The World of the Awakened

Einer couldn't drive the car because his head was still a little dizzy, so Garden took his place.

During the way home, Garden was so silent that it made Einer think; people who didn't know would think Garden couldn't speak.

Einer didn't know how to break this awkward silence, until he saw the small plaster on Garden's forehead.

"Lady Garden, I apologize for the wound on your head from that day." Einer had almost forgotten the day he made blood flow down Garden's forehead.

Einer thought Garden wouldn't answer, but the woman said, "It doesn't matter, you were just trying to survive."

"But aren't you angry?"

"I'm used to this kind of thing, and I've had plenty of chances to get it back at you, so don't be shy."

Einer swallowed awkwardly, not thinking he would receive such a cold reply but he smiled. "Alright, I'll try to be strong enough to receive your revenge... Garden."

Garden glanced at Einer coldly at the man calling her name.

"You said not to be shy," if Garden took issue with Einer calling her like they were close friends, "and also, we are siblings."

"Don't get your hopes up, especially since you still haven't proven your worthiness to be a Perceus to the others. You have the privilege just because you're father's son."

Einer was a little confused by Garden's words, but their car stopped in front of a convenience store.

"Are you going to buy something?" asked Einer, but Garden ignored him and got out of the car. Einer followed her. "Garden, please buy me some cold water. I want to compress my wound."

Garden still ignored him and entered the convenience store.

"Gosh, do I look like a ghost in her eyes?" asked Einer, a little annoyed but then he smiled. "If I were a ghost, she wouldn't have helped me. At least she helped me even if it was just for formality."

Einer leaned back in his car and waited for Garden. The beauty and luxury of the car amazed him once again, and again questioned this reality that seemed like a dream.

"It's amazing, Einer; in one night you went through so many steps, it made you surpass people faster than normal speed. You're very lucky," Einer said, momentarily forgetting his headache as he mused. "It would be great if I used this great opportunity to find mom, I could definitely find her faster."

Einer was deep in thought, when suddenly the rain came heavily and without warning.

"Oh my, why is it suddenly raining?" Einer panicked, the rainwater seemed to soak his body quickly and when he was about to open the car door, he saw the surroundings were very dry. "What the...?"

Einer was stunned, and as he looked at the ground, the wet area formed a circle that locked onto Einer only. A localized rain that only soaked one person; a very strange phenomenon until Einer heard someone laughing.

"Haha! That's so funny. Look at his confused face."

"Lloyd, you shouldn't have gotten him soaked."

Einer looked at some men walking towards him, dressed casually but without losing the sense of luxury that showed where they came from.

"You don't have to go overboard, Arthur," said the man named Lloyd, standing in front of Einer, "this is our small welcome to the new member of the Perceus family." Lloyd smiled in front of Einer's face, but it was not friendliness.

Einer didn't know who they were and what their business was to meet him, but looking at the first impression Einer got, Einer could conclude that those people were neither his friends nor Perceus' friends.

The man named Arthur, approached Einer. He looked calmer and smiled at Einer.

"Please forgive my friend, he's always been very enthusiastic to the point of being a little careless and showing his power in public. I am Arthur Grey," Arthur said.

"So... he's an awaken?"

"Yes, he's quite a talented waterbender."

"Hah, who you called 'quite talented'?! I'm already very talented, you know!" Lloyd was not having it, but his two other friends pulled him back from Arthur who just smiled as if asking Einer to forgive Lloyd.

"Are you also an awaken?" Einer asked Arthur.

"Yes. We're awakens from the Grey family; he's Lloyd, Roan and Calix," Arthur introduced his friends to Einer politely, making Einer drop his guard a little. "We were just walking around here and saw lady Garden Perceus getting out of the car followed by you, and we rashly thought that you were the new member of the Perceus family that they were talking about. Sorry if we were mistaken, we should have known that the awakens of Perceus don't have a weak aura."

But it was in vain that Einer expected something friendly, it seemed that Arthur's sweet face was just a trick to cover his nature that was the same as Lloyd. He indirectly mentioned that Einer didn't have the aura of Perceus at all.

"I'm the one you're looking for," Einer said firmly, "the new member of the Perceus family... I'm that one."

"Oh, so we're not mistaken?"

"Yes, you're not mistaken. I am Einer Perceus."

