Chapter 2: Death Of Student

After the figure was successfully sent to the underworld, he cleaned himself by changing all the clothes he had worn earlier. It was a habit he did after carrying out his duties.

Tonight Hermes was feeling very uneasy. He didn't know what was wrong with him.

"Why do I feel so bad? What is this? What will happen?” Hermes asked himself.

Tonight Hermes tries to win himself over and begins his night's sleep.

Slowly Hermes tried to close his eyes, but they still couldn't close. He didn't know his current state.

"Hermes,"

A soft voice called Hermes which suddenly woke him up from his sleep.

After hearing the voice, he meditated to find out who had called him.

"Thanatos," Hermes said after meditating.

Thanatos is the god of death whose job is to take human life, which is then continued by Hermes to send the spirit to the underworld.

After knowing who called him, Hermes made inner contact to summon the figure. He was also a little confused because Thanatos just called him without discussing anything so he had to find out first who just greeted him.

"Thanatos, did you call me?" Hermes said in his mind.

"Yes Hermes, that's right me," replied Thanatos.

“Then why don't you continue your sentence, but only call my name. What will happen?" Hermes asked.

"Something's going to happen Hermes. I will carry out my duty to take human life, he seems to be someone you know."

"Can we meet to discuss this?" Hermes asked because he thought this was a serious discussion.

"Okay, if you want to meet me I'll come to you right now,"

"I'm waiting for you"

It's very late tonight. Around 1:00 am, Thanatos came over to Hermes. Hermes, who had been waiting for his arrival, was very enthusiastic when he saw his presence.

"Hey Hermes," said Thanatos.

"Yes Thanatos. What do you want to say?” ask Hermes.

"Tomorrow I will take the life of one of your students," said Thanatos.

“One of my students? Who?" Hermes said.

"Yes, one of your students in class 1-D," replied Thanatos.

“Charun,” he continued.

"What is it Charun?" Hermes asked.

When he heard the name of one of his favorite students called, Hermes was very surprised and did not expect that Charun's life was much shorter than he thought.

He was stunned for a moment as he absorbed Thanatos' words.

"That's right, Charun. You must also carry out your duty to bring Charu's spirit to the underworld of Hermes. It has become your duty and you have promised to keep it," said Thanatos.

Hermes was still silent and only listened intently to Thanatos' words. He was at a loss as to what he should do now. On the one hand, he really loves Charu because Charu has a good personality.

Charun is a smart and quiet boy in his class. He also loves and respects everyone very much.

On the other hand, he has a task to complete. He has a responsibility for it and he cannot be negligent in his duty.

"Let me think for a moment Thanatos," Hermes ordered.

"There's no time, Hermes. You have to run your errands for tomorrow. You have no other choice," Thanatos replied.

"Yes, there must be another way. I'm asking for help. Please give me some time to think. I can't make rash decisions."

Hermes was still asking for stones so he could think clearly. He loves his student very much and he doesn't want his student to leave him too soon.

"Okay, I'll give you five minutes. After that, you must prepare yourself to carry out your duties tomorrow. I'm sure you'll be able to run everything well Hermes. I believe that," Thanatos said.

"Okay Thanatos thanks."

After thinking for a while, Hermes finally found a way out of the problem he was currently facing. He has other ways to replace the taking of Charu's life.

"Thanatos I have another way," Hermes said.

"What's that? Another way for what?” asked Thanatos.

"I have another option so you don't take Charun's life," Hermes said of his offer.

"What's that?" Thanatos asked curiously.

After hearing Hermes' words, Thanatos began to listen carefully to the words that came out of Hermes' mouth. He knew this was a very difficult decision and he wanted to hear directly from Hermes about his response to solving the problem.

"I want to exchange that for my wages," Hermes said quietly.

"Which wages?" asked Thanatos.

“All my efforts while I was devoted to being a spirit sender. Everything," Hermes replied.

Indeed, as long as Hermes is a spirit sender to the underworld. He was also rewarded by Thanatos. Even though Hermes had devoted himself without asking for anything in return, but Thanatos' decision to give him a reward could not be contested at that time. Finally, Hermes agreed because according to him the important thing is that he can carry out his duties well, even with wages or no wages.

"Are you sure?" asked Thanatos.

"Very sure. I'm really very sure. Now I ask for your help to let the child live and carry out his activities as usual. Can you accept it?” said Hermes.

Thanatos was not surprised to hear that Hermes gave up his wages for the sake of one of his students. That's because previously Hermes himself did not want to be paid by him. However, what Thanatos was surprised at was hearing Hermes' sincere words not to take the life of his disciple. It was obvious that Hermes was pleading at that time.

"Do you really love Charu?" asked Thanatos.

"Yes, I really love my students," answered Hermes.

“How about Thanatos? Do you agree to my request Thanatos?” Hermes said turning to ask Thanatos.

"Yes I agree," replied Thanatos.

“Thank you Thanatos,” Hermes said with a genuine smile.

Finally Hermes' request was granted by Thanatos. Thanatos did not take the child's life and in return Hermes would not receive any salary from him.

Having finished with his business, Thanatos left Hermes and returned to his original place.

"My business is finished here, I'm sorry to say goodbye. Have a nice day tomorrow," Thanatos said.

"Thanks Thanatos," Hermes replied.

After seeing Thanatos leave his house, he reentered his room.

“So this is the reason my mind wasn't calm just now. Luckily Thanatos would grant my wish. I really love my student. I want him to continue to grow up to be a smart person,” Hermes muttered.

After his thoughts calmed down, he finally decided to sleep and hoped that tomorrow would be as expected. He hopes to still see Charun in his class in good health and wellness.
