Sage quickly stood up from the ragged mattress and approached Keith by the window. Staring into the distance, she saw twelve figures approaching the buildings.
It was the rest of the family.
Keith and Sage smiled.
"After staying home alone for three months, my family is finally back," Sage said in delight.
Keith looked at her. He frowned slightly and said:
"After staying home alone for two years, my family came to visit."
Sage glanced at Keith, a look of pity suddenly appeared on her face as she stared at him.
Keith had lived alone in the fort for two years since his immediate senior brother, Greg left the fort to work in the ranches. Max left six years ago and his father was a head servant to a Gold-rank Awakened even before he was born.
Though being a Commoner never deprived an individual from getting married or doing things that benefits them... They only have to serve the Blue Planet anytime they are called.
Keith couldn't recall when last he set his eyes on his father, but he was sure that it was over a decade. Since their mother had left them when she came to notice the curse on the Rotunda Clan, Keith had lived his life without a mother.
Since his mother left them, his father was the one to perform the duty of his mother. Keith was about three years old then and didn't know that a mother could existed. His mother also took his sister with her, promising to extract the curse from her soul. Keith had always seen it as something impossible, but he still hoped to set his eyes on his sister someday. As an Awakened.
When his father returned to duty, his brothers were the ones to watch over him. All these while, Keith was growing to live the life of a Commoner... But wasn't told until he turned sixteen. The day when his immediate senior brother, Greg, was about to begin his duty as a Commoner.
Since then, life has been like hell on earth for him.
For Sage, she had been a servant for a Silver-rank Awakened since the previous year when she turned eighteen. Luckily, her master got killed by a Tier-1 monster in Southern Territory and she was privileged to stay home until the next Postings.
Every year, people who couldn't Awaken their talent are posted to different places for the purpose of labor. Some are posted to the farming fields, some to the ranches, some to cities for infrastructural labor, and some as servants to an Awakened.
Now, Keith was sure that the death of the Supreme Warlord had made the Lords order every Commoner to return to their homes.
War was coming.
Sage hurried to welcome her family and greeted the others after. Keith stood by the window, hesitating to move an inch. After some time, noticing that his elder brother, Max was staring at him from afar, Keith decided to approach them. Though with a serious countenance.
On getting there, his father suddenly approached him and grabbed his waist for a hug. Keith smiled. He missed his father... Actually, he missed all of them and was happy to see them again.
"Keith, you have grown so big... Look at you," his father acknowledged with a smile, surprised.
Keith only nodded with a smile as a huge arm landed across his shoulder from behind. It was Max.
Max works as a laborer in Western Territory. As of now, he is a head worker in the Metallic Walls project. To Keith, he was much like an Awakened because he wasn't suffering from labor at all. His appearance could tell.
"Hey Keith, how are you doing... You are a big dude now. Look, your once tiny and weak fist has become sturdy. You don't look stupid anymore, or are you?" Max teased with a smile, making Keith furious.
Keith nodded negatively with a bitter smile and replied.
"Nah, I'm not."
Just as he said those words, Greg entered into the conversation.
"He was never silly big bro, and would never be," Greg said and looked at Keith. "How are you doing Keith, you must have missed me a lot, don't you?"
"Actually, I missed you a lot bro and I'm happy you are back," Keith complimented and sighed. "So, why are you guys back, did the Supreme Lord's demise affect the duties of Commoners?"
"I think so, son. From my perspective, I think the Specters is about to wage war against us," Keith's father, Ryder, said with a serious expression.
"The Lords had suspended the Metallic Walls project too, and that gave me the privilege to return home. For this to be done, there might have been something wrong. The Origin Gemstone... "
"That's the cause, the Specters are so desperate to get the Origin Gemstone. And if they succeed, Humanity would be wiped out forever," Ryder interrupted.
"We know that we can't defeat them in a fight. Without the Supreme Warlord, our forces are nothing to compare to their armies," Max said with a solemn look, his gaze alone made his point certain.
But to Ryder and Keith, what he said was a huge falsehood.
