Chapter 7

No one spoke at the dining table but each of them tried to enjoy the sumptuous meal in front of them.

But one prayer is common for every person sitting on the table except for Matthias.

Everyone hope that Matthias will keep his word and pay half of the meal’s price, else they will be left with no more allowance for the rest of the year.

The atmosphere remained like that until the staff placed desserts on the table that changed everyone’s tightened stomach in an instant.

Well, except for two people – Aira and Jared, who’ll be paying half of the bills of today’s party.

Not waiting for his pig-classmates to finish, Jared put down his fork.

Then he, contemplated how he’ll approach his father to lend him some money today.

Aira made a side look at his boyfriend and to his ex-boyfriend, Matthias.

She’s thinking where did Matthias take the confidence to order a gold menu for all of them?

Just a day ago, he’s nothing but a delivery man living in a worn down apartment.

But he’s here now and although he’s wearing a bit expensive clothes today– that did not hide his poverty-driven life at all.

Jared finished his food in haste and went out momentarily and left Aira, who can sense his shortness in money.

Even though Aira can help with the money given to her by his sugar daddy, she remained silent and watched Jared panic as he thought of what he’ll do next to pay the bills.

“How can I give him my money like that,” Aira thought to herself. “It’s mine.”

Finally, the manager personally came down to present their bill for the large number of guests.

The manager smiled politely and handed the bill to Jared, who looks like the leader of these kids.

“A 100 000 dollars?!” Jared shouted when he saw the bill with too many place values. “You want me to pay this hundred grand?”

What he had in his card right now is a little over 10 000.

And that’s not even half of what he’s supposed to pay!

Then an idea popped into his head and that is to blame all of these to Matthias.

First, he’ll show the amount and when Matthias told them that he can’t pay then he’ll tell the manager that all of them are scammed by that poor guy.

Jared glanced at Matthias.

Thankfully, the idiot is still eating peacefully with his dumb friends.

“Yo, Matthias. Time to pay up,” Jared said in an intimidating manner and showed the bill to Matthias.

“I only need to pay the half right?” Matthias asked when he saw the bill.

“Of course my dear Matthias, just half of it and–”

Jared’s words were left hanging in the air when Matthias called for the manager.

“Did you hear that? I am paying the half,” Matthias casually told the manager before giving out his black card.

“And please add some 30 000 dollars for the tip, I really enjoyed this meal,” he added more that brightened the eyes of the manager and staff.

The whole class watched the comedic gold scene unfolding in front of them.

Did Matthias really pay for the food that they ate?

They’re thankful but what about Jared’s reaction?

That’s when they saw Jared’s grim face.

Without a word, Jared left the room, slamming the door behind him.

And called his father to lend him 50 grand to pay for today’s bill but instead of money, Jared received a scolding from his father.

“For what? Are you buying those drugs again? Listen, Jared this will be the last month that you’ll receive money in your cards. Hear me? Your mom and I won’t tolerate this behavior anymore.”

Annoyed, Jared hung up the call and went back to the room to drag Aira with him outside.

“What? What?!” Aira hissed like a snake as Jared pulled her with force.

“Do you have money with you?”

“N-none,” Aira replied.

“Honest answer, Aira. Don’t bullshit me,” Jared said in between his teeth.

“It’s m-my…”

Against her will, Aira’s money was taken by Jared and Jared immediately paid the bill on cash and card, counting all the money that’s left in his wallet that barely made 49 000.

But seeing how the two emptied their bags and wallets, the staff said that it’s fine since Matthias already gave them enough tip.

The two look at Matthias, who is eating his last dessert and Aira bowed in shame.

Did she make a bad choice by breaking up with Matthias? Where did he get the money that he used to pay and that black card?

Although the idea that Matthias finally accepted his landlady’s offer came into her mind, Aira ignored it since it’s very impossible for that woman to own a black card.

Then what happened during the few hours that they did not see each other?

Aira’s left in a puzzle.

His classmates too are shocked at the turn of events.

Everyone expected Matthias to be the person counting the last of his pennies but it turns out that Jared and Aira will be the ones doing it.

Realizing their mistake, they bowed their heads on shame and can’t even look straight to Matthias.

But Matthias just ignored them like how they usually ignore him before.

Satisfied with the result of his little play, Matthias stood up and left the private room together with his friends.

“Great job, Matt,” Dylan praised him when they’re finally out of that stifling place.

“You should’ve told us earlier if you have something like that so don’t need to worry,” Wilson chirped in too.

“Anyway, you need to tell us where you get that much money and isn’t that a black card? That’s too much, who gave that to you?”

Matthias covered Wilson’s mouth to make him stop asking questions.

For real, this nerd has a lot of questions about every single thing.

“I won a lottery,” Matthias flatly answered.

“Lottery? But lotteries don’t hands out cards like black cards because the prizes are just–”

“Okay, Wil. Stop. Just think that I won the lottery.”

Wilson is still arguing about his right to know what happened as a friend when Cheska shouted Matthias name.

“Do cheerleaders always shout?” Matthias said when other guests looked at them to see who shouted.

“Forgive me. I just… need to… talk to you,” she said in between heavy breaths from the lack of air in running with heels on.

“Are you here to apologize on Jared's behalf?” Matthias assumed since Cheska always plays the role of mediator.

“No. It’s not about that.”

“Then what?”

Cheska took a deep breath before speaking again. “Can I add you on my SNS account? And like what I said earlier, please attend my birthday party tomorrow.”

“Is that all?” Matthias boredly asked Cheska.

Dylan tugged Matthias' clothes to make his friend answer properly, so Matthias changed his answer and smiled.

“I’ll think about it.”

Meanwhile, when all of them are going home one by one, Aira and her friends, Luna and Ella, stayed at the restroom to retouch their makeup.

Among them, it is Luna who broke the silence.

“Can you believe it, Matthias paid 80 000 as if it was nothing. Ha, maybe we underestimated him too much. Right, Ella?”

Ella nodded.

“If he has a decent amount of money and a handsome face, earning more as a model won’t be too hard. Oh gosh, can I take him?” she said after doubling the layer of her magenta-colored lips.

“Ha-ha, you’re already too late girl because I saw Cheska running after–”

Blag!

Aira’s designer bag, slamming the sink, stopped Luna from speaking.

And when they thought the day’s already over when Aira stopped walking at the sidewalk to schedule their cab since Jared left early, a gangster, reeking with alcohol’s scent, circled his arm at Luna’s shoulder.

“H-hey beautiful, how much is a night with you?” the man whispered at Luna.

This made the sassy girl, Luna, scream at the top of her lungs.

“Get away from me!” Luna screamed as they repeatedly hit the man with their sling bag.

“Away! Away!”

Gosh, please, someone save us. Ella thought.
