Chapter 2

Slowly, Matthias got up from his bed, afraid that the person behind that door might be somehow connected to Aira’s sugar daddy or to the money accidentally sent to him.

He walked to the door and peeked outside to see who’s there, but he saw no one.

Bang!

This is not a knock anymore, he thought. Whoever is outside seems to be impatient.

Gathering all his courage, he opened the door, wishing that a good talk can solve any of those misunderstandings.

However, in spite of all those preparations, Matthias fell into disappointment when the person he saw was their apartment owner.

Ms. Greta, the overweight owner of their place, immediately showed her palm in front of Matthias. Her ugly face that’s already sagging from having too much fat is stretched a bit as she looks up at the young man.

“So what now, have you already decided?” she asked like a commander. “Or you can pay your rent if you don’t want to.”

Matthias showed her his empty wallet and asked if he can just pay next month but Ms. Greta just sneered at him before acting a bit flirty.

“Matty… I told you to consider my offer. Else, you’ll need to pay the rent. Don’t you want to live a better life?” Ms. Greta said like a child trying to coo her parents.

Matthias understood her but he outright rejected the offer.

Living a better life for him does not mean waking up beside a barbecue-smelling whale everyday. He’s unlike Aira who can swallow pride in the name of money.

“How about next week? I promise, I’ll pay you next week,” Matthias pleaded while trying not to puke in front of the owner’s nausea-inducing face.

If only he did not try to flatter Aira too much, then maybe he would have money to pay his bills and wouldn’t be in trouble over debts.

He thought about using the 5 million in his account, but that’s out of the question for now until he learned where it came from.

Who knows, maybe if he spends it, he will end up in jail instead because it’s someone else's money and only a bank error.

Trouble is the least thing he wanted to have right now in order to graduate quietly.

Ms. Greta clicked her tongue. “No,” she said, disapproving Matthias’ request.

“Decide now. Be my boy and live here for free – I’ll even give you 3 000 pocket money every month or leave?”

Matthias stepped back to his room.

He knows well how much Ms. Greta wanted him.

She even installed CCTVs in his area to watch him and threw soup at Aira before, when he went back home with her.

“I can’t, Ms. Greta. But don’t worry, I’ll really pay you up next week. Promise.”

“Promise, promise! You, brat. I don’t need empty promises. If you can’t pay up, live under the bridge!” Ms. Greta shouted at him.

Matthias stood there unmoving for a couple of minutes, lost at what he’s going to do to solve his problems.

Does he really need to stomach sleeping with this piggy woman?

No, no. It can’t be. That’s something that he cannot do to himself.

No matter what happens, he won’t stoop that low.

And even though he has a bunch of money in his possession, using that to escape his predicament is a huge no.

Then, maybe… he should move out?

Matthias shook his head, what the heck is he thinking.

That money is not his to begin with. And moving out also costs money.

Yet, before he can come up to a clear solution, his neighbor’s door slammed open, revealing a still sleepy girl in her loose tank tops and shorts.

“Why are you so noisy?” she asked in her slightly hoarse voice.

Ms. Greta, sensing that the commotion annoyed her other tenants, gave a welcoming smile and explained that it’s Matthias fault for not paying his rent on time.

To solve it quickly and go back to her peaceful sleep, the girl offered to pay Matthias’ rent and handed out several hundreds of cash to Ms. Greta.

“Will you let me have my sleep now? I swear, I badly need that sleep as someone who works the night shift. But, you guys, are so f*cking noisy.”

Yawning, she gave Matthias a side-glance. “And please, pay your rent to this fat ass on time.”

Ms. Greta’s face turned red like pepper when she heard the comment. “W-who’s a fat ass? You’re just a tenant here, I have the right to kick you out. But you’re calling me a fat ass? What is this? Don’t pay for other people and let them solve their problems themselves.”

But the girl isn’t listening to Ms. Greta’s whining anymore.

“And you,” Ms. Greta pointed at Matthias, “we’re not done yet. This would be the last time that I’ll let this slide because you’re handsome but if this happens again, I’ll expel you without a word.”

With that, Ms. Greta left them alone, dragging her heavy body upstairs to go back to the control room and count today’s money.

After Ms. Greta was gone, Matthias approached the kind neighbor.

“Uh… don’t worry, I will pay you–”

Out!

He’s left outside alone after the neighbor shut her door closed without talking to him.

Although embarrassed, Matthias can’t do anything but scratch the back of his neck and slowly walk away to go back to his own room.

And just when he’s about to lock his door, a call from an unknown number appeared on his screen.

