"The Street of Fire!!!"The billboard shined with those words as Hermes alighted from the car. "Bye!" He waved off his hosts as the vehicle zoomed hurriedly away from sight. Then he threw his eyes around his surrounding for a while.Very few cars roamed the area. And not many people wished to be around on that street, except they thought they were immune to danger in some magical way. Only a few people had the antidote against the high risk that lingered around the street of fire. Because it was always very silent on the roads... but noisy on the roadsides. The smell of smoke and the roar of a boxing audience from a not so far away boxing match were the only things that welcomed Hermes to the crazy street. That was Crescent, the most dangerous street in Twillightoria."Hey!" A voice called from behind just a few moments after he alighted from Jack's car.As Hermes turned around, three hefty men were strolling in his direction."Who you?" The one in front asked. He had his face cap t
The two men set to work in Danny's mysterious underground enterprise. It belonged to his boss, or as they called him, "The King of the Street."A man whose face was known to none but few. He was involved in all sorts of crimes save for national crime, and only because the predators ruled the country in that aspect. The predators were everything dreadful in Twillightoria. They ruled the world of crime, and they had links with the men in power. Anyone they protected was safe, but anyone they stood against would face the entire opposite of everything safety meant. The law could not hold them down, neither could the people defy them. The government were in league with them, and their allies spread far and wide, within and away from Twillightoria.Which was why they hated Crescent, the only street in Twillightoria that could stand against their unrivalled authority. Every town and hood that surrounded Crescent shared the same defiance as them, and they all stood together against the world
Jazz music played solemnly within the large restaurant. The workers were ecstatic and the foods were great. Female meal servers dressed in outfits that would make a man go hungry. They strode around flawlessly, working for their pay in a spectacular fashion.Around a table sat two men with black glasses hanging from their faces, disguising them from possible recognition. Their meals were untouched, but one could not say the same for their drinks.Hermes poured another glass and sipped gently with frustration hiding behind his eyes."Could she have changed her plans?" He uttered to his companion seated before him."Nah. I doubt". The man responded, "Dan never makes a mistake. Even if he does, the chances are one in a hundred.""Can't take those chances." Hermes dropped the glass and looked around.Just behind the farthest window from them, on the opposite side of the road, Tracy waved at him from inside the car. The big guy was also in the car, they were smoking some stuff."They don'
"Which floor are you heading to, sir?" Swiss requested of Hermes who didn't seem to have a ready made answer. He was just standing there, still and uncompromised. With his intentions unknown to them and his identity obscure, he surveyed his surroundings carefully.Of Haisley's two bodyguards, one was standing directly behind him, only inches taller than Hermes. The other one was at the farther side, and Swiss was in front of him. This put Haisley in the centre of them all, just beside Hermes. When the answer did not come, Swiss pressed a button. "I'm sorry sir but you'll have to take the flight back when we're off".Still no reply, and this infuriated Swiss while Haisley became cautious. She turned her eyes at him again. Besides those dark pair of glasses and those bushy beard and moustache, the figure was certainly familiar. Before long, they had reached the highest floor, and the doors of the lift seperated. As they came out of the elevator, Hermes attempted to step out with them.
As Hermes fell over, the man dragged him by his leg into another room."I knew you were some threat!" He snared as he jammed shut the door with them inside.Nobody could hear them, nobody could see them. Just the two of them."Who are you?" He roared loud, advancing towards Hermes. The latter could not say a word yet as he tried to rise to his feet. Crawling on all four, it seemed as if he was weak and he struggled. But when he checked to see his attacker right in front of him, he chuckled."I am your nemesis."Like a thunderbolt, his legs swiped over the floor swiftly, taking the legs of his opponent with it. Thus when the loyal bodyguard was falling down on his back, Hermes was rising back to his feet, and the situation was completely reversed. The man gritted. With a sense of urgency, he tried to stand up again. But Hermes knocked him back to the ground. As he bent over to knock him unconscious, the man was able to evade the blow somehow, toppling Hermes over and dealing him deadly
He stood with his back to the door. He could hear the bangs and jolts as those outside tried fervently to break in after him. But no matter how much they tried, he knew there was no going through that door without opening it. It was a highly secured and essentially special structure, a masterclass like every other thing in that suite, or in most parts of the restaurant to be honest. Hermes could recognize the quality of the glass walls that stood at his two sides. It would have cost some fortune to get all those things together. The beauty of the little passage that folded out before him. The look of the shiny grounds, the compact nature of the elegant upper walls that lay over his head. It was all remarkable, too remarkable for a food company. And of course, they had security cameras carefully attached to them."Jammed!" Dan informed him through the earphone."Got it." He replied, staring at the elevated devices as they all stopped to beep their usual red colour in unsion. Then the
As soon as Derek placed the flat key on the key receptor, a computer voice chimed. "Opening..." it said, "In three... two... one..."Then it made three fast beeps, and a crackling sound followed, announcing that the door was unlocked. But as he pushed open and barged in, he is greeted by a thick white fog which consumed the whole suite in a matter of seconds, accompanied by a loud hissing sound.Derek could not see clearly, nor could anyone else. Earlier, the tension had increased when Hermes locked himself in with the new Mrs Bradbury and everyone was beginning to worry, but now in the presence of this sudden fog, the whole place threw up in complete pandemonium."My eyes! My eyes!" Was yelled from every direction. Derek could not keep his eyes shut for long. Even if he could, his men could not. He yelled orders at them with a desperate energy. "Go in! Go in!" He directed them into the deep smoky room. He knew that his wife's captor was in there, and might want to escape with Hais
"I had a deal with Dan. You are making a mistake." Hermes was at a loss, but kept his cool. The ear piece seemed to have suddenly stopped functioning and he had no way to speak with Dan directly. There was no sense in their words, because Dan had firmly promised to help Hermes locate his mother. In return, Hermes would help him take revenge on the Bradburys for how they terrorized his childhood. Dan was not someone who would break a person's trust in him so cheaply without a solid reason. Something must be awfully wrong, either these people were gravely misinformed or they were lying jerks themselves."Well, that deal is over now, sweetheart" said Tracy, a gum hanging between her lips "It ended the second you walked through that door. It means you don't trust Danny, or anyone of us at that. We can't trust you neither."They were not wrong, Hermes had a hard time trusting anyone of them. But it wasn't exactly his fault, was it? He searched around the faces of his companions, one after