"So your name is Einer...," Arthur said, then suddenly came so close that Einer seemed to be able to look into his cold eyes. "I wonder what kind of great power you have that you can be one of Perceus."

After saying that with a different cold face than he had a second ago, Arthur moved back away and smiled again.

"I look forward to what our next encounter will be like, Einer; enjoy your new life as an awaken. Next time I will take responsibility for what Lloyd did."

"Or make you even wetter! Haha!"

"Lloyd, enough."

After saying that, Arthur and his friends left Einer who was still standing in front of the open car door. He was at a loss, not knowing how to react to his first encounter with Arthur of the House of Grey.

So when Garden was done with her business, Einer wanted to ask immediately, but the woman was silent and seemed surprised to see Einer.

"Did you accidentally get into the sewer?" asked Garden, walking to the car.

"Well... there are some people who want to get acquainted with me so this is their welcome."

"That doesn't make any sense."

"They awakens too and one of them is named Arthur Grey."

Garden spontaneously shut up even though the engine was already running.

"What did you say? Arthur Grey came to see you?"

"Yes...."

"Someone named Lloyd must have done this to you."

"Wow, cool! How did you know?" Einer closed his mouth tightly as Garden gave him a sharp look. "Ow, I mean... yeah, you definitely know them. But I didn't see them as bad people until you had to react like this."

"Huft... you'll stop thinking of them as good until you meet them again."

Garden brought Einer home and he was greeted by Robert who was shocked at Einer's appearance.

"My goodness, Sir Einer, what happened?"

"Calm down, Robert. I didn't crash the car into the garden pond to make me look like this. It's just that there were people who wanted to get acquainted with me earlier."

"Were they awakens?"

"Yes. One of them is named Arthur Grey."

Robert gave the same reaction as Garden. He paused as he was about to take Einer to his room.

"Grey? Really?"

"Why? You give same reaction as Garden. Who exactly is Arthur Grey?"

Robert followed Einer to his room, behind him were several maids ready to assist Einer.

"Sir Einer, the Grey family is the biggest rival of the Perceus family."

"Oh really? Rivals...?"

"Yes. Do you think only the Perceus family has awakens?"

"I thought so. I was also quite surprised when they introduced themselves as awakens. I thought awakens lived a very secretive life and hid their abilities from the general public."

"You're right. The existence of awakens in this world is still a strange and unusual thing, so ordinary people try not to know about them. But there are also many people who know of the existence of awakens and look after them, especially in a school dedicated to training the world's best awakens."

"There's a school for awakens? Wow ...."

Einer sat on his bed and listened to Robert carefully, while the maids were drying his body with soft towels.

"Awakens are a valuable asset to a country, so as long as they are hidden, they are also well taken care of and trained. But for a family that adopts awakens, their existence is also an attempt to maintain the family's power and honor. The more powerful awakens a family has, the higher the family's status will be in the eyes of certain people."

"Is Perceus' status below Grey's? I infer your explanation."

Robert smiled slightly before answering. "For strength, Perceus and Grey are indeed equal or perhaps Perceus is stronger because there are more awakens in this family. But for name and honor, the Greys are better known because they are the loyal dogs of the government."

"Isn't being the strongest without having your neck tied up pretty cool? Perceus is cooler than Grey."

"You're right, Sir," Robert said, "but the government is the ruler of this country, and being the favorite of those in control would be very beneficial. At the very least, they won't hear ugliness juxtaposed with their surname, as Perceus has all these times."

"But isn't Perceus stronger? What's keeping this family from proving its electability?" asked Einer, their discussion getting more and more interesting.

Robert replied, "Well... Perceus is just a little less compact." Robert's answer left Einer a little dumbfounded. But he quickly added. "But sir Oliver no longer needs to worry, because you are already here, Sir Einer."

"I'm already here? What does that mean?"

Robert helped Einer to put on his clothes while Einer waited for Robert's answer.

"Because sie Oliver knows your abilities. Only you can single-handedly bring this family to its former glory. Therefore you should be proud, Sir Einer, you are the strongest Perceus that sir Oliver is proud of."

After Einer finished changing, Robert took him to Oliver's study and said that Oliver was waiting for him inside.

When the door opened, Einer saw Oliver sitting in his work chair and seemed to be smiling at Einer like he had been waiting for this time.

"Hello again, Einer. Ready to start your training?"
