Chapter 5

As Sophia pounded on the door, Noahgroggily woke up to the loud noise. "Who could be knocking at this ungodly hour?" she grumbled, rubbing her messy hair in frustration. When she opened the door, she was taken aback by the sight before her. Was this some kind of gangster movie? Behind Sophia stood a group of over 20 young men from the Peters family, some holding staffs, others wielding knives or expandable batons.

Tristan Peters, Sarah's cousin, pushed his way past Noahand barked out orders. "Move aside! We're here for Sarah and Ray!" The commotion roused the sleeping couple, who stumbled out of the bedroom only to be surrounded by the menacing group of men.

As the tension in the room escalated, Sarah turned to her sister, her chest heaving with anger. "How could you betray me like this, Sophia? You're my sister!"

Sophia's lip curled as she snorted in response. "You didn't help Mom, and your useless man caused trouble with Mr. Cole from Oscorp Corporation . He even took Mr. Cole's bathrobe from the hotel lobby, humiliating him. If he can't find you, he'll make all the Peters pay for your actions. I had no choice."

The room fell silent as everyone tried to process what Sophia had just said. The tension hung thick in the air as the group waited for Sarah and Ray's response.

Sarah's eyes widened in disbelief as she stared at Ray. "You took James 's bathrobe?" she exclaimed, her voice laced with shock.

A sly smile crept over Ray's face. "It was just a bit of harmless fun," he replied. "That jerk deserved a little lesson. And trust me, I'm not finished with him yet."

Sarah's nerves were on edge, but the image of a naked James standing in the hotel lobby was too much for her to handle, and she couldn't help but stifle a laugh. "You shouldn't have gotten involved," she chided Ray. "But thank you for doing it for me."

Ray waved off her concern. "Don't worry, I'll always be here to protect you," he assured her.

But before he could finish his sentence, a snicker echoed through the room, and Tristan appeared, pointing a staff at Ray. "Save the bragging for later," he commanded. "Someone break his legs and tie up Sarah. We're taking them to Mr. Cole's house."

The other Peters family members brandished their weapons, ready to attack. Noahtried to pull Sarah away and hide in the bedroom, but she shook free and stood defiantly in front of Ray.

"He did what he did for me," she declared, her arms outstretched to protect him. "If you touch him, you'll have to go through me first."

Ray felt a surge of panic. He was a powerful force, but he knew that the Peters family despised him and wouldn't hesitate to harm him. Despite the fact that he could make them pay ten times over, he didn't want to risk losing everything.

As he watched Sarah stand up for him, a wave of gratitude washed over him. "Sarah, step back," he urged her. "I'll face them myself."

Despite feeling panicky, Ray refused to let Sarah go on her own. He had quickly identified the weakest point in their surroundings and, if a fight broke out, he was determined to charge at that spot with Sarah by his side.

Tristan gave a calm order to his young men from the Peters family to grab Sarah and move her aside so they could attack Ray together. But Sarah was not going to let that happen without a fight. She grabbed a vase and smashed it against the tea table, threatening to harm herself if anyone dared to come closer.

Ray was taken aback by Sarah's sudden show of strength and her willingness to put her own life on the line to protect him, her loser husband. The standoff reached a deadlock as none of the young men dared to approach Sarah.

Sophia, Sarah's sister, was shocked and pleaded with her to put the vase down and apologize to Mr. Cole to end the conflict. But Sarah was determined to protect Ray at all costs, even if it meant cutting ties with her own sister.

As tensions rose, Sophia lashed out at Ray and questioned his manhood, causing his anger to boil over. The situation had become a powder keg ready to explode.

As coughing sounds filled the room, the entrance opened, and an old woman wearing traditional attire shuffled in, aided by a middle-aged lady. "Grandma, what brings you here?" asked the person who had been addressed as such. It was Monica Peters, the head of the illustrious Peters clan. Despite her age, she appeared lively and youthful, with hardly any wrinkles marring her face. As she surveyed the scene, she sneered, "You people do nothing but engage in tomfoolery and chaos. You can't even handle a minor incident. How can I not worry?" Her gaze then settled on Sarah, and she spoke in a hushed yet threatening tone, "Lori, drop the vase and follow me."

Sarah had always been intimidated by Monica and quivered, but she refused to comply. "No, if I let go, they'll harm Ray," she retorted stubbornly. Monica gestured with her hand, "Put away your weapons. Ray is the half-Peters family's son-in-law, who lives with us. How can you treat him like this?"

At her words, the young men immediately relinquished their weapons. Tristan was the first to do so, his staff thudding against the floor. Only then did Sarah carefully place the shattered vase on the ground.

Monica heaved a sigh, her tone now somber, "Lori, take Ray with me. We must apologize to Mr. Cole tonight, or our family will face dire consequences."
