A Bill's Offer

The atmosphere suddenly became quiet. Julie, who had been reluctant to look at the man, now had a worried look in her eyes. It was a natural reaction that could not be hidden even though anger had previously enveloped.

"What did you say?" Diana asked to make sure.

Bill dropped his gaze down, staring at the floor he was standing on. "I can't be sure how Grandpa is doing right now." Bill wasn't exactly lying, as he hadn't had a chance to ask Jonathan about it. "I hope he's doing well now."

Julie clenched her hands into fists. She looked the other way so that the puddle of tears in her eyes would not be noticed by Bill. Julie did harbor great anger and disappointment towards Ryan, but that didn't mean her sympathy and compassion had completely eroded. After all, she had lived with her father-in-law for more than thirty years, and she had been treated well and loved like a daughter.
