Dorian burst in through the door with barely a few seconds left.
The cold feeling running down his spine finally dissipated and he breathed a breath of relief. Panting lightly, he watched the ominous red light flashing on the system’s screen finally fade away.
The panic he had felt when that started glowing, was unlike any he had ever experienced in his life! Couldn’t the system acknowledge the fact that last night was tough on him and he needed more time to recover?
The system’s reply was instant.
~No one cares if the sun fell on your house or the moon shat on your car. Get to work on time regardless~
Dorian gritted his teeth and straightened up when his new boss came out.
“Good morning.”
The man regarded him for a second, nodded, reached behind the counter, and pulled out a shirt. He threw it lightly to Dorian and Dorian caught the shirt.
He also caught the keys that were thrown at him next.
“Change into that shirt. There’s a stack of pizza boxes in the back. The delivery locations are on a piece of paper beside it, and so is the contact info of the customers who ordered them. Be back in the next two hours. Bike is out back.”
Dorian blinked once in bewilderment. He thought he would be making pizzas, not delivering them.
“Your pay is directly related to how much pizza you deliver in a day boyo, so the faster you are, the better it is for both of us. Chop chop.”
Dorian nodded and went in the direction he was pointed to.
Maybe this would be the time to state that he didn’t know how to drive a scooter, or even a bicycle, talk less of an actual motorbike.
“This would be a great time for a particular system to butt in.”
His muttered plea was left unanswered and panic coiled in Dorian’s throat the more he approached the pizzas. He took note of how neat they were packed. Each slim cardboard pack had a layer of styrofoam underneath so it didn’t squish the next one. He picked up the stack of pizzas, the soft sweet scent wafting off them making his stomach rumble, he swiped the note on the marble countertop beside them and he went out the door in the back.
The moment Dorian laid eyes on the bike, it was like seeing a vision from heaven.
Either by the system’s manipulation or just pure coincidence, rays of sunlight seemed to hit the sleek green and red-painted machine full on. It looked beautiful, and finally, the system made an appearance.

The system was definitely one for theatrics, all that was left were some streamers and confetti, yet Dorian couldn’t deny the roaring in his ears as he looked on at the bike.
It was like his hands itched to hold the handlebars and rev the throttle so hard the bike shot off into the horizon.
What model was the engine even?
Dorian took a step towards the bike but snapped back immediately. Model? Engine?
Why would that interest him?
~People are passionate about where their skills lie. Don’t feel scared~ The system sounded so smug, ~Just let my magic work on you. Even professional racers who have spent years honing their skills will pale beside you and your cheap delivery bike.”
Dorian let the snide remark pass and approached the bike instead. The moment he touched it, memories seemed to flood into his brain. He suddenly knew how best to handle the gearshift and clutch so they work seamlessly well. He knew where the throttle was and that with perfect precision, he could reach more speeds than this bike was meant to produce.
He could drive this thing….. and he could drive it well.
The conviction settled into Dorian’s bones and he liked the feeling of it. He strapped the pizzas to the seat of the car, got into the driver’s seat, and slipped the key into the keyhole, turning it and activating the ignition.
Electricity shot through the car and the engine purred to life. Dorian gave it a few warm-up revs and snatched the helmet on the left handlebar.
The instruments cluster showed a full gas engine and right now, he couldn’t wait to see how fast this thing could go. He was ready.
[NEW TASK ALERT!
TASK: DELIVER THE PIZZAS WITHIN THE GIVEN TIMEFRAME.
REWARD: +10 EFFICIENCY. +10 DILIGENCE +10 COMMITMENT.
EXTRA REWARD: +0.000001 INTELLIGENCE. +2 STRENGTH.]
Dorian Hmmmmmmmmed.
“Will these rewards double if I get the deliveries done faster?”
The screen a few feet away gave a golden glow and Dorian took that as a yes.
He revved the bike up one more time, settled into the confidence that came with being a skilled rider, and took off down the driveway and into the main roads at a dangerous yet comfortable speed.
He made his first delivery in 15 mins.
He made his second one in 12 mins.
He made his third one in 10 minutes.
The morning wind carried a chill to it and the golden sunlight warmed Dorian’s nose. It brought back a nostalgic feeling of hot breakfasts in the morning and lazy limbs from bed.
The looks of bewildered shock on the customer’s faces as he delivered their pizzas to them in record time made thrums of pleasure race through Dorian’s spine.
In 45 minutes he had completed all his deliveries and was on his way back to the pizza shop when a police officer pulled him over for overspeeding.
They couldn’t get anything on him because the speedometer clearly showed that he hadn’t oversped.
The system’s notification came on and this time a mechanical voice accompanied it.

Though slightly confused, the smile on Dorian’s face was infectious. This felt like a win.
This was definitely a win!
He was crushing this thing!
