chapter 5 : the first kill !

Michael stood in front of Max's house after dropping him off.

Sophie burst into tears when she noticed the injury on Max's neck that he couldn't hide. George's grip was incredibly strong, and if it weren't for Max killing George, his throat would have been destroyed. It took a long time to calm Sophie down, and Max lied to her about being attacked by a vampire. He didn't want to involve her mother in this matter, so instead, he told her that he got into a fight with a customer at the bar who refused to pay.

Max opened the door of the house and stepped out.

"How is Aunt Sophie doing?" Michael asked, leaning against the wall of the house.

Max nodded his head and said, "She's fine, thank you..." He paused for a moment before continuing, looking at Michael's slightly pale face. "Thank you, my friend, about that..."

Max stopped when he saw Michael waving his hand.

"Forget about it tonight. Let's discuss it tomorrow..."

"As you wish," mumbled Max, then bid farewell to his friend.

As Michael walked through the empty street, he put his hand in his pocket and took out a small crystal-like green stone.

He wasn't looking at the stone but at the messages floating in front of his eyes.

[Soul Stone of the First Degree]

"Congratulations on completing a covert mission: Finding the necessary Soul Stone for system development. You have earned 2 points."

"To develop the system, a Soul Stone of the First Degree is required: 22/1."

The transparent green stone called the Soul Stone was, in fact, what remained of George's body after it had decomposed in a strange way. When Michael and Max were carrying George's body towards the garbage bin, it started to decompose. Although Michael and Max had no idea about the reason, it saved them a lot of trouble in getting rid of the body.

"So even the system can evolve..." Michael murmured as he returned the Soul Stone to his pocket, then looked at the newly acquired ability.

[Clarity: The host has experienced numerous events that permanently affected his emotions and thoughts. With the assistance of the system, the Clarity ability has awakened:

- Enables the user to maintain mental calmness and logical thinking in the worst conditions.

- Additional effect: In some cases, the ability separates emotions that negatively affect the host's judgment.]

He rubbed his temple in pain after seeing the effect of this ability. The ability seemed wonderful and useful. Who in the world wouldn't want to think clearly and logically in all circumstances? But the additional effect was a double-edged sword.

And Michael put this aside and continued his journey.

After an hour of walking, which allowed Michael to ponder several matters, he arrived at the neighborhood where he lived. In the meantime, the clock struck eleven, and the streets were almost empty. The lights in the houses were not on; presumably, the residents had gone to sleep. Fortunately, he had a key to the door.

"I am really tired," he audibly exhaled while turning the key. He entered the house and closed the door behind him, then headed straight to the stairs. But before he could climb to his room, he heard his father Rick calling him from the living room.

"Michael! Come here!" Rick shouted angrily.

"You're very late. Where were you?" Rick asked sharply.

Michael lied and said, "I was working a part-time job, Dad."

"Don't lie to me! You're wasting your time loafing around with your corrupt friends!" Rick yelled. "You're useless and have no future! What have I done in my life to have a son like you?!" Rick cursed.

"Dad, I'm not like that," Michael tried to defend himself. "I'm just trying to find my way in life."

"Don't try! Do it! Or get out of this house!" Rick said firmly. "You don't deserve to live here! You're not my son!"

Michael fell silent. He was depressed because he had been betrayed and also had a terrifying experience earlier today where he had to take someone's life.

Even with the clarity ability, his physical and mental state was unstable. He lifted his head and looked at his father, who had retreated to his room. Michael was tired of hearing these insults from his father every day.

He turned decisively toward the door and left the house. He couldn't stay here for another minute.

He stood outside in the pitch-black night and cold weather. He took out his phone and dialed Max's number but stopped just before pressing the call button.

"No, his current state is enough. I'll just burden him..." he sighed in frustration, then walked away from the house without a specific destination in mind. As he walked, he summoned the system interface.

He stared at the changes that had occurred before him. He suddenly remembered that he had gained experience points for killing George.

"Experience points?! So, experience points are what raise the level," Michael concluded, then looked down.

"I have seven full points..." He could only smile as he looked at the seven points. It had been one of the longest days for him. He felt mentally and physically exhausted. He was excited to see the seven points to the extent that he failed to notice that the endurance and intelligence attributes had turned red and almost reached zero.

He felt extreme sluggishness and couldn't even complete his joy before he collapsed to the ground unconscious. Fortunately, he had unknowingly arrived at a deserted park. He fell onto the grass and entered a deep sleep.

The fight against George had consumed his mental and physical energy, and the problems with his father had worsened the situation. That's why he fell unconscious; it was one of the brain's mechanisms to protect the person.

While Michael lay on the grass in the deserted park, in another part of the city, inside a luxurious villa surrounded by trees, a handsome man with curly brown hair looked at the ceiling with his radiant red eyes and sighed out of boredom. He lay on a large silk-covered bed, with nothing covering his naked body except a thin sheet. His upper body revealed pale white skin and perfectly sculpted muscles.

"Hmm! Victor, my dear, what's the matter?" A beautiful woman spoke as she lay on the bed next to him, wearing almost no clothes. Only the bedsheet covered the forbidden parts of her body.

She also had pale white skin and shining red eyes. Victor played with her long black hair and casually said, "Nothing important, Shelly dear. Just one of the stray dogs died..."

She frowned, "Hmm! That's strange. Who dares to mess with the Blue Pill gang in Denton City? Those dirty wolves are on good terms with us..."

"Oh well! It's just a first-class dog. It must have let its guard down, and the stray rats took advantage of the opportunity to kill it..."

Victor shrugged and continued indifferently, "Anyway, it's pointless to dwell on it. Tomorrow, I'll send Smith to investigate the matter..."

He stared at Shelly with lustful eyes and said seductively, feeling hungry and desirous. He knew that Shelly shared the same feelings as him.

"So, shall we start the fifth round..."

Shelly looked at the lower part of Victor's body and complained,

"Ah! Sometimes I hate that you're a third-class vampire. Your brutal endurance will kill me one day!"

Victor smirked and replied, "Oh! You speak as if you're not also a third-class vampire..."
