I'M NOT A KILLER

"Here's the coffee," Daren said as he handed the coffee cup to Vivian, who was sitting on the sofa.

Vivian smiled and took the coffee cup, "Thank you, Daren," she said as she sipped the coffee she had just received.

Not long after, Vivian suddenly felt claustrophobic and began foaming at the mouth. Daren panicked at the state of his wife's stepmother, who was none other than his mother-in-law. "Mom, what's wrong with you?!" he shouted worriedly.

Before Daren could do anything, Vivian was already lying lifeless on the floor.

Just then, Laura, Daren's wife, arrived and saw what had just happened. "Mom!" Laura shouted hysterically as she ran towards the body of her stepmother. Tears were streaming down her cheeks.

Laura turned to her husband, eyes red and full of anger, "You! You killed my mom, didn't you?!" she accused in a hoarse voice.

"No, Laura! I didn't kill your mom. I just made her coffee!" he tried to defend himself.

However, Laura wouldn't listen to her husband's explanation. "Liar! You must have poisoned the coffee! You're a murderer!" she cried.

Whether it was a coincidence or not, the police suddenly came and knocked on their door. Daren immediately opened the door, and the police entered the house.

"What's going on here?" one of the policemen asked sternly.

Daren looked very confused as to why the police had come at such an inopportune time.

"Damn it!" Daren said.

"Miss, tell me what happened!" another policeman ordered Laura, who was still crying.

Laura pointed at the body of her stepmother. "My mother died after drinking the coffee my husband gave her! I'm sure he killed her!" Now Laura's index finger pointed at Daren.

Daren shook his head, not accepting the accusation. "I didn't kill her, officer! I just made coffee for her, that's all!"

However, the police would not listen to Daren's explanation. "We will take you to the police station for further investigation," said the policeman while pulling Daren's hand.

Daren's hands were handcuffed by the policemen, leaving the man dumbfounded. "Mr. Police, why are my hands handcuffed? I am innocent!"

"Mr. Daren, you are suspected of poisoning Mrs. Vivian," said one of the policemen.

"I told you, I did not poison my mother-in-law. You guys just misunderstood! I didn't kill her!" shouted Daren, trying to defend himself.

However, the policemen wouldn't listen to what Daren had to say. Neither did Laura, who was still crying over her stepmother's body.

"LET ME GO! I'M INNOCENT. I'M NOT A KILLER!" Daren tried to rebel so that he could escape the police's grip.

Two policemen immediately secured Vivian's body.

Many people gathered in front of Laura's house. They were curious when they saw the police car and Laura's hysterics inside the house.

When Daren was taken away by the police, they wondered. Could Darren be the cause of Vivian's death?

Upon arrival at the police station, Darren sat on a long chair in the interrogation room, his hands still cuffed. A well-built policeman asked him questions.

"Do you still want to deny it, Mr. Daren?" the policeman asked in a threatening tone. "The evidence is clear here. You're one of the people in the house. You even made coffee for Mrs. Vivian yourself. So, why won't you admit your mistake?"

Darren looked at the policeman sternly, "I am innocent. I did not do what you are accusing me of. I swear! I didn't kill her! I didn't put anything in that coffee!"

"You think we're stupid? You were the only one there, Mr. Daren. Come on, admit it!"

Daren felt cornered, but he tried to convince them of his innocence.

"I've told you over and over again! I didn't poison her!"

Another, more senior police officer began beating Daren. Daren felt excruciating pain as blow after blow struck his face and body. He winced in pain, but he clung to his belief that he was innocent. If his hands had not been handcuffed, he might have fought back.

The policemen continued to beat Daren while demanding a confession from him. However, Daren continued to insist that he was innocent. He answered all the questions asked by the police honestly, but they didn't believe him.

"Speak the truth, Daren!" the more senior policeman shouted as he raised his hand to hit him again. "We won't stop until you confess!"

However, Daren ignored their threats. He bit his lip, enduring the pain. "I've told the truth, Mr. Police. I know nothing about the poisoning death of my mother-in-law. I didn't know!" Daren shouted, his voice hoarse from all the yelling.

Finally, after a while, the policemen stopped beating Daren and left him alone in the interrogation room, his face battered and his body bruised. Daren lay weak, but he tried to summon the strength to continue fighting the charges he believed to be false.

Not long after, Charlie, Daren's father-in-law, arrived. Daren was still helpless in the interrogation room.

"Get up!" Mr. Charlie tugged at Daren's clothes. "You murderer! How could you kill my wife by poisoning her!" the man exclaimed with a sharp look in his eyes and even his breathing was labored. "Laura told me everything!"

"Charlie, I didn't give she poison," Daren said, his voice weak.

"You're a killer, Daren, you're a killer!" said Charlie in a raised voice. He even went so far as to violently push Daren to the ground.

Daren was furious, wanting to fight back. But he couldn't.

"I'm not a killer!" Daren shouted.

"You're still defending yourself!" cried Charlie, "Put him behind bars!" he pleaded with the police, "and he... he should be executed!"

As Laura arrived, Daren hoped his wife would change her mind. And believe in his innocence.

"Honey, do you believe in my innocence?" Daren said softly.

"I'm sorry, Daren. I came here to tell you that I can't keep you as my husband because you killed my mother, Daren," Laura said in a low voice that was painful to hear.

Laura's words were a sharp blow to Daren. For the past two years, Daren had been devoted to her, trying to be a good husband, always faithfully accompanying Laura, even willing to lose his job for the sake of his beloved woman. Daren was made Laura's personal driver, even a servant. Daren's self-respect as the head of the family had completely disappeared; how sad!

But he didn't care; he was still obedient and complied with her wishes. Before marrying Laura, Daren gave all of his savings to Laura as business capital, and she ended up owning a famous boutique in the city.

Since Laura was 10 years old, she has lived with her stepmother Vivian. Vivian and Laura are only 12 years apart in age. However, Laura did not inherit any of the wealth left behind by her late father. After Laura grew up, Vivian married Charlie. She even provided him with a significant amount of capital to become a famous actor.

"Is this the payback, Laura? In return for my two years of service as your husband?" asked Daren in a disappointed tone. "Not even just as a husband, I've been your personal driver for the past two years, even a servant for you!"

"That's because you've become a murdered, Daren, you're a killer!" shouted Laura sternly.

"I'm not a killer!" shouted Daren, but his voice sounded desperate. He felt himself completely broken, his love and sacrifice ignored. However, in that despair, Daren felt there was some kind of strength within him that made him act decisively.

"I will prove my innocence," Daren said with fierce determination.

"Let's wait for the results of the investigation and the verdict, Daren!" said Laura. "Daren, even though I never got along with him, he took care of me." Laura sobbed even more.

Daren was silent, his breathing labored. He was tired of saying he was innocent.

"I know, the reason you poisoned my mother was because you were afraid of your affair with her being exposed, right? That's too much, Daren!" Laura continued in a loud voice.

"What did you say?" Daren was stunned when he heard the words from his wife's mouth saying that Daren had an affair with Vivian. What kind of slander was this?

"Are you still going to be evasive, Daren?" said Charlie.
