Chapter 3

Matthias stared for a long time on his trembling hands.

He can still feel a bit of what he touched earlier.

He needs to apologize for that girl that he accidentally touched but on a second note, will he see her again, right in this huge building?

Frustrated, he simply glared at his reflection on the elevator’s wall and sighed.

Ah! Focus, Matthias. He scolded himself.

Then, ding!

The elevator opened exactly at the 99th floor.

Other than him, no one else used the lift so the tightening in his chest got worse from the unknown feeling that’s in between nervousness and anticipation of what’s coming next.

But alas, he’s here. There’s no way he can turn back now.

The lift opens and what welcomes him is a spacious and glamorous office filled with expensive items from furniture to the small trinkets that seem like art pieces.

Hearing the door open, the man sitting comfortably on his chair glanced at the lift to see who came.

Seeing Matthias face, he immediately rose from his seat and greeted him politely. “Welcome, Master Matthias,” he said.

Matthias studied the man carefully.

Expensive suit, shoes and eyeglasses, he knew at a glance that what he thought of as an already expensive item is just trash compared to this man’s belongings.

“It’s good that you arrived safely here, Master Matthias. Let me introduce myself, I am Harold Owen, the owner and acting CEO of this humble company.”

And he bowed again to show his sincerity to Matthias.

Matthias’s eyes widened.

What is this old man saying and doing? Humble?

Then what is he, some sort of a market flea compared to this almost royalty of a businessman? The richest man in this city?!

“Ah…err.”

Damn it! His tongue failed him.

What is it that he needs to say again?

“It seems like you’re still confused, Master Matthias. Do you care if we sit first so we can talk in comfort?”

Matthias nodded and followed where the man led him to seat.

“Do you need some coffee or juice, Master Matthias?”

Again, Matthias just nods, still stupefied on what he’s witnessing.

“Juice is fine and please don’t call me Master it…it doesn’t suit me.”

The man chuckled lightheartedly.

“What are you saying, Master Matthias? It is me who doesn’t hold a candle to you,” Mr. Owen told him as he poured juice into Matthias' glass and served it to him.

“I will be direct. All of this is because of what happened in the past.”

Mr. Owen started and checked on Matthias who looked very interested in what he’s about to say.

“If you remember the man that you helped five years ago in a fire incident inside the mall, then everything will be easy for you to understand.”

The man paused to drink his own coffee.

He took a look at Matthias, who keeps tapping his knees from nervousness.

“Relax,” he told him, trying to calm down Matthias.

“As I told you. This is all related to what happened years ago. That man that you save is Mr. Eusebio Ferrer of Ferrerio Groups that holds most banks and automobile companies worldwide. Even the university that you were enrolled in right now operates under the funds of his company.”

Matthias raised his hand that stopped Mr. Owen from narrating what happened.

“Wait, does this mean–”

“You’re correct, Master Matthias. That’s also the reason why you got a full scholarship from that university. Although he wanted to help you more, he can’t do that since people targeting him might also look at you as an enemy.”

Enemy?

Matthias rose on his feet.

Will he have an enemy because he’s received help without him knowing?

“Please sit down, Master Matthias,” Mr. Owen pleaded to him.

“You don’t need to worry about that since the Great Master entrusted you to me, I’m going to aid you with the best of my capabilities. Even before, when he’s secretly helping you, I am the one doing the tasks to serve you.”

A gulp before a sigh. Matthias’ head hangs low.

“T-then, if it’s him who wanted to thank me, why are you the one explaining these things to me? And entrusted? I think you’re holding back the most important parts. It’s not like I am a baby that needs someone to help me.”

Mr. Owen’s face darkened at Matthias’ question.

“I am sorry to say this but… the Great Master died two days ago.”

Crash!

The glass that Matthias was holding slipped from his hand when he heard Mr. Owen’s revelation.

“Why? Why is this not announced in the news? This must be–”

“I’m afraid not, Master Matthias. Things connected with powerful people are usually not presented in the media since they would rather swim on money than on controversies.”

“But celebrities–”

“The Great Master is more influential than your loved celebrities, Master Matthias and you… you’re the sole heir of all those properties and influence.”

Matthias choked at his own tongue.

It feels like the air around him stopped for a moment when he heard the truth from Mr. Owen’s tongue.

“Here,” Mr. Owen added.

“As long as you sign here, you’ll be the legal owner of everything the Great Master owns.”

Matthias read the document.

Like what Mr. Owen told him, it will really transfer all of Eusebio Ferrer’s property to him.

It’s just that at the end of it is a condition he can’t shake.

“Hey!” he shouted, which alerted Mr. Owen.

“What is the meaning of this last line? Do I really need to marry this Mirella Faith to get all the money else, I’ll only have half of it?”

Mr. Owen studied the document again, it seems like he also overlooked that specific requirement.

After reading it thrice, Mr. Owen gave back the papers to Matthias.

“Of course it is, Master Matthias. If it is the Great Master’s request, then that needs to be done for you to inherit his legacy.”

Matthias thought for a while.

Fine. If he really needs to marry that girl then that’s fine.

Then Ms. Greta’s face suddenly appeared in his thoughts.

Matthias coughed.

Well if push comes to shove and she’s someone who looks like that stinky whale then a total plastic surgery is just what needs to be done.

Money can solve anything.

Full of conviction that money will just solve any problem that he’ll face, Matthias signed the document and immediately received the infamous black card of the socialites.

Unlimited money, millions and billions of dollars?

That’s not a problem anymore.

Triumphing over this sudden streak of luck, Matthias raised his hand holding the black card and smiled at Mr. Owen, who clapped his hands over the successful transaction with him.

“If you need to clarify something more or in need of my assistance, you can always come back here, Master Matthias, as I am your loyal subordinate from now on.”

Matthias grinned at the wealthy man in front of him.

“Sure, Mr. Owen”

The two said goodbye after Mr. Owen made sure that his contact number was saved on Matthias' phone.

He also made sure to tell him that he can call him anytime that he wants because Matthias is the great master’s successor.

But when Matthias reached the ground floor once again, he was immediately subdued by the guards that were being led by a beautiful woman.

Wait, that woman?

Matthias smiled.

Well, there is always an up and down in a man’s life and he just received his highest up. Now is the turn for a down.

“So, you can still smile in this situation?” Noelle arrogantly said to him.

“I apologize for what happened earlier, Miss…”

“Hmpf! You don’t need to know my name” Noelle answered.

“Then how should I address you?”

Noelle raised the corner of her lips. “Maybe a deity, because our status is like heaven and earth.”

Cackling at her own witty lines, Noelle looked down at Matthias.

“Why don’t you kneel properly this time and apologize, maybe in that way I won’t make the police arrest you.”

Matthias’ eyes narrowed at Noelle’s snarky remarks. So, there’s also another version of Aira here?

Ha, bitches.

Matthias is already thinking about what he will say to Mr. Owen, when a voice suddenly rang across the lobby where he was surrounded by the guards.

“What are you doing?” the voice said, full of authority. "Why are you all gathered here?"

And when everyone looked to see who it was, an angry Mr. Owen was all that they saw.
