was little more he could do for them.

He could only hope that this young man could carry on with his life without his sister. Dr. Ethan had no idea that Aarav already found a way to treat his sister.

"Actually, Dr. Ethan, I want to take my sister home. I can't bear the thought of her spending her last moments in the hospital. So, I'd like you to help me with her discharge," Aarav spoke sincerely, and Dr. Ethan agreed to assist with the discharge.

Dr. Ethan wrote up the discharge papers, signed them, and handed them to Aarav, who accepted them with a final bow before leaving the doctor's office.

Aarav went to the hospital's reception to complete the remaining discharge process.

Afterward, he hurried to a clothing store and picked up some stylish yet affordable clothes for his sister.

"Aria, come on! We're going home!" Aarav returned to his sister's hospital room and gently tried to wake her.

"Hmmn, brother!" Aria Veridian woke up when she heard him call her.

"Yes, it's me. Wake up, I managed to get you discharged from the hospital today, and now we can go back home!" Aarav said as he lovingly stroked her hair.

"Really!" Aria's eyes brightened at the news of her discharge, and she became wide awake.

"Yes, really. Now get ready. I bought something that should fit you!" Aarav nodded and smiled, pleased to see his sister happy. He handed her the clothes he had bought for her to change into.

She had been wearing hospital clothing until now. Aarav left her room after handing her the bag.

"I'm ready, Brother!" A few minutes later, her sister's voice came from inside.

"Oh, you look great! Now let's get out of here. You can walk, right? If you feel uncomfortable, I can always carry you!" Aarav re-entered and complimented her while also asking if she felt fine standing up.

"I can walk, Brother. But if I don't feel well, you can carry me!" Aria replied as she mischievously hugged one of his arms, eager to leave the hospital.

"Alright then, let's go!" Aarav nodded and smiled at her before leaving the hospital with Aria.

They walked quietly for a while until Aria started feeling uncomfortable, so Aarav carried her on his back.

"Now, are you really feeling okay? I'm still worried about your condition," Aarav asked, concerned that her health might worsen.

"No...brother, don't worry, I'm fine!" Aria shook her head and reassured her brother that she was doing well.

Aarav continued to walk for a few more miles until they reached a quiet neighborhood and arrived near a simple and somewhat old house.

It was a small two-story building with one bedroom and an attic above, while the ground floor featured a kitchen, bathroom, washroom, and a small dining room.

This was the house their parents had left behind after passing away, and Aarav had inherited it.

As Aarav entered their modest home, memories flooded his mind—the laughter that once echoed through these walls, the warmth of family dinners, and the dreams they had shared.

Now, the silence hung heavy, and the emptiness of the rooms mirrored the void in Aarav's heart.

Before Aria fell ill, she had been living here along with him, and Aarav would visit her every night and leave in the morning to work part-time while also attending the University.
