Prologue - The Lost Town

[Mission: Get to the Willowdale Town inn before sundown.]

Corinne wiped away the dust on the old wooden sign, trying to read the faded letters only to see that the words were still hardly distinguishable due to water and weather damage.

It pointed in a certain direction, which normally would have guided travellers to a town. However, three short sentences had been carved into the bottom right corner of the sign in small letters; she would not have noticed them if she had not been examining the sign closely.

Do not look back.

Do not answer.

Do not stop.

As she finished reading what sounded like warnings, the fog had gotten heavier. Layers of mist writhed and churned around them as if they were not just fog, but something alive and malevolent. As if they were monsters slowly gaining on them, wanting to devour them and pull them deep into the abyss.
