On The Bridge.

Liam walked mindlessly on the street, his mind replaying every single thing that happened back at Cara's house, the way she rejected him and threw him out.

His lips set on a thin line and one could see the hurt in his eyes. Though he put up a tough front, on a closer look, you could tell he was in pain.

He had married Cara seven years ago after two years of dating, he thought she loved him as much as he did. She was pretty and lovely and did whatever he asked without questioning him.

They were so happy together and his in-laws accepted him even though he had no proper job, he was a graphic designer and was learning coding on a free online site until the very faithful day he woke up to find himself in an alley with a girl covered in blood beside him.

Someone had set him up and framed him for raping a teenager.

As he walked, people gave him weird stares and some avoided him because of the way he looked, dirty like a homeless man.

But Liam cared less about how anybody stared at him or how they looked or felt about him.

He cleared every thought of Cara from his head and the only thing that occupied his thoughts was how to get a job and a place to stay.

It wouldn't have been this difficult for him if he had a family but his only uncle died while he was still in prison and his house must have already been rented to someone else.

His uncle Jo was the only person who visited him in prison frequently till he stopped only for Liam to hear that he died.

It was an abrupt and unexpected death. The death couldn't even give his uncle a chance to spend more time with him. His uncle left nothing behind, not even a letter for him. It just felt as if Uncle Jo never existed to begin with, as if he was just Liam's delusions but of course, his Uncle Jo was a real and true person.

Almost two hours had passed with Liam walking mindlessly, he was currently on a bridge and had no idea when he got here because his mind was too occupied with how pathetic his life had turned out to be. He was indeed a loser.

He sat beside the road on the bridge and rested his back on something. Below this bridge was a river, maybe he came here for a reason. This would be the perfect way to end his meaningless and ruined life, he would fall into this bridge and just die, at least nobody would be hurt from his death. Not to mention, he would get to meet his family wherever death took them.

But first, he needed to rest, he was mentally and physically drained and he needed enough energy to fall into the river.

With his eyes closed Liam stayed in that position for a long time, enjoying the breeze and the quietness of the place. The regular zoom sound of cars running by soon felt like a lullaby to him. He felt better.

Soon the place turned so quiet that it was beginning to hurt his ears. No cars were passing by for the past few minutes, a sigh escaped his mouth as he ran his hand through his dark brown hair with his eyes still closed.

However, a loud and ear-piercing screeching sound reached his ears, causing his eyes to snap open. He looked to his side to see two cars driving with crazy speed and...

BANG! *BANG!

Gunshots!

The tyre of the first car was shot and the car came to an abrupt stop right before where Liam was sitting. The second car stopped right behind the first car and four men in an all-black outfit came out of the second car and they all ran to the first car that Liam noted was a sports car.

He watched as they forcefully pulled out a young man who appeared scared and without noticing the presence of the other person, One of the four men proceeded to attack the scared young man.

All of this was happening before Liam's shocked eyes stared wide open at the one getting attacked and the ones attacking. The four men were forcefully pushing the scared young man to their van and seeing the situation, Liam knew without a doubt that the young man was in danger and needed help because he obviously couldn't fight for himself.

Now Liam was stuck between helping or minding his business. What if he tries to help and they beat his ass up and were taken along with the young man? Or what if he tries to help and becomes a hero, that would be so magnificent and- he was going to die anyway.

What would be the difference if he ended up dying in the hands of these men? And even if he fought and won, he would still fall off the bridge and die too. So there was absolutely nothing to lose.

He stood up from where he sat and cracked some bones with a little stretch, he was about to become a hero. A man who died a hero...noice.

He walked to the van that seemed empty and opened the door, nobody was yet to notice him because they were on the other side still beating up the young man and trying to drag him to their van.

Liam looked into the van and all he could see were weapons like guns and the rest, he shook his head because holding a gun would be too much. He picked up a short fat black rod and stepped out of the van and turned to the other side.

Liam used the rod to hit the van, the loud noise from it was more than enough to bring the five men's attention to him.

The four men stopped and the one who appeared to be the leader took a step toward but not close to Liam and he asked, "Who the hell are you?"

But instead of responding, Liam said, "Leave the young man alone."
