After the meal, Anna would have liked to invite Esme Crane to sit with her in the family study and talk some more, or to take a walk in the courtyard, but a telegram from the U. of M. Obliged her to give up the idea.

Esme Crane did not get up immediately, but lay on the bed for a while, listening to the sound.