“Deliver the rest of the pizzas out back.”Dorian nodded and walked past his new boss to get the cargo. Somehow, someone had spread the word of this pizza shop having the fastest delivery service and now everyone wanted a pizza that would be delivered in less than five minutes.~You haven’t told me thank you.~Dorian frowned at the voice in his head as he stared at the pile of pizza boxes he had to lug to the bike.“Thank you for what?”~For granting you this cool skill of course! You’d have had to pay a lot of money to get the skills you’re driving with today.~ While Dorian couldn’t deny the fact that the expert-level driving skill was awesome, something about having to deliver pizzas for hours on end didn’t appeal to him much.He was happy he was good at his job. Luigi, his new boss, had even told him he was doing a good job and he was happy he could finally get a name and a small smile out of the man.If this continued, then in a few more days, they could dominate the pizza delive
“Leave me alone! Please!” The cries were very audible and deep wracking sobs followed next.Dorian watched as a young woman stumbled out of the alley, her eyes wide in panic and tears running down her cheeks in rivulets. The few people also towing the alleyway stopped to look at her. She was very pretty. With a dainty shape and wearing a black dress that outlined her slim waist and curved hips. Her ebony hair curled at the tips and her skin was nice, near flawless.Everyone was enamored by the crying damsel and some made moves to go to her but they froze the next minute like an electric current just ran down their spines. Under the clear sunlight of the afternoon, four huge men walked out of the curve of the alley. They had menacing looks on their faces and they appeared rough but what made everyone stop was the single slash on their left cheeks.Dorian cursed under his breath.“Blacktips.”The Blacktips were a well-known local gang this side of the city. They burglarized, robbed, m
“Do…… you usually…… drive like a maniac?”The Blacktips were just behind them and right now, Dorian was sure they were going well past the speed limit. So far it had been thirty minutes since the chase started. The speed his bike was putting out was admirable.“Hey, pizzacunt! Catch!”Dorian leaned to the left at the last moment and the projectile whizzed past his ear. A boomcan landed on the bare ground of the expressway and Dorian gritted his teeth in annoyance.Thankfully this time when the can exploded they were a good distance away from the explosion. The Blacktips had their little locally made explosive explode right behind them and Dorian’s mind sparked with an idea. The crackly voice of his passenger was almost lost in the wind whipping around them. “They’re going to throw more of those things.”Dorian nodded both to her and to himself. She certainly wasn’t from around here. She didn’t know what a boomcan was.~System, I need a good trick!~The mechanical voice was what repli
~HEY DORIAN!~Dorian jerked awake like someone hit his head in his dream.“I’m up! I’m up!”The system chortled and Dorian’s still muddled brain tried to grasp what was happening right now.His eyes darted to the clock in the corner and he groaned.~Did you have to wake me up at the crack of dawn with such a loud shout?”It was like a foghorn had screamed his name in his head. Urghh.~Get up lazy pants. You have to get to work.~Dorian scowled and resisted the urge to groan.“Right, work.”His body felt like his spine would give out. His butt ached for some reason and his shoulders and back muscles throbbed. Maybe he had to go see a doctor.A ding rang out in his head and Dorian tried to open his half-lidded eyes to see the glass screen hovering a few feet above him. It was tilted so it could face him properly without him having to strain his neck.[HEALTH: 80%/100%]Dorian took a deep breath and watched as the meter climbed to 81%. In essence, he was being told he was okay and he di
"D.... Dorian?"Dorian nodded and stared at his girlfriend. He didn't know what to say. What was he supposed to do in a situation like this?"Is this the guy you've been telling me about?"The smug voice of the male in the room rang into Dorian's ears and he clenched his fists. They'd been talking about him.Amelia of all people, a woman who he would trust with his life if it came down to it."I asked you a question Amy." The male's voice was much nearer now and Dorian watched as the guy slung an arm over his girlfriend's shoulder. He was holding her in the casual manner Amelia would never have allowed him, her boyfriend to hold her in and he was grinning. He already knew what was happening here."Answer me Amelia. Or are you going to suddenly develop some virtue right here and now?"The decision was clear in Amelia's eyes because she nodded briskly." Yeah. He's the one I was telling you of. My boyfriend, Dorian Flint."Dorian felt something sour enter his mouth at her words. So he wa
Dorian smashed his fist into the side of Horace's face. The punch was so well delivered that teeth and spittle flew out of Horace's mouth as he went straight to the floor and Amelia screamed before rushing to him."Are you crazy Dorian!"She cradled the side of Horace's face, her eyes filled with worry and her hands touching and prodding the sides of his face.Horace was silent, his eyes still blinking in disbelief and Dorian found himself heaving slightly.Hell, that felt good.Amelia set her sights on him and there was scorching hatred in her eyes."What do you think you're doing Dorian! Do you know who Horace is? Do you know who his father is!"She was breathing heavily as she spoke and Dorian felt his heart go cold. What did he ever see in her? Maybe he was truly blind as Horace had said, because he should have noticed some things."Did you just hit me, you cunt?"Dorian stepped forward, crouched on his heels, and stared the spoiled young master right in the eyes."Customers must
Luigi was not happy when Dorian came back and the words were uttered immediately he stepped foot into the pizza shop."You're fired."The policemen came for him after that. They were already lurking in the background and the moment Luigi fired him, the system rang in Dorian's mind too.A bad feeling crept up the side of Dorian's spine and he waited for the system to tell him his time was up. He'd die now and it would all be because he lost his girlfriend to a richer guy and lost his temper too. Now he would die because he lost his job. The system did nothing like that. It was dead silent as he was roughly shoved and manhandled into a car by goons. It was silent when he was driven not to the police station but to an abandoned building and beaten almost half to death.Dorian didn't shed any tears as he endured the beating and brutalizations. The thugs in suits left him for dead on the floor of the building and Dorian drew in a deep breath. The dust from the hard rough floor went straig
The bath he had when he got home didn't do anything to cool the boiling in Dorian's blood. The cheap dinner of ramen and boiled eggs he had didn't help either. After two hours spent doing his workout routine, Dorian took another shower, dressed himself up and stepped out of his apartment with a baseball cap on his head. His messy dark curls peeked out from under the cap but as long as it stayed on his head, he didn't care about that. The system's voice rang in Dorian's mind again and it didn't sound concerned even though the questions it was asking sounded that way.~Don't you think you're being hasty about this, Host? You should be catching some rest. You were beaten up very badly a few hours ago y'know. ~Dorian nodded and descended the stairs of the one storey building that was his place of residence."I know. But that doesn't mean I have to let it affect me. I'm okay now. I'm ready to look for another job."~It's nighttime, Dorian.~Dorian chortled and stuck his hands into his po
