CHAPTER FIVE

In the corporate business world, some classes of conglomerates are regarded as royalties. Everything contributes to how they are regarded.

They had astronomical numbers of wealth, so much that it made no sense. They were the ones you would find manufacturing the best of goods and they’ve been in existence since even the country began to take a consistent shape.

Among conglomerates, they stood tall and were distinguished amongst the others. Such was The Johns group of companies, talk about the pinnacle of all conglomerates, they are the ones perched atop the hill of luxury.

And this made the public attention to be all over them, the current chairman was preparing to choose a chairman between his children, and this was causing quite an internal stir. Especially for Kayla who could barely hold her place in the family. This marriage was her only way to hang on.

"My lady.”

"My lady.”

Guards and employees greeted her as she stopped in front of the company's building. The exterior alone was an architectural marvel.

Its façade was adorned with glistening glass windows that reflected the sunlight and gave the store an air of sophistication. The massive entrance loomed above her, framed by towering columns that reached toward the sky, their polished marble surfaces glinting in the daylight.

An array of employees and guards swarmed behind her as she walked inside oblivious to those behind her. She was focused on her phone and was typing something.

It was a family group chat. Quite odd but despite being a sophisticated and rotten family there were some cultures they still managed to keep. Always texting each other on the family group chat was of that.

Me: here it is, do you believe I had a secret marriage now?

Coupled with the statement she typed, Kayla dropped a document for the whole family to see it. She was confident it wasn't going to be a problem since she edited his origins. Even if she didn't, the only person who wouldn't allow her to have her way is her stepmother.

She was the one who was looking for a way to take away her position from the company. Her father didn't have any issues with who she married. The old man just needed a grandkid.

But her stepmother was the issue which was why she had to be very careful.

Mean b!t$h: I see... it is certified, indeed you are married. I am relieved. I thought you were lying in order to have your father give you his shares.

Me: why would I lie about something like that?

Even as she typed, irritation was evident in the way she glared at her phone.

Mean b!t$h: smiles.

She swiped away from the family group interface and entered her brother's DM.

Me: So, the deal is still valid right? I will have the position of the CEO for five years in order to prove my capabilities.

Big Nose Bro: Why the rush? Bring your husband home, let the family meet him, and assess if you made the right choice of husband, we don't want someone who'd take advantage of you and cause harm to the company after all.

Immediately Kayla saw the phone, she squeezed her hand around it—if she had a tad of superhuman strength the phone would have been crushed.

She knew what her brother was getting at that was why she was not going to do as he said. The moment they saw Reynold, they would begin to ask cumming questions. She had chosen Reynold because he was at least a nice person, the only person that was nice to her but that did not mean she had any sort of attachment towards him.

A contract marriage was all this is—she would pay him and he would marry to her. They would be husband and wife on paper, at least until she was able to take over the company completely.

She settled into the exotic black leather chair in her office. Leaned back and spun a silver fountain pen around her fingers while she arranged her thoughts.

After a couple of minutes, she picked up her phone and dialed Reynold's number.

Reynold picked up the call immediately it rang, shocked that she called–he didn't even remember giving her his number.

"Where are you now?"

"I'm at the hospital, I was plann–“

"I'll be right there"

"Huh?! Why?"

She didn’t reply, and hung up the phone.

'It's a waste of time waiting for him. I have to do this as fast as I can, I don't want to be discovered, all my plans will be destroyed.'

"Lei."

“Yes, my lady."

The lady in front of her, silent as a chameleon before now, bowed as she responded.

"Get me a wedding dress. The best men's suit that is out there and take a little money to buy the latest model of Rolls Royce. I don't care how much it cost. We are going to pick my fiance."

"Yes, my lady." Lei bowed again as she responded to her and immediately excused herself.

Lei was her childhood friend, both of them grew up with Lei being very much aware that her purpose was to serve Kayla and never betray her. She was trained in every field, cooking, martial arts, business management—that was how The Johns operated, even her elder brother, he also had someone that he grew up with, trained for the sole purpose of serving him.

If there was anyone that Kayla trusted enough to tell her plans and secrets. It was Lei.

She spun the fountain pen around her slender fingers a few times before slamming it on the table and shooting to her feet.

"I should go prepare for my wedding." She muttered to herself and walked out of her office.
