The Mafia

"Why?" Hermes struggled as he tried to maintain his cool. His eyes were bloodshot as the hair on his skin rose in an instant, his veins were bulging and his expression said it all - he was heartbroken by the sight before him.

"Why have you done this?" He repeated, his eyes fixed on the woman he had hoped to spend the rest of his life with, but who now belonged to another man. "Why?"

Haisley did not seem moved by his obvious downcast and troubled appearance, she only hissed in a passionless tone while wearing a straight face. "Shouldn't I be asking you that? Huh? Hermi? Why have you decided to ruin the happiest day of my life? Shouldn't you have just hide away from me forever out of shame? Why did you have to show up here?"

"What? The happiest day of your life?!" Hermes could not believe those words he heard. Was that not the Haisley he knew? How could getting married to that bastard be so special to her. So much that she would not give a damn about Hermes and his feelings, or the times they spent together. "What happened to us?"

"Us?" Haisley smirked, "there ain't no us, Hermi. Don't you get it? We're done, since like... forever".

She had no remorse in her, no pity, no emotion, nothing. Just an insensitive blend of pride and disgust. Her face held no compassion and her words hurt like blade.

"Why?" Hermes tried to put himself in order and ask that question. "At least, you should have a good reason for doing this to me?"

"Good reason for dumping you?!" Haisley scoffed.

"We had a future!"

"A future that didn't include handcuffs and prison vest!"

Then she looked him straight in the eye. "Poor boy, you're not so fast are you? Did you really expect me to wait out three years of my precious life just to tie the knots with a prisoner like yourself? A loser? Who has nothing to offer me? Look at yourself! You're rough, you're broke, you are nothing!"

Her eyes taunted Hermes as much as her words did, then she moved closer to where Derek stood, who was smiling at what he saw as a beautiful scenario, and she held his hands.

"Why him?" Hermes muttered again, his eyes red from heartache. He had always thought that no matter what happened, Haisley would remain for him. She had been his when he had everything, and she would be his forever.

But at the time when he needed her companionship the most, when he was in deep need of her love, she turns away to someone else. But if it were to be anyone else, it would have been better. Anyone else apart from that freak, any man apart from Derek. Why would she choose him?

"You mean Derek?" Haisley replied with a delighted expression. She placed her head on Derek's shoulders, "Isn't it obvious? I mean he's strong, sweet, loving and opps! Most importantly, he is rich! Like really rich". She put an emphatic drag on the "rea" as she said "really".

Raising her head to look at Adam, she continued. "Or you know of anyone who has more money in Carlifornia than the famous Bradburys? I bet you don't. That's why we're getting married". She chuckled as Derek greased her forehead with a slight kiss that received a gasping ovation from the lips present, except of course, those lips which belonged to Hermes.

Looking at her play love with his foe, the feelings he had harboured for the past three years seemed to crash into the sea at that moment. The beauty in her eyes lost its charm that very instant.

"Bitch!" He growled under his breathe. "You call this marriage? I call it business. You just sold yourself off to the same man who harassed you in public. He disrespected you and I fought for you". He beat his chest in anger. "I thought I fought for your pride, your dignity. That's how I lived through these past three years, but it's a shame. You had no dignity to begin with!"

His words ignited fire in the eyes of the new couple.

"Bitch? How dare you?!" Derek roared.

"Why is he still standing here?" Haisley asked sharply in a cold intimidating tone which commanded fear among the six feet heighted men who surrounded Hermes. "Dump him somewhere already". She commanded casually.

As the men moved closer to Hermes who was not moved by the threat on their faces, he smiled and shook his head softly.

"At least, I'll take out my anger out on these sons of bitches".

In the tick of a second, the guard who attacked him first had gone down, and the second was on his way as he kicked the poor man down on his chest.

Using the falling guards as walking steps, he made it into the air and jumped high, delivering kicks to the face of two men in the process.

At this point, the others were doubtful of going further with Hermes but even though they retreated, he was just getting started with them.

Swerving and boxing, he dealt severe blows in the face of his combat opponents, taking a man down each moment that passed till the last one among them was lying face down on the bare ground.

"Is that all?" He sighed as if disappointed. He could still feel his blood boiling, agitating that he needed more than just a few big bad bodyguards.

Seeing this, Haisley was scared. She never knew that Hermes could fight like that. Where did he learn to do that?

Derek, however, was extremely vexed. Hermes had just made a joke of his men, and he had to show him what true power was.

"You think you are a hero? Then I'll show you what villainy is all about!"

He then made a call to his father's friend; the big boss of the biggest mafia in the city. Someone who would destroy Hermes so fast and so much that Haisley would not need a prison to keep him away from her. He would simply be blown away.

"You just wait and you'll regret ever stepping foot on my wedding ground!"

In about a few minutes, numerous black cars shoot out from a distance. They reclined close to the wedding grounds and hundreds of men in black walked out from the vehicles.

The most distinguished among them was a tall old man who wore a grey suit. He had a walking stick in his left hand and he wore black glasses.

"What is the problem, son? I was in the middle of some business." He asked as he reached the place.

"You remember the son of a bitch who hit me three years ago?" Derek started and the old man nodded. "Well, he's back for me!"

As Derek narrated the disrespectful demeanour of Hermes to the mafia boss, the old man scowled at the tall muscular misfit in fury.

"Does he think he can duel with you? Beat him up this instant!" He signalled to his men.

As they moved towards Hermes in an attempt to catch him, he moved swiftly among his predators, trying to keep up with their advances.

As his hand dived around in the air with his turning motions, the mafia boss caught the sight of the ring on Hermes' left hand.

"What?" He stammered to himself. "How come?"

Just as his men were about to jump at Hermes and tear him to shreds, he screamed at them.

"Wait!"