"One tree cannot make a forest son, the Supreme Warlord might be incredibly powerful in all ways, but trust me, there are other Awakeneds who could do the same thing as he does, or more. The Supreme Warlord cannot win the war on his own if the help of other Awakeneds is not applied," Ryder commented, glancing at Max.
"I don't think there is someone who can be like the Supreme Warlord. There can't be. The Supreme Warlord was so tremendous and unpredictable. Besides, no one has been able to reach a 10-star skill grade so there is no way we can have a Supreme Warlord anymore," Sage's father, Pete, commented as he returned to that spot.
The others had entered their various buildings leaving only Keith's family and Sage's father behind.
"I disagree with you Pete... There was something strange about the Supreme Warlord's death which had left the residents of Premier Territory stunned," Keith's father said again. This time, he was more serious.
He continued:
"He said some words before giving out but those words weren't relatable. I suspect he has passed his powers to someone."
Keith noticed the flow of the conversation, he now knew what was really happening, but was still wanting to know the cause of the Supreme Warlord's death.
"If that's the case, then that person should just be lucky," Greg said.
"Yeah. Given a bag of diamonds without payment," Pete said with a slight smile.
Upon conversing outside the fort homes, Sage's father suddenly brought up another case, wiping off the case of the Supreme Warlord's death. But before he spoke, the system appeared in Keith's retina.

[Deadly warning: Keep the Immortal Mage System as a secret. Don't expose].

Keith shrugged. He maintained his stance and watched Sage's father speak.
"So Keith... How did your Talent Awakening go... Were you able to awaken your talent?"
"... "
Just as Keith attempted to reply, a female voice sounded from behind.
"He is Talentless... He couldn't awaken his Talent."
It was Sage.
Everyone standing at that spot stood motionless as Sage said those words. However, the only person who seemed not to be surprised was Keith's father. Instead of producing an outrageous and disappointed grimace, Ryder smiled and placed his right hand upon Keith's left shoulder. "You don't have to be down on yourself boy... Instead, blame the heavens for cursing our innocent soul," Keith's father said with a comforting smile and turned to Max. "We aren't to be blamed for the misery we are facing, instead, we should be proud of ourselves for not staying down after a fall."All eyes were fixed on Ryder as he spoke wholeheartedly, though sad. "Being a Commoner is never and would not be a death sentence. We would work with our might and serve the Blue Planet with all we got, even if it wasn't recognized," Ryder returned his gaze to Keith, "so Keith, don't look down on yourself. Instead, use that diligent influence of yours to serve the human race."Keith hesitated a bit and nodded."Keith,
The system ignored Keith's questions and dimmed off. Keith's eyes widened in surprise. "This jerk... How come you know about women?"Keith was astonished at that moment. However, he knew that servants could be useful for sexual activities, but the truth was that Keith hated those things. Really. He caressed his forehead to calm his brain from popping out, placing the other hand on his waist. After standing for a while, he turned and joined his relatives at the general dining. Just as he walked in, his father slammed in a new topic to discuss. No, it wasn't new, it was the Supreme Warlord's death issue. Truth be told, Keith wanted this kind of conversation. "Now as I speak, the Lords are looking for a new Head Warlord. But it seems that no one could match his power, not even a half," Ryder notified. "Of course, no one will. No one can match the power of a Demigod," Max said. "Demigod?""Demigod?""What do you mean Max?" Ryder questioned. "It's obvious that he was a Demigod. De
"Gosh! This system is crazy," Keith's complained.Somehow, Keith's happiness suddenly died off. The Immortal Mage System had ordered him to complete his current mission within two days, however, that only wiped out the giggles off his cheeks. Of course, killing ten Tier-0 monsters wasn't much of a deadly thing to do, but, the other mission was what quenched his urge to complete the mission.Keith was not in the power to order a servant of his choice... It was the duty of the territory's posting officials. So, if it turns out that his servant would be a boy or an old woman... Uh! That would be total shit.Though Keith didn't pray for such. With a sad mood and a confused countenance, Keith lay on his mattress. Jerks like him sleep not quite long after setting their backs on a mattress, so he slept off in a matter of seconds.******In a dark building clogged with the dreadful and cruel aura of some phantom-like creature, one of them, a stronger figure with the same physique sat on a
