Ch 14: Memories of the old me

Alone in a room together, Loren has just shown his dark secret to king Garland and is studying the dark arts Necromancy.

“You…. you are a Necromancer.” King Garland was shocked to see.

Yet Loren accepted this type of reaction from the man and wanted to move on from this part to more important parts of this discussion.

“Yes, I have been secretly studying to raise and control the dead. This is the way to help your kingdom.”

“Are you mad Loren do you honestly think? I would accept that Necromancy is a forbidden magic; those who learn it are no longer seen as innocent to anyone.”

Loren sighs as he laughs a little while making the green light disappear.

“I already know about the risk and I am planning to deal with it when the time comes, but as of now, I have far more important matters in my plan that need my attention for only a year to use.”

“I do not understand why Loren is telling me.” The man wants to know as there has to be a reason this young boy before him shares this secret with him.

“It is because we can help each other king Garland. Think about it, you set your only daughter to marry one of king Vernon's sons. By doing this your kingdom is protected from your enemies. Yet that does not have to be the case with me here; this kingdom will no longer need my father's help because of me.”

“Still Using Necromancy is something I am strongly against as King of this kingdom, I must do what is right and what is best for the people.”

Loren looked at the king with a disappointed expression.

“King Garland, tell me how well you know the greatness of an undead army one commends.”

That king was quite right when Loren asked him, the man knows how dangerous Necromancy can be, but never saw it with his own eyes throughout his life.

Loren can see the answer to this question by how quiet King Garland is being

“An undead army does not get tired, go hungry or ever stop fighting no matter how many days, months, or years have gone by. Even their numbers never fall, but keep on growing, becoming bigger and stronger than any other armies that stand against them.”

Such an army can be unstable and only one person can control that type of army, which worries King Garland as he looks at Loren as if he can be that person.

“With an army like that Loren, what would be the need of me and this kingdom.”

“That is where you wrong king Garland, I will be needing you as my ally, and this kingdom you rule to help me take over my father's kingdom.”

King Garland was surprised to hear that Loren wanted to conquer his father's kingdom.

“Why would you want to do that to your father?”

“It is hard for me to plan to do this, but it is a necessary part of my goal towards this world. I must do this if I want to complete this goal of mine.”

Even if Loren has already accepted the path he will walk, it still pains him a little about the things he is going to have to do.

“What about the marriage between you and my daughter is there a point to still having it.”

“Of course it will still happen as it can play well to my plan even if it did make me have to do a few changes to it. I will spend a year living in your kingdom and return to my home along with Hannah as our wedding will be taking place there, but that will take time to happen. We can use it to do what is needed here.”

King Garland thinks over this talk they are having, the man does not know what to do at this moment should he agree or still decline along with Loren's plan.

“I know that you will need more time to think this over, so I will give it to you, but let me say one more thing: agree to this and my help can make it easy to defeat your enemies along with taking their lands.”

Loren then took his leave with nothing more that needed to be said, he left the king to be alone.

“What do I do if I go along with Loren's plan? I can never turn back once it starts, but what would happen if I don’t go along with him? Will that boy turn against this kingdom?”

That thought of that scars the man to be facing an army of the dead controlled by Loren.

“No, our kingdom wouldn’t be able to stand against such an army, I have to accept this offer given to me now until we have enough manpower that is when we will strike.”

While King garland had time to think to himself Loren made his way back to his room, but before he could reach there.

All of sudden a deep sharping pain strikes Loren's head as it makes him fall on one knee.

At the same time, he began to see memories, ones Loren Believes belong to another.

“Damn it!.... I never thought I could still have these painful headaches. It has been some time since I had these headaches.”

Loren slowly brings himself back up.

“These memories, I keep seeing they do not belong to me, but me from a past life as that is the only answer that makes sense to me.”

Loren resumes walking back to his room, entering inside the quilty.

“Where have you gone, Big Brother.” Angelina was up, but it seems the girl was up for quite some time.

