Chapter 8

The day before Cheska’s birthday party, Matthias decided to buy the things that he’ll need to look presentable in the party.

Wearing his usual jeans and plain black shirt, he went to the mall to buy what he needed.

Remembering how his last feud with Aira and Jared ended, Matthias smirked at the anticipation of what's going to happen next if he’ll show up at that party completely different from before.

He first stopped at the gadget store to look for another phone.

Matthias walked by the glass drawers and read the specs of each displayed phone one by one.

Hmm?

He thought deeply about what he should buy since all of it already looks so luxurious.

Thankfully, a male shop assistant walked towards him.

“What is it that you’re looking for, Sir?” the shop assistant asked him.

“Can you recommend a good phone?”

The assistant did not hesitate and guided Matthias at the most luxurious phone on the display.

“Is this worth it?”

Matthias checked the specs properly.

Well, what matters is that he can still text and receive calls. After all, that’s the only role of phones for him.

“How much is this?” he asked the assistant,

“Half a million dollars, Sir.”

Half a million?!

And it’s not even a luxury phone or something that’s made from diamonds.

If it’s just a few days ago, he might have fainted from the price but that’s if this is from a few days ago.

He already received grace from the Great Master Ferrer, so that much isn’t a problem anymore.

Matthias quickly took out the black card from his pocket and asked the assistant to pay the thing using the card, shocking the people in the place since usually, it is paid in installments.

Soon after, Matthias walked out of the store with a new phone in his hand.

Grinning, he looked around a bit more confident than before.

“What’s next?” he asked himself.

“Ah, right. Clothes.”

Matthias walked around and came across Giarnino, a clothing line that’s famous even for celebrities.

“I think this one will do.”

But as soon as Matthias stepped inside the shop, he’s welcomed by dirty glares from the shop assistants.

No one tried to approach him and even if they did spare him a glance, it’s only to check whether he’s really there to buy something or not.

Matthias sighed.

He forgot that he sometimes goes to this shop to deliver fried chicken from his part time job.

So, they probably know him as that poor delivery boy.

Well, isn’t this going to be exciting? He thought as he smirked.

Convinced that no one would help him shop, Matthias started walking around on his own to check the displayed items.

“Y-yes?”

Matthias turned around to see who spoke and saw a tall girl with rectangular frames and braided hair.

“May I help you?” the girl asked Matthias.

But instead of answering, Matthias returned her question with another question.  “Are you new here?”

“Ah…hm, yes. I’m an intern,” she replied and pointed at her name tag with her nickname, Joyce.

“Then maybe that’s why you’re not familiar with my face,” Matthias muttered in a low voice as he touched the soft fabric of the items worn by the mannequin.

But the girl heard him.

“Uhm, they say that…”

Joyce can’t continue the words that she’s going to say since even though she knows that Matthias will not buy anything, it doesn’t change the fact that he’s a potential customer.

“How much is this?” Matthias said, interrupting her thoughts.

“Ah, the set is 152 000 dollars.”

Hearing Joyce answer Matthias so eagerly, the other shop assistants laughed at the intern.

“Then that, how much is that and what is it made of? Can I try it?” Matthias continuously asked the intern as he pointed out a gray suit.

“Ah…yes. Yes,” Joyce answered despite his co-workers' reactions.

Then out of nowhere, a blondie walked past Joyce and Matthias.

“What try? You’re just going to put your foul sweat on our items,” the blondie ranted as she walked and smiled menacingly at Joyce.

But Joyce isn’t someone who will back down either.

She just ignored the comment and introduced Matthias to her superior to try on different sets.

Although skeptical at her intern’s decision, the manager, Almira, let it slide for once, thinking that this will teach a lesson to Joyce.

“Are you sure?” she asked Joyce one more time.

“Well, he might buy something,” Joyce said with a smile.

“I’ll deduct the cleaning fee from your salary if he did not buy anything,” the manager stated.

Joyce glanced at Matthias. She’s sure that he heard that but Matthias look not bothered at all.

“Hm, my mom says I’m lucky?” Joyce just stated unsure now if she’ll get her monthly salary.

“Hmpf!”

But when Matthias tried the suits on him, he undoubtedly turned into a dashing young man.

The statement ‘tall, dark, and handsome’ perfectly fits him as he looks like a tanned prince in those fits.

This made Joyce clap.

The sight is so good that she might just think that she used her salary to meet a celebrity.

Jealous, the blondie made another remark. “Look at that, the outfit might suit him but in the end, he won’t be able to afford the items.”

The others laugh at the blondie’s comment.

“I admit that he’s handsome but we’re doing business here. Don’t worry, if he can’t then Joyce will be the one paying the damages,” the manager assured her other employees.

Joyce, who heard all of this, hangs her head low despite the bliss that she’s feeling when she sees Matthias change so much in a different clothing.

She even caught Matthias looking at the price tag as if not satisfied with it.

