The S.S Venture was a cargo ship over 100 meters long capable of carrying hundreds of thousands of tons of cargo. It was the jewel of the Confederate States of Vinland's navy, a naval engineering masterpiece like few others.
Englehorn had been the captain of that ship for ten years. His retirement was very close now. He just had to make that last voyage and then he could get the reward of his hard work. He can't wait to finally being able to retire and enjoy the last years of his life in a quiet country villa.
Unfortunately, fate could be a real bastard at times. While the old captain was looking at the sea nostalgically, thinking back to all the times he had admired the placid waves breaking on the keel of the ship, something made the S.S Venture tremble from below.
Englehorn lost his balance and barely managed to hold on to the railing, but other upheavals made the ship vibrate like a bell. In the end came a jolt so powerful that the captain slipped and fell i
Meanwhile, on the surface, Sobek had re-emerged with the elasmosaurus in his jaws. Even though he had improved his freediving skills over time, he couldn't last long without breathing. Unfortunately, he wasn't like crocodiles or whales that could hold their breath for hours. He wasn't afraid of the submarine. Unlike him that could count on [Reinforced skin], it couldn't go up fast, or the pressure difference would tear it apart. He could eat calmly. He wasn't even worried about the submarine reporting his location to the authorities. After all, getting attention was exactly what he wanted. While devouring the elasmosaurus he noticed movement in the sky. He raised his snarling head before realizing that it was just a few cormorants aiming for the carcass. Despite being quite far from the coast, seabirds could travel many kilometers every day in search of food, so he wasn't a surprise to spot them.Sobek's ears were filled with not very nice phrases."Oh, h
Sobek dived deep, to make sure no one could see him. Even though he was out at sea and there was no ship for miles around, he knew that humans had eyes everywhere: orbiting satellites had no limit to their field of vision. Fortunately, not even orbital satellites could penetrate tens or even hundreds of meters of water.Once he got deep enough (not deep enough to be completely dark, but not even shallow enough to be visible from the surface) he opened the [Weapons system]. As he had expected, all boxes were now unlocked. But surprisingly, there was more to it.All the boxes were now connected by some sort of pattern. Weapons that were most similar were grouped together (for example, rifles and pistols) and were connected to each other, while those that were more dissimilar (such as machine guns and bombs) were connected via much longer wires. In the center of that strange web was a single square, on which the wording [Personal weapon] flashed.Sobek wasted no ti
The NMWA contacted Sarah Hardy, Ian Malcolm and Alan Grant immediately after the 'spinosaurus' emergency was discovered, and asked them to find a remedy. The three scientists had been equipped with the best technology available and had access to all the information regarding the movements of the spinosaurus. Finally, after almost a week of waiting, the three famous scientists had deigned to introduce themselves."Welcome, gentlemen" president Palma greeted them warmly. "We are glad you have come to a conclusion. Have you found a solution to this problem?""We have a bad news and a good news" professor Grant replied.A murmur spread through the hall. "Bad news first, please" Palma said, preferring to know immediately what the problem was."All right. We analyzed the data you provided us and the satellite images, and based on the behavioral patterns of the animal and its trajectory we deduced...""The point, professor""I say so, since I am al
Another week had passed, and more than half of the journey had been completed. By now there was only another week left for arrival. Once on Maakanar it would be easy to return to the place where Sobek had recently dwelt. The spinosaurus couldn't wait to see its lake again. Who knows how Buck was doing? Probably well given the skillshe had left him. In a way, they hadn't been apart for too long: Sobek didn't expect to be back in little more than two months. Anyway, now Sobek had to focus on the dinosaurs he had to deal with. He had a new task: to retrieve another prey for them. Unfortunately, the whale had lasted less than he expected. Although in terms of meat it was enough to satiate the dinosaurs for months, unfortunately the brackish air soon made it rot. Such a large decaying carcass inevitably attracted thousands of bacteria and microorganisms, so in the end the dinosaurs were forced to dispose of it in order to avoid disease. Even Sobek hadn't dared to eat what was left of the
"Miss? Miss!"Jocelyne jumped, sitting up instantly: "I'm awake, mom, I'm awake!" she screamed, only to realize that the person who had pulled her out of the dream world wasn't her mother at all."Do I look so much like a woman?" Jackson asked, amused."A little" the girl replied jokingly.“Don't say that in front of Abe, please. He'd make fun of me for the rest of my life" the militia leader laughed in turn, and then took a look at the girl's bed: "Did you spend another sleepless night?"Jocelyne looked awkwardly at her bed, which was flooded with computers, books and electronic devices. "Apparently" she said with a shrug.Jocelyne's mental condition had been improving for some time. Slightly, sure, but still they were getting better. Although she still had nightmares and was clearly suffering from PTSD symptoms, she had finally stopped trying to stay awake as much as possible. She forced herself to sleep and this was clearly benefici
Sobek emerged beside the ship and rapped three times on the hull. Carnopo, Al, and other dinosaurs quickly got out of the hold and leaned out of the hull to be able to talk to him. "What's going on, pack leader?" they asked; in fact, Sobek normally came at night to avoid attracting attention, so the dinosaurs found it strange that he had come to call them in broad daylight."We are arrive" Sobek replied, pointing to the coastline that was becoming more and more evident on the horizon. "We must prepare for ditching""Ditch... what?"“Ditching, it's… forget it. In any case, given the current trajectory of the ship, we will end up straight into a port... and no, I don't have time to explain you what a port is!"The autopilot was programmed only to follow the naval route. Slowing down and landing near ports was the crew's job. Dinosaurs had no idea how to steer a ship, so they could neither perform such operations nor change course. Therefore it
Sobek barely checked what had happened at the crash site; his mind was focused on swimming in the muddy waters of the river.Even though he couldn't see or hear them, he knew that all the other dinosaurs he had taken from the zoo were around him. This was because he had given them both [Ambush] and [Swim speed].His plan had been simple but brilliant. Sobek could have simply had the ship abandoned in the open sea and then sunk it, but he had preferred to follow another path. In order to go unnoticed, the dinosaurs would have to use [Ambush]; so, however, they would also be invisible to him. And if the river and the sea into which it flowed had been full of ships there would have been the risk that someone would be discovered. Many of the dinosaurs in his pack weren't swimmers, and with [Swim speed] they would end up with a speed they weren't used to. For example, ankylosaurs were not used to moving at more than 10 km/h, but with [Swim speed] they would have reac
While Sobek began his sleep, not very far away ('not far' just for say: we are still talking about hundreds of kilometers, which were nothing for a planet as big as Eden) Jocelyne was having a video call with some of the most important scientists in the world."Forgive me if I disturb you at such a time" she said as she looked at her computer. There were two windows on the screen: on one appeared the faces of Alan Grant, Ian Malcolm and Sarah Hardy, while on the other were Mitch Morgan and Jamie Campbell. In practice, the five scientists who recently had obtained the most significant discoveries: the last two with their studies on Spinosaurus superior and the first three with those on Spinosaurus ingens.“You don't disturb us, Miss Jersey. Rather, we are questioning the reason for your call” Alan replied. He wasn't the only curious one: even the most famous scientists in the world weren't often called by important personalities, so they wondered what had pr