Before Keith could know it, Jake was already creating two fireballs from his palms. The others watched with confidence, believing that Jake was going to beat Keith to stupor. However, Keith only studied his moves and tried to create his own skills. String of thunder! There was no doubt that fireballs are 1-star skill so Keith was relieved because his current skill was the same as that of Jake. Though he didn't guarantee his win, he knew that he had an equal chance of winning just like Jake. Jake charged towards Keith with the whooshing fireballs on his palms. His speed was utterly incredible, though, it never stopped Keith from dodging the attack. Just as Keith dodged, he scowled and blinked his eyes. ——————————[Do you want to activate your skill: String of thunder?]. ——————————"Yes," Keith requested. ——————————[String of thunder activated]. ——————————Suddenly, lightning with a blue hue, like the structure of a tiny string, emerged from Keith's palm. Keith ignored the words of the system, however, he displayed his happiness in attaining his first Core Fragment inside of him. Yet, at the other phase of his mind were waves of shock and disappointment. The curious look on Sage's face gave him a clear concept that she had noticed something. After all, the path through this spot was straight and she could possibly see the fighting scene from afar. Keith was dazed. "He is an Awakened! He can create thunder!" Jake shouted with fear and ran away, leaving his friends behind. Keith attempted to chase after him, but Sage's stunning words made him halt his movement. "Why do you lie to me? You are able to awaken your talent but you kept it a secret, why?" Keith faced the other direction which Jake had taken, shocked and dumbfounded. He wanted this to be a secret until the Postings, but now that it had been licked, he wouldn't be able to cover it up. After all, he caused it. 'I should have fought a normal fight.'Keith hesitated'But he
"Well, I talk too much... I don't think I can adapt," Keith remarked and smiled. The Immortal Mage System was quite nosy in its own way and Keith could attest to it. At a point, he wondered if this was what the Supreme Warlord had encountered. But actually, he knew that the Supreme Warlord would have experienced even more. Literally, he already knew that there were more experiences to come. Keith blinked his eyes the moment he approached the entrance of the Menace Forest. Swiftly, the system obeyed.——————————[Do you want to activate weapon: Longsword?].——————————"Hell yes," Keith replied. ——————————[Lv1 Longsword activated?]. ——————————The longsword appeared on Keith's hand suddenly, making Keith smile in relief. Keith wondered why the system brought out the weapon section without his appeal. It had happened most times like this and Keith was only getting curious. Was it that the system knew his mind? Keith thought of turning back and running for his precious life, but he knew that that wasn't the right action to take at the moment. He knew that he wouldn't make many steps before being caught by the Critter. As Keith stared at the monster, his eyes widened in fear as it made more steps forward. Right now, the Critter was totally delighted to have found breakfast. The Critter has three heads attached with each having two eyes. One faced Keith directly, the other to the left, and the third facing the right side. Its long fangs and curvy sharp claws were enough to reveal that Keith was on a thin line between life and death. It possessed a dark wood-like body, short hands, and shanks of about a foot tall. Still glancing at the Critter, the Immortal Mage System popped up. ——————————[Name: Critter].[Race: Monster]. [Tier: 1].[Brutality: D]. Keith staggered out of the Phantom Falls with his left hand placed on his chest. He was happy to have slain the fuckin Critter, but, the pain he felt didn't enrich his happiness. "Level 2 longsword deactivate," Keith ordered. Swiftly, the longsword he held in his right hand disappeared into thin air. 'I think it's time I purchase a spear. Killing monsters won't be that hard anymore...'Keith thought as he descended the hill of the Phantom Falls. At this moment, Keith felt weak... Sure, if even a Gold-rank Awakened was in his shoes, they would have felt exactly the same way he was feeling right now. Truthfully, his chest hurts so badly. His ass aches. 'There is no way I can kill five Tier-0 monsters today. I am gonna just die and face the impacts of foolishness in the heavens.' Keith thought as he leaped against a fallen tree by the forest pathway. However, the Immortal Mage System remembered him of something... ——————————[Host, do you want to purchase some healing portions fo
