5 Leo's Strange Check Up

The woman opened the door and they stepped into a spacious room that had a huge bed in the middle.

The bed was fashioned after a hospital room and it had immaculate white curtains, white wall paint, and a lot of life support devices and equipment including an oxygen tank, respirator, and a flatliner. The room also smelt thickly of disinfectant and it attacked their noses the moment they entered.

Leo instantly noticed that there was someone lying on the bed and the person was surrounded by a lot of doctors and nurses.

The moment Leo entered the room with the woman, all of them turned around and bowed their heads towards her in greeting.

"Welcome back, young Miss, we have been awaiting your arrival." They all said simultaneously. Without wasting any time, they offered face masks and gloves to the both of them before allowing them to come closer.

This greeting piqued Leo's interest and made him wonder who this young woman was that would enable her to attract such a level of respect from these professionals.

While they were greeting the beautiful young woman, his attention was attracted by the person who lay on the bed.

The first thing he noticed about the person was that the person was barely breathing. If he didn't know better, he would think that the man was dead.

The young woman waved her hand in dismissal to the doctors who greeted her and went straight to her first question, "How's his health? Is he improving?"

The lead doctor shook his head sadly and replied, "There have been no visible improvements. He's still the same."

"We're even glad that he's not getting any worse." Another doctor chirped in,

"Damn..." She pressed her temple in frustration as she walked up to the old man's bedside and muttered sadly, "I've brought the man you requested. I just hope you're right about him."

Leo walked with her to the bedside and muttered his name gently, "Mr Jones..."

To the surprise of the doctors, the man's lip quivered gently in response to his name and they all leaned forward in interest.

'what's happening?' one of them said to himself in disbelief, 'we have tried various methods of treatment yet he hasn't shown any form of external movement. This guy just came from nowhere and spoke to him and he's responding...what is this?'

The old man's response to Leo's voice piqued the lady's curiosity and she turned to him, "Do you know what's wrong with him?"

Leo ignored the question as he slowly removed the quilt that had been draped over the old man. The expression on his face was one of intense concentration and focus, it was obvious to everyone there that he didn't want to be disturbed.

The young Miss was annoyed that Leo ignored her but she didn't want to interrupt him so she bottled her annoyance and watched him in silence.

"Um...." One of the doctors started with an uncertain tone, "The quilt... If you leave his body exposed for long, he's going to catch a cold."

"That's not a problem, this won't take a long time." Leo waved one of his hands dismissively at the doctor and returned his attention to the sick old man on the bed.

The old man's response to Leo's call had established a good impression about him on the doctors but his next action made them begin to reconsider. When they saw him smelling the old man's hands and legs like a dog, they began to think he was rather strange.

"Young Miss," One of the doctors whispered into the young Miss' ears, "where did you get this man from? What does he think he's doing?"

The question spurred her to snap at him angrily, she was already irritated by his absurd actions, "What are you doing? Do you even know what's wrong with him??"

To the utmost shock of everyone in the room, Leo ignored her and continued his act– smelling the man's hands and legs while pressing them softly as if he were trying to feel their thickness.

The young Miss was infuriated by the way Leo was ignoring her but her common sense told her that it would be better to not interrupt him at that moment, so she bottled her anger and waited for him to finish whatever 'diagnosis' he was doing.

After a few minutes of repeating the same routine, Leo sighed deeply and covered the old man with the quilt.

There was a moment of silence in the room as everyone waited with bated breaths for Leo to give his diagnosis.

At some point, one of the doctors couldn't bear the suspense anymore so he broke the silence and asked, "So?"

Leo smiled softly and replied to them, "It's nothing serious. It's quite easy to deal with."

This revelation came as a shock to all of them present and they instantly burst into murmurs. Most of them believed that Leo was just being unreasonable.

"How can this dimwit who doesn't even have a license come in here and tell us that this man is easy to cure?" One of the doctors asked in annoyance and frustration, "Does he know how many months we have spent treating the old man? Does he know how much equipment worth millions of dollars that had been equipped just to get a diagnosis yet none worked? How can he just come in here and tell us that he's easy to cure without the use of any device or equipment? Tell me, what is this if it is not an insult to our intelligence?"

However, Leo didn't seem bothered or fazed by their murmurs against him, he simply looked over to one of the tables beside the bed and picked up a scalpel.
