Chapter 11

The store manager had discussed Agatha's request with his staff, and in the end, they could only approach Agatha with somewhat displeased expressions on their faces.

Agatha immediately sensed what the manager wanted to convey and felt deeply disappointed.

"Miss Agatha, although this seems unlikely... I can try to arrange it if you truly want to have this diamond necklace," the manager suddenly said.

"Can you? If it's possible, please make it happen," Agatha replied.

A meaningful smile appeared on the manager's face, triggering suspicion in Steve Hart's mind.

"What about a dinner with me? I can provide you with this diamond necklace with the money you have now. But you'll need to pay the rest soon because my boss will be upset if he finds out about this," the store manager explained with a broad smile.

Steve Hart immediately clenched his fists, confirming the manager's interest in Agatha.

Steve Hart wanted to persuade Agatha to reject the store manager's proposal, although it seemed unnecessary as Agatha was already glaring at the manager in annoyance.

"What did you just say?" Agatha's tone was notably icy this time.

The store manager panicked upon seeing Agatha's anger. "Please, Miss Agatha. I only meant to invite you to dinner, nothing more."

From the beginning, the store manager felt he had a chance to get close to Agatha, the young lady from the prestigious Cattegirn family.

The store manager felt accomplished; at a relatively young age, he had attained the position of manager, something he was immensely proud of. Moreover, the jewelry store he worked for was the largest and had numerous branches in Avebury.

"What's lacking in me? Why does Miss Agatha seem offended just because of my request?" the store manager muttered, perplexed.

Refusing to give up, the store manager attempted to persuade Agatha to accept his proposal, believing that he only needed one opportunity to win Agatha's heart.

"Forget all this; I don't need that necklace," Agatha stated.

Although Agatha longed for the necklace, she felt the store manager's request was excessive and even audacious.

"Miss Agatha, are you sure you won't regret missing the chance to own such a beautiful diamond necklace?"

Hearing this, doubt began to creep into Agatha's mind again. This widened the store manager's smile once more.

Not willing to miss the chance, the store manager elaborated further on the diamond necklace. He mentioned that the diamond, the centerpiece of the necklace, was recently discovered from a hard-to-reach mountain. Coupled with its significant size, no similar necklace could be found in the near future, even for decades to come.

"If that's what Miss Agatha desires, let the ownership be determined through an auction," the store manager proposed.

"Wa—wait..."

The store manager flashed a wide smile, assuming Agatha wouldn't refuse his invitation for dinner.

Steve Hart, who had been observing everything, finally intervened, "I'll pay the full price."

Upon hearing this, Agatha looked at Steve with a puzzled expression. She was well aware of Steve's dire financial situation and urged him to stay quiet and not interfere.

"Why? I'll pay for it," Steve said to Agatha.

"Stop talking nonsense; the diamond necklace costs 1 million dollars. Do you even know how much money that is?" Agatha, with an expression of displeasure, thought Steve was only saying this to impress her.

"I do know, and I have that amount of money."

Agatha wanted to respond to Steve but didn't know how to address it. What Steve had just said felt more like a boast to her.

"Steve, please understand and be quiet. Don't get involved in something you can't handle at all," Agatha urged Steve to stop embarrassing himself further with all the boasting.

"If the issue is the 1 million dollars, I can handle it. Trust me, Agatha."

Agatha, unsure of what to do, ultimately chose to remain silent and let Steve do as he wished.

Agatha might have been annoyed by the store manager's persistent invitation for dinner, but she was more afraid of seeing Steve embarrass himself.

‘What's wrong with him? Is he jealous or something?’ Agatha muttered, forgetting that Steve was as stubborn as this.

"Excuse me, sir, what is your relationship with Miss Agatha?" the store manager asked as Steve approached.

"I'm her husband," Steve Hart said.

The store manager fell silent for a while before a mocking smile appeared on his face. "Oh, so you're the husband who's never considered to exist?"

"Am I that famous? Well, if you know who I am, stop babbling and let's proceed with the transaction," Steve Hart said, feeling unwilling to entertain such provocations.

"Sorry, but didn't Miss Agatha mention earlier that she doesn't have her money? What transaction are you talking about, Sir?" The store manager raised an eyebrow.

"Don't worry about my wife, I'll be paying. Also... could you stop calling her 'miss' when her husband is here?"

The store manager chuckled; he knew Steve well from the many rumors. To him, Steve was just the lucky poor man who managed to marry Agatha, making Steve's words sound more like a joke.

"What's so funny? Why are you laughing?"

The store manager raised his eyebrows, then said, "You're the reason I'm laughing, Sir. How can you not realize that?"

"Realize what?" Steve Hart asked.

"The poor useless husband want to pay a large amount of his wife’s bill? What you just said sounded more like a joke," the store manager said.

Steve Hart sighed heavily, feeling irritated but tried to restrain himself. Moreover, Agatha was there, and he didn't want to do anything that would make her angry or disappointed.

"Sir, if you're not really serious with your words, it's better to leave and let me continue my conversation with Miss Agatha."

Steve Hart said coldly, "To keep persuading Agatha for a dinner with you? Stop dreaming about that!"

The store manager didn't flinch at Steve raising his voice; instead, he said, "If you think I've gone too far by trying to get closer to your wife, you should be self-aware because it happened due to your incapability."

Steve Hart fell silent after hearing all that. Perhaps if something like this were said a few days ago when he didn't have a system, he would have remained silent. But now? Steve didn't want to be underestimated anymore just because of his status as a useless son-in-law.

"Stop your nonsense and let me pay for the necklace," Steve Hart said with a cold tone.
