chapter 9 : accident Part 1

In an abandoned and dilapidated factory on the outskirts of Denton city, the clock struck ten in the evening. The sky appeared as a heavy gray blanket enveloping the horizon, releasing heavy drops of cold rain that made a disturbing sound on the surface of the metal factory. The air was damp and cold, carrying the scent of rust and dust.

Smith sat on an old wooden chair, his back leaning against the cold concrete wall. He looked expressionless at the man hanging upside down from an iron hook in the center of the room.

Although the face of the suspended man was covered in a layer of dried blood, concealing his features, if Max were here, he wouldn't doubt the identity of this person for a moment. This man was one of the couple relentlessly pursued by Smith in the city streets, under George's orders.

"Leo, that's your name, isn't it?" Smith spoke with a creepy voice mixed with sarcasm. His voice reverberated in Leo's ears, who trembled with fear. Leo couldn't speak; he just nodded vigorously, trying to please Smith.

Smith smiled wickedly and pointed with his bloodstained finger to the body of another man, who was Leo's companion and was with him in the pursuit of Max. "Leo, Leo, you don't want to end up like this garbage, do you? This man was useless, foolish, and stupid. I don't know how the gang employed him." Leo looked at his companion's disfigured corpse, resembling a lifeless doll. His face was pale, and his eyes were wide open in shock. Leo felt horror and regret.

He looked at the demon that emerged out of nowhere when he and his companion were roaming the city streets, as it was part of their job to patrol the streets in search of any activity that could harm the gang.

Unfortunately, today wasn't their lucky day, as Smith literally appeared out of nowhere. But the problem wasn't just that; the problem was that Leo felt his control slipping away in Smith's presence.

He couldn't even muster the strength to speak. They understood that the cause was the old man whom they had never seen before. Leo and his companion weren't fools; they knew that the alternative paths were vampires, and it seemed that this one was stronger than George.

Smith brought them to this place when the two learned the reason why a vampire like Smith was moving against them, after hearing from the old man's mouth that George had died.

They never expected this turn of events. Although George was arrogant because of being a vampire, they knew well what George was capable of. They literally saw him dodge a bullet one day. But a person like that had died, and above all, they were the last people who saw him according to Smith's investigation of the matter.

Leo stopped overthinking as he heard Smith start speaking again.

"Leo! I want information, not a story about what happened yesterday! What happened? Is your partner insane? If ordinary humans can kill vampires as they please, won't we all end up dead? But I know your partner is not lying, and for some reason, I feel the human has something to do with it..."

Smith paused for a moment before asking, "Tell me again, what's the name of that boy?"

"Cough cough, it's Max! I heard his partner call him by that name," Leo replied in a hoarse and weak voice.

Smith stood up and contemplated as he approached Leo, who turned pale upon seeing the demon approaching him.

"Max!? That's truly mysterious. A human child involved in killing a vampire!"

Smith halted in front of the suspended Leo and said, "Look! I'll give you another chance..."

Smith's words were like a light at the end of the tunnel for Leo, who believed his fate would be the same as his partner's.

"Bring me the so-called Max and the other person who was with him... You have only 24 hours."

"And don't even think about escaping..." The tone of the threat was clearly evident in his voice.

Smith left the place immediately after uttering these words.

Boom!

Leo fell to the ground. It was a reprieve. He cast a glance at his partner's lifeless body, then picked up the black gun from the ground and left the place, his face covered in blood, which didn't belong to him but to his partner.

Leo's heart was filled with anger, hatred, and frustration.

"Son of a bitch! You caused my brother's death..."

Naturally, Leo wasn't referring to Smith as the son of a bitch but Max, who was the reason behind all this chaos.

....

Max was currently in his cramped room, unaware that he had become a target of the dreaded Blue Pill gang.

"So!?" asked Michael, lying on the chair.

Max smiled and said, "Fortunately, the boss agreed to bring you along..."

Michael raised his eyebrows and asked, "How much do I have to pay!?"

Max waved his hand and replied, "Actually, you don't have to pay a single penny. He agreed to bring you along for free."

"Now go to sleep..."

...

The next morning, the clock showed 6.

"What the hell!?" muttered Michael in a low voice, afraid of waking Max from his sleep. Surprise was evident on his face, all because of the message floating in front of him.

Waking up to this message in the morning, he already knew that the system assigns missions and, in return, Michael receives points. However, since he got the system, he hadn't received any mission until today.

"A daily mission!? Does this mean that this mission will appear every day!?" He knew he wouldn't get an answer to his question, but it couldn't help but wonder about it because the word "daily" caught his attention.
