Ding![Mission: Get to the Willowdale Town inn before sundown.]Corinne wiped away the dust on the old wooden sign, trying to read the faded letters only to see that the words were still hardly distinguishable due to water and weather damage. It pointed in a certain direction, which normally would have guided travellers to a town. However, three short sentences had been carved into the bottom right corner of the sign in small letters; she would not have noticed them if she had not been examining the sign closely.Do not look back.Do not answer.Do not stop.As she finished reading what sounded like warnings, the fog had gotten heavier. Layers of mist writhed and churned around them as if they were not just fog, but something alive and malevolent. As if they were monsters slowly gaining on them, wanting to devour them and pull them deep into the abyss.

Or will you be the one that is reigning over them? 50% chance of increasing or decreasing the affection of wild children)]Corinne took a huge bite out of her honey-dipped sweet waffles as her eyes skimmed through her traveller’s profile page in the traveller’s app. When she returned from the trial station, Cakeland Kingdom, she had gone from level 0 to level 1 and graduated from being a trial traveller. Both she and Claire became full-fledged travellers after they completed their mission at Cakeland Kingdom, which meaned they had finally gotten full access to the app.As soon as Corinne noticed that she could explore new functions that were previously unavailable,
When Corinne opened her eyes, she found herself inside a mini-bus alone, Claire was nowhere to be found.Apart from herself, there were nine other people on the bus, including the driver.Corinne was sitting by herself with her belongings on the seat next to her. She found a bag of potato chips on her lap, and her hand was holding a cell phone with earphones attached. It was like she was on a field trip. Her eyes went over to the passengers on the bus; some of them were chatting and sharing snacks, whereas others were calmly observing their surroundings just like she was, then there were a few who were looking around in a panicked manner. Were they NPCs or travellers like her?Corinne proceeded to look out the window only to see that it was broad daylight outside. She noticed that there wasn’t any traffic on the road, the bus was the only vehicle driving down the path. She did not see any buildings either, only trees, endless trees like they were in the middle of a forest.Pulling her
It had been two and a half hours since they started walking down the forest path.Ace glanced at his watch, then at the travellers, as well as the NPCs.Abigail was now dragging her feet, supporting herself with a thick branch. She bit her lower lip, still looking pale with a layer of sweat shining on her forehead, but she did not complain or rely on the others, instead she stood strong and continued to walk. When Ace’s eyes landed on the thick branch, his eyes twitched and swept over to a young girl who was playing with another branch in her hands. In under thirty minutes, nearly all the NPCs had branches that were being used as canes. This was the work of the brunette traveller -- Corinne. He wasn’t aware that Corinne had the strength of Hercules. When she noticed that they were tired, her went over to the trees that lined both sides of the path to retrieve the branches. Apart from Corinne and John who barely broke a sweat, most of the people in the group were tired. What surprised
As soon as they stepped foot into the territory of the town, a familiar sound rang in their head, and a screen flashed into existence.Ding![Station: Willowdale TownMission: Put Willowdale Town back on the map.Countdown: 5 days]The travellers paused, exchanging glances with one another. Corinne raised a brow, unlike the Cakeland Kingdom which gave a brief description and background of the station and what was going on, all she got this time was the name of the station and a basic mission -- which only made her all the more confused. She looked at the others, seeing that they were just as confused as she was. Well, except for John, who had been carrying a carefree expression on his face ever since they got here.Corinne directed her attention to her surroundings and began to observe the town. The winding streets were empty, and the scattered houses seemed very strange and out of place to her. The wind could easily be heard, given the lack of people, and the breeze screamed for cov
Kiki: Why did you come here?It was a new message from Kiki.Corinne was startled, her eyes moved up to the top right corner of the screen. There were no bars…There was no signal at all. What came after gave Corinne a shiver down her spine.Kiki: Why did you come here?Kiki: Run…Kiki: Why are you here?Kiki: You cannot be here, run!The messages came in one after another, but they gave off very different vibes, as though Kiki had a split personality. Then, a message instantly threw her to the North Pole. Kiki: I’m here…As if on cue, she heard knocking.Corinne’s eyes swept towards the door, but the knocking sound came from the window. That was when Corinne felt it, someone was gazing at her. Corinne turned her head and make eye contact with an eyeball. Someone was staring at her through the gap of the curtains.Corinne raised a brow, her room was on the second floor, unless the person outside was a ninja or Spiderman, the only thing she could think of was ghosts. And with the messa
A scream was never a good sign when they were at a station. As soon as Ace heard the scream, he stood up abruptly, knocking over his chair.“That sounded like Potter,” Miles stated.“Inn keeper dude?” John asked.“Who did this to my lantern?! Ahhhh!” Potter screamed.
Corinne, Abigail and John ventured to the southern part of the town. Before them lay a bustling market, filled with colour and life. Everywhere their eyes fell, vendors presented their wares beneath cheerful awnings of brightly coloured cloth.Rows of tables stood full with produce, meats and ready-to-eat dishes. Not only that, but they were selling a lot of eggs. Plain eggs, decorative egg-shaped knick-knacks, dishes made from eggs. No matter how much of a foodie Corinne was, seeing so many eggs in one place made her lose her appetite. The air was alive with chatter and the tantalizing aroma of spices and freshly cooked food. People of all ages meandered amongst the aisles, examining items and conversing. As Corinne and her fellow travellers strolled around the marketplace, she noticed every stall had a familiar symbol; a vibrant orange rooster with wings outstretched as if it were about to take flight. It reminded her of the weather-worn stone sculpture in the town square.“With how