Joyce guessed that he won’t really buy anything even though she let him try the cheapest sets.

Disappointed, she continued catering to Matthias.

“Are the sets to your liking, Sir?” she asked.

“Uh, yes,” Matthias answered. “But I won’t buy these things,” he continued and pointed at the clothes he tried previously.

Hearing that, the laughter inside the store became louder.

“See, I told you. He won’t buy anything,” the blondie said as if giving bad comments is her role.

The manager even told her other staff to take the clothes away and place it for dry cleaning.

“Calculate the fees and Joyce will take care of it,” she said to her staff.

While Joyce felt humiliated, Matthias smiled at her, making her heart skip a beat.

“What are you saying?” Matthias told the blondie. “I just won’t buy those cheap items but aside from those, I’ll buy everything you have here in your shop.”

The blondie scoffed at Matthias.

“Are you crazy? Did you successfully make a huge delivery yesterday and you’re so proud today? Excuse me, just save your money for your everyday expenses. I’m just concerned for you.”

The staff laughed again at Matthias and to their fake pity except Joyce, who got mesmerized at Matthias serious expression.

“Are you really going to buy it?” she asked Matthias.

“Yes, please pack it all up and someone will pick it up later.”

But the spiteful blondie won't stop belittling Matthias.

“Pack it? I forgot to tell you but even if it's going to be picked by someone, you still need to pay upfront. We can’t pack items that aren’t paid. Hah! What can I expect from a –”

“Okay,” Matthias cut to her litany and showed the black card he just used earlier to pay for his phone.

“W-what?”

Everyone was astonished, especially the manager and the blondie when the black card really worked and everything was paid.

But more than that, everyone feels jealousy over Joyce since she’ll get 30% of those sales on top of her basic salary.

They all thought that if it’s them who assisted Matthias, then the money would be theirs.

“How can that be?!” the brunette assistant, who kept watching on the sidelines until now, shouted.

She can’t take it that Joyce made a huge sale today despite her being the senior there.

“I’m sure that he stole the card!” the brunette accused Matthias.

“How can you have such a card if you’re just a delivery guy? Don’t mess with us, you thief.”

Then she called the guard and pointed at Matthias, who just finished paying up.

“Arrest him and tell the police to come here. Whoever owns the card will probably look for his card now. Tell them that we caught the thief.”

Annoyed at the accusation, Matthias tried to defend himself.

“Hey this b–”

But the mall manager, David Arthur, came, since he’s doing his usual rounds in the mall.

The brunette quickly pointed her fingers to Matthias and told David that Matthias is making a scene when in fact it is her who keeps shouting since earlier.

“He’s a thief. He paid us with a stolen card, Sir,” the brunette pushed on.

“Thinking of it, maybe he’s working with this bitch right here and they planned all of this,” she said, accusing Joyce with Matthias.

David watched the scene carefully and when the brunette stopped with her accusations, he approached Matthias.

“Can you let me see your card?” he asked Matthias, who's already on the edge of losing his temper.

Matthias showed the card and David instantly saw the emblem of Ferrerio Groups in it and the name of the card holder.

How can he make a mistake recognizing that emblem when it is the same company who owns more than 50% of their stocks. They’re basically the owner of the whole shopping center.

“Is your name Matthias Claude, S-sir?” David asked slowly, not wishing to mess with the wrong person.

“Yes, that’s me. Do you want my ID?” Matthias told him.

“Haha, no, Sir. I am just…asking if it’s really you who owns this card,” David said while wiping down the sweat from his forehead.

They almost made a mistake with the wrong person.

“Do you want me to call someone to prove my identity?” Matthias told David. “I can call Harold Owen if you want to.”

David froze for a moment.

Mr. Owen?! That ruthless CEO of CNC Group?

He laughed at the ridiculousness of his own staff and the impending doom of his career if he will accuse this man as a thief.

“There’s…there’s no need for that, Sir. We will solve this misunderstanding immediately.”

Seeing David’s anxiety, Matthias smiled knowingly.

“Hey, do you know Ferrerio Groups?” he asked, emphasizing the company name on which David nodded immediately.

“It’s in my name now,” Matthias whispered to David. “So you better give that girl, Joyce, a better position and dismiss the bitches from your employees. Understood?”

David nodded at Matthias’ words once more.

There’s no way that he will say no to his requests and immediately dismiss the staff from that specific store except Joyce and a few others who shut their mouths up when the brunette made a scene.

“Is this okay?” David asked Matthias when he finished sorting out the mess.

“Yes, that’s good,” Matthias agreed. “But it will be better if you demote the shop manager who’ll easily make her staff pay for everything.”

The shop manager’s face turned pale when she heard Matthias demoting her.

“Ah that–”

“And promote the kind shop assistant to be the shop manager, right?”

As expected, David did not say a word and just did what Matthias said, surprising all of those who witnessed the scene.

With that, a question rose even to the onlookers, who got interested at what’s happening.

Who… is that guy?
