What's Hidding

Oliver led Einer to a place; a part of the Perceus mansion that made Einer marvel at its splendor.

"Wow... I didn't think a place like this existed in this mansion," Einer said, following Oliver behind him. Oliver smiled as he guided.

"This is the training ground for the awakener in this house. They usually train in that building." Oliver pointed to a large stadium with an elegant futuristic design. "To withstand the great power of the awakener, that building was made with advanced technology and a super strong design. So, don't hold back during training, okay?"

Einer smiled faintly, a little shy when Oliver indirectly talked about his strength that Oliver always mentioned as the strongest candidate.

Through the glass-walled hallway that allowed Einer to see the vastness of the place where the Perceus awakener were, Einer saw the place he was going to with Oliver.

"What is this place?" asked Einer, when the metal door opened after Oliver opened it using his palm scanner.

"This is the laboratory where the genius scientists work. They all work for this family."

Einer stood awkwardly as the dozen or so scientists came to greet him, bowing their heads in obedience.

"Welcome, Sir Einer," they said in unison.

"Thank you." Einer did not know what to say.

"Einer, you can join them to get to know your powers well. They will explain to you about the power you have."

Einer hesitated a little, but it felt better when Oliver followed him and waited for him from outside the transparent room.

"Sir Einer, please sit here."

Einer sat on a chair, and the scientists began attaching several wires to his body as well as to both sides of his temples.

Einer could see his father talking to three senior scientists, they smiled as they looked at Einer as if they saw hope. Einer gave his father an awkward smile, but Oliver smiled warmly as if to tell Einer that everything was fine.

Einer allowed them to turn on the sophisticated device, and electrified Einer with a stream of electricity that seemed to flow through Einer's blood very gently.

Behind Einer, there was a large screen that displayed the condition of his body, including the potential power that Einer had. They smiled, then looked at Oliver and nodded once, after which the machine was turned off and finished.

"It's done, Sir Einer."

Oliver walked into the room towards Einer who was still confused, while the scientists left them. Einer wondered what made Oliver smile so widely.

"What happened? What did they say?" Einer asked.

"You really are my son."

"What?"

"What this screen shows is great hope, Einer. Your body is very good for possessing such immense power."

"So, what kind of power do I have? Is it a controlling power like Garden's?"

"No, it is not. Your power has much more potential than Garden's basic telekinesis. Your power is manipulation."

Einer was silent, not understanding.

"Ah, sorry. I'm so happy that I confused you," Oliver said. "In short, you have the power to mimic other people's powers, Einer. Your power can recognize, absorb and learn the powers of other awakener, just like you did that night."

"That night?"

"The night when the man named Chris beat you up and you injured him with your power. Do you remember how you did it? You copied Garden's powers."

Oliver's explanation sounded fast, the man was excited. But it made Einer even more confused.

That night Einer did use a power called telekinesis, he had thought it was a miracle and finally he knew that it was the power of awakening that he had. But now Oliver was saying that telekinesis was not Einer's power?

"The power of mimicry, it's a very rare power and has enormous potential. You could be the most powerful awakener, Einer! Your power is extraordinary!"

"Will I be able to mimic a power I've never seen before?" asked Einer, making Oliver listen to him. "I've never met Garden and seen her power before in your room, or... I never even knew the power of awakening existed. So how was I able to copy Garden's power that night?"

Oliver smiled before explaining.

"I already told you; your body recognizes, senses, and mimics other awakening powers that are around you. At that time, Garden was near where you were and she sensed another awakening force nearby. When she came to you, she discovered that you were the one who had just used the awakening power."

"So Garden can also sense other awakening powers nearby?"

"Yes, but she can't copy it. All awakener can sense other powers, but no one is as lucky as you to have this kind of power. Seeing us destroyed by our own power, it is a nightmare. You are a nightmare for your enemies, Einer."

Einer slowly understood the explanation Oliver gave.

"Does my power have any limits?"

"We can't know for sure as long as we haven't seen you use it, so you will still be monitored so that we can help you recognize your power."

Einer said nothing, until Oliver touched his shoulder while smiling warmly.

"Your body is adapting well to your power; the control is very high. An awakening power that is not well controlled by the owner's body would be a disaster."

Einer also had no idea that his body had such good control over his power, because he had never known that he had this kind of power and he had never felt it.

"Does mom know that I'm an awakener?" asked Einer, Oliver looked at him and was silent for a few seconds.

"She knows," said Oliver, "that's why she wants to take you away from me."

Einer was quite stunned to hear that.

Oliver knelt down and looked at Einer warmly, while Einer was still in his chair.

"Some people who already know the existence of the awakening power will misunderstand it. They'll think of it as a miracle, but if it's such a powerful miracle, why didn't it come to them? Why did it come to someone else? Such questions ultimately only breed envy and jealousy, which drives them to desperate measures. Forbidden research was created, they did everything they could to steal the power from the awakeners, and put it in their bodies. I almost made you feel that bad thing, son."

Einer was quiet, not expecting to hear that about her mother.

"Is her trying to take away the power I have?" Oliver's silence was an answer that made Einer even more dumbfounded. "But during that time me, mother and Eleonor just lived as ordinary people, mother never introduced me to these kinds of things."

"Of course she wouldn't," Oliver replied quickly, "a sheep that is about to be slaughtered never sees the blade except on the day its neck is cut, it only sees the green grass that is spread out or that the farmer brings to its pen, and only feels the gentle strokes and hears the praise that it has grown healthy."

Einer looked shocked, unable to speak.

He looked in disbelief at Oliver who was holding his hand.

"I'm sorry for telling you this, Einer, you must not be ready to hear the truth from the woman who treated you so well."

"The day that mother disappeared with Eleonor, do you know what she would have done? Would she do that to Eleonor?"

Oliver considered, before finally answering, "Almost."

Einer was again at a loss for words, his pupils were trembling and his saliva seemed hard to swallow. Oliver felt guilty for telling the truth before he confirmed Einer's readiness to listen.

"Should we go back now? I think you can start your training when you're ready, during that time, we can talk about other things to mend this very cold and tenuous relationship."