“Yes? Matthias speaking,” he politely says.

“Hello Master Matthias, I called to confirm if you already received the 5 million dollars in your account today,” the man from the other line informed him.

“M-master Matthias?” he repeated, voice trembling and unsure if he really heard it right that he’s been addressed as Master.

“Yes, Master Matthias.”

“You mean, me?” he asked again, still in the process of accepting his reality.

“I’m talking about you, Master Matthias Claude.”

“Then the 5 million dollars are mine,” he concluded.

“Exactly, Master,” the man affirmed.

Astounded, Matthias almost dropped his phone from over excitement. Whether it is a dream or not, what’s happening right now is the best thing that happened to him.

But he can’t show his happiness openly so, he celebrated silently; punching the air excitedly and jumping multiple times.

He’s like a kid in ecstasy when all of a sudden, the man spoke again.

“If you have any more questions, Master Matthias, the president would be glad to answer those personally. You can find him at the 99th Floor of CNC Group Building. Please have a good day.”

Good day? This may be the most chaotic day but is the best because with that amount of money, he’s sure that he can finish his degree without a hitch.

But wait, why did he suddenly receive millions of dollars?

With that being said, Matthias still decided to meet the CNC President himself to thank him personally.

With his money, the first thing that he bought is an expensive suit from the most luxurious shop that he knows. A sparkly silver watch and a chain that dangles so bright around his neck. And a pair of shoes that’s smoother than Aira’s cakey face.

Two o’clock in the afternoon.

Matthias is so confident with his looks and demeanor when he enters the famous CNC Group Building, the biggest company there is in their city.

At first, he thought that he could stroll casually inside with his new outfit, but he’s not even inside yet when a guard stopped him from his tracks.

He smiled. Matthias already knows that only elites can work in this company, but what did the guard say to him?

“Sir, I apologize, but we don’t accept beggars here.”

Matthias’ eyes widened. A beggar, him?

He looked down at his new clothes.

The fuck costed him more than the payment for his rent and miscellaneous fees, and he still thinks that he’s a beggar?

Still, who is he?

He’s Matthias Claude, and he’s personally invited to the top floor of this building to talk with the boss about his money.

In the end, he ignored the guard and continued walking.

But the guard won’t back down easily, and he dragged Matthias out of the building.

“Can’t you understand, I need to go there. Inside,” Matthias reasoned out.

“But we really don’t allow people like you to go inside.”

“Like me?” Matthias gritted his teeth.

He remembered how Aira belittled him yesterday because of being poor.

After receiving the 5 million dollars, he thought that his life would be better. But does this mean that he’s still way too low compared to people working here?

Seeing the commotion on the door, a person stationed at the reception approached them and asked if Matthias made an appointment.

“Of course!” he confidently answered. “He told me to go to the 99th floor.”

The guard and the reception officer looked at each other.

The 99th floor? That’s where the office of the top boss is. Did they make a mistake by stopping this man?

To go on with the procedures, the reception officer asked who invited Matthias to the top floor, but he couldn't answer it. In fact, he has no idea who called him last night.

“Uh… wait. He had a deep voice and…” Matthias thought of ways to tell them who called him but the guards really won’t agree with him.

“We’re sorry, but we can’t let you go in,” the reception officer said before nudging Matthias to go out.

But what happened next caused a huge scene on the first floor because Matthias ran to an opening lift, shaking away both the reception officer and the guard.

“Sorry,” he apologized to the sexy lady he accidentally bumped into in a hurry.

Then he noticed how her coffee spilled on her blouse, giving a clear silhouette of her chest.

“Sorry. Really, I am.” Matthias said in panic and reflexively wiped the stain with his hands only to realize soon after that his hand was on her breast, making the woman scream and call her a pervert.

“Aaaah!” the woman screamed, attracting all the attention of the people nearby and the guards chasing after Matthias.

Betting everything to his luck, Matthias pushed the woman out of the lift and pressed the close button as he waved goodbye to the guards approaching them.

At the same time, Noelle stood up with an aching butt.

“What are you doing? Chase him,” Noelle commanded the guards who came to catch Matthias.

But the guards just lowered their heads to Manager Noelle Vesta.

“We can’t do that now, Ma’am, since that guy is headed to the top floor where the CEO works. As per company rules, we can’t go up without permission.”

Noelle pulled the sticky blouse away from her skin with an annoyed look plastered on her face.

She’s clearly not in the mood, but she smiled, thinking about what she will do to that mannerless guy.

“Is that so?” she asked the guards. “Then wait for him to come down again. I will surely make him pay for this designer top that he messed up… and more.”
