Chapter 62

I stood up and held Medeline in my arms. The girl was still crying; her face was hidden in my chest. She hadn't noticed that we were surrounded by a bunch of zombies, maybe even her mother.

I stepped back as they all approached us at once. Only then did Medeline raise her tear-stained face.

She looked up at me, then turned her head to the side. As soon as she saw what was around us, she tightened her arms around me.

"I'm scared, Uncle," she whispered in a trembling voice. Her former stern demeanour was gone. Perhaps because she felt I was the only one who could protect her now. She hid her face in my chest again, because the zombies' faces were very frightening.

I just kept quiet because I couldn't say anything to calm her down. Her eyes moved from left to right, watching them one by one. One of my arms was supporting the little girl's body, and one of my hands was now holding the wand.

I gripped the wand tightly and poured all my energy into it. Moments later, a line of light appeare
