CHAPTER THREE

He counted the zeroes several times to be sure he was seeing the correct thing. Three hundred million like that just dropped in his account.

This is a dream come true, it's a bit of a disappointment to his man ego that this amount didn't come from him purely working for it. But to hell with man's ego, all he cared about right now was saving his mother.

He shot to his feet.

"I will go to get my marriage permit first since it is on the way to the hospital."

He couldn't explain where the new surge of energy he felt came from. He just stormed off in his ruined old suit.

Getting the marriage permit wasn't a big deal. He just had to sign some papers and take some portrait photos, update his register, and since it was urgent, the permit was issued as fast as they could. Their customer service was actually wonderful, Reynold attributed it to the fact that they were government workers, for a minute he thought that maybe his life would have been different if he had been a government worker too.

But he dismissed the thought as soon as it came.

'Let's just relish this moment for now'

He stormed off again and to the hospital this time.

As soon as he entered the hospital, he made his way to the doctor who was in charge of his mother.

"Sir!"

He was just stepping out of an operating room and was met by a ninety-degree bow from Reynold.

He greeted the other doctors and stopped in front of Reynold.

"If you are here to come and beg me to treat your mother you will pay later. I will tell you again Rey, it doesn't work like that. Your mother doesn't even have an insurance."

"I'm here to pay the money, sir!"

He yelled.

A surprised expression came out of the man's wrinkled yet calmly handsome face.

"Are you serious? You have the money?"

He asked rhetorically.

"Yes sir! It was like a miracle and is a long story but I have the whole two hundred and fifty million that you calculated for the full treatment even if she has to be taken out of the country."

He made clear with a vibrant joy evident in his tone.

The man stared down at him for a few minutes,

'I probably should not downplay the integrity of such a hard-working man by asking where he got it. I can ascertain that he is a very hard-working man'

He sighed and smiled.

"I'm happy for you Rey. I will commence with your mother's treatment immediately."

"Thank you, sir!"

As he bowed again a pearl of tears escaped his eyes. He was very happy.

Rey and the doctor together walked to his mother's room where his sister had been nesting for the past few days.

She had even had to give up on school because she wanted to take care of their mother and since she understood that Rey was not earning enough she wanted to help save his money in any way possible.

"Be joyful Tia. Your mother will be commencing her treatment on a full scale."

Tia's eyes went round.

"What?! Really?! Thank you so much, doctor! Thank you so much!" Tears settled in her eyes as she bowed over and over again to the doctor.

"It's not me you should thank." The doctor said touching her shoulders, he looked at Reynold with a smile, "It is your hardworking brother you should be very thankful for."

"I see... huh? Brother?!! You got the raise?!"

Reynold scratched the back of his head shyly, he did talk to her about asking his boss for a raise.

"No, not that. I will explain to you later." He patted her head and turned to the doctor who walked him out and began to explain the processes of the treatment. Not that he understood, he just nodded to everything the man said but it was so interesting to hear.

Finally, his mother would be getting her treatment.

Ring ring.

His phone rang. A frown came upon Reynold's face as he saw the caller.

"Is everything thing okay?" The doctor asked.

"Everything is fine, it's just my girlfriend... or should I say ex."

"Ah, that young woman." The doctor replied with relief. Even though he couldn't ask, he thoroughly wished Reynold wasn't into anything shady and looked out for signs that pointed to the opposite.

"Please excuse me, sir."

Reynold withdrew himself from the doctor just as they were about to enter his office. He picked up the call as he walked along the hall to the lobby.

"Yes?"

"What is it with your tone? What do you mean yes?" She replied.

Reynold had thought she was going to begin to beg or something but she didn't look like she had called to beg, she still had that prideful, arrogant tone in her voice.

"Anyway, I don't care what is wrong with you. I need about $5000 from you."

Reynold squinted his eyes as a fire of rage consumed him from within.

"Are you serious right now? Are you in your right senses? Do you realize I just caught you cheating? I just fucking caught you cheating?!” He yelled at the phone and began to pant, he was so angry at her, more angry at himself that he fully devoted himself to someone like this.

"My mother has been sick in the hospital. I can count the number of times you have been here on one finger. But I never complained right? I just tried to be understanding because you despised the smell of hospital bleaches. You are a self-conceited bitch who only cares about herself. I find it very daring of you that you think you can still collect money from me after cheating on me with my boss."

He hung the call not giving her a second to reply to him.

Then he walked outside to release all his anger into the air. Unfortunately, she was actually outside the hospital about to step inside.

Reynold stood a few meters across her. Gritting his teeth.

'Really? This bitch'

"You think I'm just going to let you go? What about the times when I have stood by you? Who's going to compensate me for all of those times.”

"I don't care. Why don't you go and fuck my boss and ask him for five hundred dollars."

Reynold strolled past her. His shoulder slightly brushed past her but she fell to the ground and began to cry.
