Chapter Eight

Muddy water mixed with tears dripped down Cash’s face, he was at a loss for words, turning to face his assailant, Justin was looking back at him with a smug look on his face.

Victor, who had watched his son pour the water, had a satisfied smile on his face, let out a booming laugh, and simultaneously clapped his hands loudly.

“That’s my boy! That was a good one, my boy. Fools like him, deserve a taste of their own medicine”

“That is exactly right, father. To think he was not remorseful and still tried to defend himself. I just needed to show him who's boss here just in case he doesn't know” Justin turned, smiling widely at his father

The smile still intact on Victor’s face,

“I'm proud of you. You have accomplished it well”

The noise had attracted the attention of some of the occupants of that floor, especially Dame Katrina, who had been looking forward to and prepping for her meeting with the Danes.

Justin had already informed her of their arrival into the company, wondering what the holdup was, as well as the commotion she was hearing down the hall, and decided to find out what the problem was.

On getting outside, the first thing her eyes and clad feet noticed was the wet ground

“What the hell happened here, and who is the cleaner in charge? Someone is going to pay for this damage”

Moving towards the gathering audience, with eyebrows forming a line, she walked on to investigate the matter. Her staff made way for her to pass through when she got to their midst.

Her scrunched eyebrows turned into a deep scowl, as she narrowed her eyes on a soaked Cash

“What have you done this time around you incompetent fool!?” she yelled at Cash, almost stomping her feet but refrained herself. The fool was not going to be the death of her.

Taking her eyes away from Cash, her scowl morphed into a welcoming smile, as her gaze landed on Justin and his father Victor. Composing herself, she extended an arm towards Victor to welcome him

“Good day Mr Dane, you're welcome to Kenton Company, it's a pleasure to have you.”

Victor although stunned by her beauty, scoffed before grumbling loudly while he took her hand in his for a handshake

“I can't say for certain if it's a pleasure, considering the kind of welcome I got from one of your lowly staff”

Hearing that, Katrina’s skin flushed, as she ground her teeth. Jabbing her finger into Cash’s face, nostril-flaring she grabbed Cash’s collar and spewed profanities at his face

“I do not need to ask what you've done, because you never seem to get anything right in your life, you will not ruin all I have worked and strived for, you hear me!? I will not allow it. I do not care if it takes you a year to grovel for forgiveness but grovel you will! Now get on your knees!” not giving him a chance to respond, she tried to push him down to get on his knees.

Having no choice, got on his knees with head bowed, clasped his hand before his chest, and apologised to Victor

“I'm so sorry Sir. I'm such a klutz. I'm sorry I ruined your outfit, Sir” He pleaded with a broken voice, his head hanging, tears rolled down his eyes dropping onto the wet ground but no one took note of it, as they all scowled at Cash’s bent form.

“You really are a klutz” a familiar voice spoke in the crowd, stepping forward to where he knelt, as she stood beside Justin glaring daggers at Cash. Cash knew the voice, but to confirm, he lifted his head slightly and saw the familiar blue eyes of Vivian’s ever-familiar glare.

Vivian had been informed by Jason and David about the situation on ground, and she had come hurrying up, not to defend her husband, but to be there for Justin, her lover. Turning to face Victor, with Justin rubbing her back assuredly, she apologised to him

“I'm sincerely sorry Sir for the damage my foolish husband has cost you, not even considering the embarrassment. I sincerely apologise, and please be rest assured that we will be replacing your outfit” she informed him, her chin held high as she rolled her eyes at Cash.

“Oh yes, we will. Not only that, the fool’s salary will be deducted until he's able to cover the cost of the damage we are refunding” Katrina declared, narrowing her eyes at him

Cash couldn't hold the in-audible gasp that escaped him, going by Katrina’s proclamation, it would take him years if not his lifetime to be able to pay off such debt. His salary was extremely meagre, the bare minimum unable to help him even fend for his ill mother, yet it was to be deducted again.

Considering that there was no actual damage done to the outfit, as the watermark had completely dried up, but then again the rich thrived in oppressing the poor and powerless ones like himself.

Victor who was mildly satisfied with how Cash was dealt with, nodded his head satisfactorily. Turning to Katrina, he smiled captivatingly and nodded his head at Vivian

“It's alright, no one should say no and stress two beautiful ladies like yourselves” causing both grandmother and granddaughter to blush.

Standing tall, while still beaming with a smile Katrina led the way to her office

“Gentlemen, please do follow me. My office is just a few doors away from there” Turning away, she looked back at Cash, stopped her walk and sneered at him

“And you, ensure you scrub and mop this entire hallway dry! I want it spick and span or you will have me to contend with! Did you get that?”

Clearing his throat, Cash replied in a low voice

“Yes Ma’am”

Katrina gave a long hiss and walked away with the Danes trailing behind her.

Vivian on the other hand, sneered at scowled at the back of Cash’s head and muttered into his ears, her voice dripping in disgust and hate

“worthless pig” and walked away, leaving Cash to his misery.