Loren looked at Angelina telling her that she was waiting for him.

“I had to meet with the king.”

“What for.”

“about my plan for this kingdom and helping me take over my father's kingdom.”

Loren answered her while grabbing a book sitting down on the bed and began writing in that book.

Angelina brings herself beside him to look at the book Loren is writing inside, she knows what that book is just like the others.

“It happened again, didn't it big brother,” she asks while placing her head Against his shoulder.

“Yes it has been a while to almost think that it has stopped, but it seems that was far from it.”

“Does big brother still believe they are his memories of himself?”

Loren stops writing in the book and turns his head to face Angelina.

“It is the only thing that can answer my question of why I keep having these memories come to me.”

“I don’t understand, big brother, are you sure they are not dead.”

“I doubt that these memories feel familiar to me in some way and besides, I can hear and see the dead, but not their memories.”

Loren goes back to writing in the book soon, finishing and putting the book back.

“Now let us both sleep as tomorrow we have things to get done.”

Loren changed and lay on the bed while Angelina lay beside him, he kissed her on the head which she liked, and soon the two fell asleep.

------------------------------------

The next day came as Loren and those who came with him had breakfast and began to do their own thing.

Enidut Pathwarrior went to the training ground to test the king's men on how well they are in combat.

Cecelia wants to study more in magic, so she discovers there is a mage academy in the kingdom as she makes her way there.

Angelina tags along with Loren as he makes his way to the kingdom library where he is free to enter and look around.

“Do you think you will be able to find the book you are looking for?”

“I have my doubts that I may find a book about my mother's people, but I have to try Angelina.”

“All right big brother, so if I find a book, I would like you to read it to me.”

“Of course.” Angelina was happy to hear that and she began right away looking for a book.

While she was gone Loren began looking through the books on the bookshelves.

An hour passed as Loren was now sitting at a table with a book stuck together.

“Hmm, seems there's no chance for me to find such a book, I may have to look elsewhere to find it.”

Loren thinks as he then notices someone carrying a lot of books, he thought it would be nice to help this person.

“Allow me to help you there.” Loren grabs half of those books for him to carry.

“Oh! Thank you very much…” The person who carried a big load of books was shocked to see Loren.

After removing half those books Loren saw the person who was trying to carry all those books was a pretty young girl.

“Yours! Prince Loren…. What are you doing here, I don’t mean to say it like that anyone is welcome to this library as it's just a surprise to see you and it's an honor to have you here.”

Loren takes a good look at the girl wearing glasses with almond-shaped white eyes that are like two lotus blossoms. Her luxurious, curly, neck-length hair is the color of black coffee and is worn in a utilitarian, precise style.

She is very tall and has a busty build with skin that is pale.

“Please there is no need to be nervous around me, I am just like everyone else who likes to come to the library also where these books should be taken.”

“Oh right! Follow me.” She leads Loren as the two soon arrive at the front desk where the books were dropped on top of it.

“Thank you prince Loren for helping me.”

“You just call my Loren no need for the prince, I take it you work here in this library.”

“Yup, the name Deanna Copeland,” she tells Loren cheerfully.

Loren looks at the girl thinking she may be of help to him in his search, but he is not sure if asking a stranger would be the right thing to do.

“Um, is there something wrong Loren?” Deanna Copeland asked.

“Yes there is something, I need help looking at a certain book here I've been trying to find.”

“Tell me as I am very good at finding books that people need.”

“I am looking for a book about a race of Necromancers.” Once Loren tells the girl she became quiet in deep silence.

He soon thinks that he may have made the wrong choice in telling Deanna and may have to take care of her if she becomes a problem for him.

“You mean the masters of the dead.”

Loren was shocked when Deanna finally spoke.

“So that is what they were called, but how does a library worker know that?”

Deanna became silent again yet it did not last long this time.

“I have been studying about them for some time.”
